Monday Courthouse Run/Walk - 40 Min
Monday Courthouse Run/Walk - 40 Min
On Monday, we'll meet in front of 2100 Clarendon Blvd around 6:50pm and head out for a nice hilly run on the Custis Trail at 7pm. We usually head out for a drink after the run. So if you're planning to stay after for drinks, bring your ID/etc. Notes: If you're not familiar with the area, please review the routes. If it's cold, take cover inside the foyer area of 2100 Clarendon Blvd. Photos taken during the event may end up on Instagram, Meetup, Strava and similar platform. Routes: We'll alternate between the following routes. Both are hilly. We run 20 minutes out and then turn around and run 20 minutes back to Courthouse. Everyone runs at his/her own pace, so the distance will depend on your speed. 1. Courthouse to Georgetown Waterfront (one big hill) ([https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/6264227038/](https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/6264227038/)) Veitch St. to the Custis Trail; downhill to Key Bridge; over to the Georgetown Waterfront 2. Courthouse to Custis Trail West (rolling hills) ([https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/6600124130](https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/6600124130)) Veitch St. to the Custis Trail; West toward Glebe Rd. Pace: All paces are welcome! We'll be doing an out and back route, so everyone will just turn around at the halfway time marker. That way we should all start and end at the same time. Free Parking at Courthouse Plaza: The underground garage is on Clarendon Blvd btwn Wayne and Veitch Sts. (near Strayer/CVS and the AMC Theater). If the first 2 levels on the left are full, you can park on the lower levels to the right. Street and Surface Parking lots should be free in the area as well. Metro: Orange or Silver line to Courthouse Station.

Monday Moves-- Capital Crescent Trail
Monday Moves-- Capital Crescent Trail
DCC's "Monday Moves" on the Capital Crescent Trail and through Rock Creek Park Join DCC and Conte’s Bike Shop (Navy Yard) for a fun ~33.5 mile and ~1,200 ft elevation ride to the: Audi Field, Titanic Memorial, Wharf, Hains Point, along the Capital Crescent Trail, Bethesda, through Rock Creek Park, WW II Memorial, The Mall, and U.S. Capitol. This ride will be geared towards our newer riders (with a chill pace and no one left behind), but all are welcomed. This ride will be on the streets, trails and sidewalks. We will go over things to help riders become more comfortable with riding in groups. We will meet at Conte’s Navy Yard Bike Shop at 10 am and depart at 10:15. All riders should bring their own hydration and nutrition, as well as a spare inner tube. *** Please, no music that can be heard by other riders or ear headphones that impede your hearing. Parking is limited at the Navy Yard, so for those driving, an option is to park at Anacostia Park (aquatic center) and take 11th street bridge to M Street, then a left on 4th. ****all riders ride at their own risk**** If there is a chance of inclement weather expected on Monday, a cancelation notice will be posted by 9:00 pm on Sunday; otherwise, the ride will take place. Below is a link to the ride: (~33 miles and ~1065 ft of elevation) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41441265

