BOXING DAY HIKE - Hainault forest circular walk -approx 15 miles
BOXING DAY HIKE - Hainault forest circular walk -approx 15 miles
Debden to Hainault Forest Circular Hike (Approx. 15 miles) Join us for a rewarding circular hike exploring one of London’s largest and most atmospheric ancient woodlands. Starting and finishing at Debden Underground Station, this approximately 15-mile walk combines forest trails, open countryside, and quiet suburban edges, offering a real “escape from the city” feel while staying firmly within Greater London. From Debden we head east into Hainault Forest Country Park, following a network of woodland paths beneath ancient oaks and hornbeams. The route takes in wide forest rides, ponds, and grassy clearings, with seasonal highlights ranging from spring wildflowers to autumn colour and winter birdsong. We’ll pause along the way for short breaks and a longer lunch stop, making the most of scenic spots within the forest. The walk is mostly flat to gently undulating, with a mix of woodland tracks, fields, and some paved sections. While there are no major hills, the distance makes this a moderate to challenging hike, suitable for regular walkers with a good level of fitness. Please bring suitable footwear, water, lunch, and weather-appropriate clothing. This is a great opportunity to enjoy nature, stretch the legs, and discover a beautiful green corridor on London’s doorstep. Meet at Debden underground station. Use contactless payment, cost will vary depending on your starting location. As the group size is limited, please only rsvp if you will definitely attend. Walk start: 09:45 from Debden underground station. Estimated walk ends 16:00 at Debden underground station. Pub stop for lunch. Bring a packed lunch. *How to join?* - The walk is entirely free of charge; - You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; - Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); - Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. See our quick safety tips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ - Please answer the RSVP question; Guests with missing or incorrect answers will be removed from the list! *What to bring* - Plenty of water, 1-2 litres recommended - Enough snacks and packed lunch to keep you energized along the walk - Extra snacks and an extra packed lunch just in case - Rainproof (ideally waterproof) clothing, sturdy shoes/boots you don't mind getting muddy - Spare socks - Walking poles and/or an umbrella :-) - Yourself... - ...and your camera! - Cash for train ticket - Cash for pub at the end of the walk? Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave. Any questions, feel free to ask below or send a private message!

The Hands that Held Our Chalice: Ancestry, Responsibility, and the Light We Keep
**Roberta Wedge** This service will explore how our Arts & Crafts period chalice, once hidden and then rediscovered, connects our congregation to ancestry, beauty, and shared faith. It will trace the story of Judaism in England—from exile to renewal—reflecting on flowing water, light, and responsibility. We inherit not possession but covenant: to honour memory, protect neighbours, and keep the flame alive. *No Kids Club programming until 11th January 2026 due to winter break; all are welcome in the chapel!* Attend either online or in person at the Newington Green Meeting House, 39a Newington Green, London, N16 9PR (fully accessible). Wild Ones: Annual Native Seed Swap
Wild Ones: Annual Native Seed Swap January 10, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am Join Wild Ones Columbus for their annual native seeds swap. If you have native seeds to share, please label them with the Latin name and common name. The seeds don’t need to be removed from the seed head if you aren’t sure how to do it, but remove as much stem as possible. Bringing seeds is not required. Bring bags or envelopes to store seeds. Inniswood Metro Gardens 940 S. Hempstead Rd. Westerville, OH 43081 Phone (614)895-6216 This event will be held in the Greenhouse/Multipurpose Building located near the east end of the parking lot. Click here to see the Inniswood map. If you have native seeds to share, label each species with this information: * Botanical Name * Common Name Species we will accept: * Species native to our ecoregion (8.2.4) - Best * Species native to Ohio and surrounding states - Good * Straight species only - no cultivars. The seeds don’t need to be removed from the seed head if you aren’t sure how to do it, but don’t leave much stem on the seed heads. Please email the list of species to Mary May so we can prepare information for attendees. You can bring the seeds on the day of the swap, or we can arrange to have them picked up beforehand - just let her know in the email. If you don’t have any seeds to bring, no worries. If you are new to native plants or didn't have time to collect seeds, there are ALWAYS plenty from those that do bring them! We love to see "newbies" at our seed exchange! Also, remember to bring something to put seeds in such as envelopes, paper bags or containers.
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for January is "Chemistry" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 7:00 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us. COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant. Did you know that there are atheists everywhere?!?! You may not know it, but we are! We're in your schools, diners, police force, military, government, and some are even still in your churches! So come and join us and meet other local atheists, along with agnostics, heathens, humanists, skeptics, and anyone else who's 'hell bound'! Vision: a Central Ohio that accepts atheism as a viable alternative in all areas of public and private life. Mission: grow, support, and provide community for atheists in Central Ohio. Social meetings held most Tuesdays at a local pub/restaurant at 7:00 PM (and often into the wee hours). Attendees call themselves agnostics, skeptics, humanists, non-theists, deists or even theists. All attendees are welcome but should support our vision. Atheists of Columbus (AoC) is part of Omnipresent Atheists (OA). AoC members are invited to join this OA meetup and/or OA Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/omnipresentatheists/ ) but are free to continue conversations on the AoC Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/columbusatheists/ ). It was a member of Columbus CoR and held weekly meetings, mostly on Fridays, for several years but then operated as an online only group for some time. In November 2018, Omnipresent Atheists (OA), a group that routinely meets on Tuesdays, invited AoC to merge. Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (ColumbusCoR.org). Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason ( http://www.ColumbusCoR.org ). Omnipresent Atheists endorses the mission of the Secular Coalition for America ( http://secular.org ). This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade.