Soccer Zero

Be there or get chubby. You decide. https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/b/7/2/600_364811122.jpeg RSVPs are required. The reason is that it should increase your own enjoyment. You see, the ideal number of players for a pickup soccer game is perhaps 6x6 - 8x8; some players won't attend if they think the turnout will be low, and others will just assume the game will be cancelled even though we always play. (As a practical matter, smaller games are less fun since the comics won't have the audience they need, but, they do have two hidden benefits: shorter, more intense games/workouts and fewer face kicks/yellow cards. So we play no matter how small or large.) So non-RSVPers are a little short sighted, since they don't seem to want to maximize their own enjoyment in the long run. Rational and sane players who have a good chance of attending RSVP a week early both here and at https://meetup.com/dcsoccer , the parent soccer group.
Comparative Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays Tasting: Germany and Burgundy
Comparative Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays Tasting: Germany and Burgundy
Please plan to join the German Wine Society on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 7:00 pm for a comparative presentation on Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in Germany and the Burgundy region of France, and tasting of twelve wines to illustrate the varieties of wine made from these grapes in these countries, by our own Annette Schiller. Registrations for this event are due by Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and the price is $55 for GWS members, $62 for non-members. Please be aware that, due to limited supply of the wines and size of the venue, we have a maximum cap of 40 for attendance at this event. Reserve early to avoid disappointment! What comes to your mind when you hear: β€œChardonnay” or β€œPinot Noir”? Burgundy, of course! That is rightly so. Burgundy is one of the world’s most revered wine regions and unique in focusing on two grape varieties: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. For more than 1000 years Burgundy vintners have understood that different soils and climates give different wines. They have honed their skills to produce wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that reflect the place they are coming from. When you hear: β€œGermany” – you think Riesling. Riesling also is a terroir expressive grape variety and the Germans know about producing a wine that reflects its place. But Germany is not a mono-varietal wine region like Burgundy. There are many more grape varieties growing successfully here. For more than 1000 years Pinot Noir has been grown in Germany, where it is called β€œSpΓ€tburgunder,” directly translating as β€œlate Burgundy.” Pinot Noir is now the most widely planted red grape in Germany, accounting for 11.8% of all plantings. Chardonnay, in contrast, has only officially been allowed since 1991, though there were earlier trial plantings, and is still only about 2.2% of total cultivation, while Riesling has remained the flagship grape. Climate change presents new opportunities for German vintners. There is an evolution beyond traditional wine styles and grape varieties. At the same time, Burgundy’s prices have soared and wine lovers often get priced out of their favorite wine. Germany offers a genuine alternative. At this tasting we will show you Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from both wine regions side by side. We start with a comparison of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Germany and Burgundy on the regional level. The next flight will be a step-up quality-wise: a comparison on the village level. As a highlight we have a comparison of 1er Cru Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Burgundy and Erste Lage (Germany’s designation of 1er Cru) Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Germany. We will taste 12 wines with many in the upper price bracket. Join us for this one-of-a-kind opportunity to have wines from top Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers from two different but also in some aspects similar regions. It will be fun to discuss the wines during the tasting and it will be very interesting to hear the verdict of the audience on the favorites. The planned wine list is depicted below: Part 1: PINOT NOIR / SPΓ„TBURGUNDER FLIGHT A: REGIONAL LEVEL Germany: 2023 Weingut von Winning, Pinot Noir Royal, Pfalz Burgundy: 2022 Albert Bichot, Bourgogne FLIGHT B: VILLAGE LEVEL Germany: 2018 Weingut Bercher, Burkheimer, Baden Burgundy: 2022 Domaine Raquillet, Mercurey FLIGHT C: 1er CRU / ERSTE LAGE LEVEL Germany: 2022 KallstΓ€dter Steinacker, Weingut Rings, Pfalz Burgundy: 2022 Volnay Santenots, Domaine Thierry Matrot Part 2: CHARDONNAY FLIGHT A: REGIONAL LEVEL 2021 Weingut KΓΌhling-Gillot, RΓ©serve, Rheinhessen 2022 Maison Vincent Girardin, CuvΓ©e St.-Vincent, Bourgogne FLIGHT B: VILLAGE LEVEL Germany: 2024 Weingut JΓΌlg, Schweigen, Pfalz Burgundy: 2023 Domaine Ferret, Pouilly-FuissΓ© FLIGHT C: 1er CRU / ERSTE LAGE LEVEL Germany: 2023 BΓΆnningheimer Sonnenberg, Weingut Dautel, WΓΌrttemberg Burgundy: 2023 Beaune – GrΓ¨ves, Le Clos Blanc Louis Jadot A tasty buffet of cheeses, bread, crackers, charcuterie, grapes and veggies will be provided to accompany the wines. Our tasting will begin at 7 p.m on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. to admit guests. While there is not off-street parking at this location, on-street parking is available (bear in mind DC parking restrictions and meters), and there is easy access to Metro, at the Van Ness Red Line station. You can register and pay for this event only by following the instructions on our chapter website, https://germanwinesocietydc.org. Simply confirming attendance on meetup is NOT sufficient for a reservation. You will need to create a GWS account for the website if you do not already have one. You can also become a member or renew, if your membership is not current, together with your registration for this event by including an annual $35 dues payment (for an individual or a couple), through PayPal, or by mail using a check, in the same manner as registering for the event. If you have been a member of the GWS Capital Chapter in the past but are not sure of your current membership status, please email the Secretary at the above e-mail to confirm your status. We do request that if you are experiencing symptoms of covid-19, flu or other contagious illness, or have tested positive for such an illness, you stay home and recover, and avoid putting other guests at risk. Refunds can be provided in these circumstances if you notify us before the day of the event, to allow us time to find another guest to take your place. Otherwise, refunds can only be made if you notify us before the deadline for registration. All GWS members and guests are reminded that alcohol consumption can lead to intoxication. Members and guests should use public transportation to events, rely on a designated driver, or taste the wines rather than finish them. If you have questions about this event, you may contact the event organizer and presenter, Annette Schiller, at aschiller@ombiasypr.com , or by phone at 703-459-7513. Socrates CafΓ© Rockville Meetup
Socrates CafΓ© Rockville Meetup
Socrates CafΓ© meets on the first Saturday of each month. Though this may be considered a "philosophical" group, there are no rules as to what is discussed. Usually, the topics revolve around social concerns, morality, and the first principles of things. Prior to each meeting we vote online for the questions we will discuss. That way, we will have enough time to ruminate on them and have more in-depth conversations. If you RSVP to a meeting, you may post your question in the event comments section below. I'll send out a survey for voting a few days prior to the meetup. We discuss two questions each night. So you will get to cast two votes in the survey. When we meet, we break into smaller groups of five to seven to discuss the top two vote-getters. Each group discusses one question for around 45-50 minutes, and we then take a short break. After reconvening, each group moves on to its second question. Hope to see you there! -Brian

In-Person Psychedelic Peer Support Integration Circle
In-Person Psychedelic Peer Support Integration Circle
**Please join the Montgomery County Psychedelic Society for our monthly in-person psychedelic peer support.** This group is for those who have already had experiences with psychedelics and are looking to explore, understand, and learn from those experiences in a safe, welcoming space. Psychedelic integration is a way of turning the insights and experiences we have when we use psychedelics into lasting behavior and lifestyle changes. It’s a process of becoming whole, moving from altered states to altered traits. A psychedelic peer support meeting is a place where people take turns listening to and sharing their experiences, thoughts, and feelings relating to psychedelic integration. **Cost** Free **Location** * We meet in a private home in Bethesda, MD. * Street parking available * The primary bus routes servicing the intersection of Greentree Rd & Bradmoor Dr in Bethesda, MD, are the Montgomery County Ride On Route 30 (Bethesda Metro ↔ Medical Center Metro) and Ride On Route 47 (\~5–7 min walk) **This group may be right for you if you:** * Have past experience using psychedelics * Want to talk through your psychedelic experiences openly with supportive people * Seek additional strategies for continuing your integration process * Wish to support others in their personal growth within an inclusive and judgment-free space **This group may NOT be right for you if you:** * Hope that attending might replace your need for professional treatment of any mental health problems you might have * Are looking for group psychotherapy, medical care, or psychiatric treatment or advice * Had a challenging experience with psychedelics that continues to cause you distress * Want to find out where to access illegal substances or guides or practitioners working β€œunderground.” **How it Works** Here are a few things to know about how our peer psychedelic integration group works: * Tea, water, and snacks will be provided * Please plan to attend the entire event. * Late arrivals and early departures disrupt the safety of our space. Doors will close shortly after 7 pm * There is a 15-person limit for this event so everyone has a chance to speak and be heard. * You must register via our MeetUp page. **Our Expectations of all Participants** To help keep our time together focused, meaningful, and safe for everyone, we ask that you abide by these expectations: * We treat everyone in our circle with courtesy, compassion, and respect, regardless of age, ability, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. * We do not encourage or condone any illegal activities, the purchase, sale, transfer, or use of any illegal substances, or partaking in any unlawful activities related to illegal substances. For those who choose to partake, we encourage safety and awareness from a harm-reduction perspective. * We do not use illegal substances during our meetings. * Please do not use the group for references to ceremonies or where/how to find illegal substances, online and/or in person. * Do not bring, buy, sell, transfer, or arrive under the influence of any illegal substances, or swap information on how to acquire them through the group, online, and/or in person. * Anyone who disregards these basic requests will be asked to leave the group and not be permitted to return. Thank you for respecting the safety of the space we are co-creating. **Finally** * *We ask that you not show up without registering.* * Attending these meetings does not create a treatment relationship. Any attendees requiring medical or psychiatric treatment will be offered referrals to professional care. * If you have accessibility concerns, please contact the facilitator via a Meetup message. * If you wish to speak to somebody about difficult psychedelic experiences and are unsure where to turn, immediate and free peer support is available from the psychedelic helpline [Fireside Project](https://firesideproject.org/).

In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them. Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance". Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
