The House of Self - Free Taster Session
The House of Self - Free Taster Session
The House of Self is an experiential personal development programme designed to support adults in building self-worth, confidence, assertiveness, and healthy boundaries. This **free live taster session** offers a gentle introduction to the House of Self approach, the structure of the programme, and the kind of space I hold. It is: * grounded and practical * reflective but not overwhelming * supportive without being therapeutic This session is **not therapy** and does not involve analysing the past in depth. Instead, it focuses on strengthening your sense of self in the present and giving you tools you can begin using straight away. If you feel you’ve lost your sense of self, struggle to assert your needs, or want to rebuild your confidence and boundaries in a safe, respectful environment, you are very welcome to join us. There is no pressure to share, no expectation to “fix” anything, and no obligation to continue beyond this session. Simply come as you are. Please register your place using the link below. ⬇️ https://forms.gle/HfnvYQWf9wKjSMTb8 I look forward to meeting you. Sarah 💜

FURNITURE RESTORATION – EVENINGS – BRING A PROJECT
FURNITURE RESTORATION – EVENINGS – BRING A PROJECT
**Bookable via our website:** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/furniture-restoration-evenings-bring-a-project-50/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/furniture-restoration-evenings-bring-a-project-50/) **⋆⋆⋆** A wonderful entry into the enchanting world of restoration. This is a project based course and we encourage learners to bring a small wood item to the first class. You can bring a 60s book-rack, a small occasional table, a simple chair or a shabby wood box. These objects can be wobbly, scratched or dented, and maybe a few bits missing- they can date from 19th to mid 20th century. Work on your own piece while learning the skills you need along the way. We will show you how to fix the wobbles and make joint repairs and how to repair lost or flaky veneers. You will also have an introduction to wood finishes from modern stains, varnishes and waxes to classic French polishing. This is a great way to get stuck into the practice of restoration. We will guide you through the process of assessing a potential project, learning about its construction and how to bring a sad relic back to shining glory. Please email [info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk](mailto:info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk) if you have a photo of a project you would like to discuss. Some materials will not be kept in stock. Approved projects can be stored at the centre. We cannot offer additional time to work on your project outside of workshop times.

UPHOLSTERY – BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR – WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
UPHOLSTERY – BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR – WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-wednesday-eve-18/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-wednesday-eve-18/) **⋆⋆⋆** KEY PROJECT: RE-UPHOLSTERING YOUR OWN CHAIR. Suitable for beginners and fun for advanced learners. This workshop is led by Krasmira Nikolova, an experienced upholsterer. We provide the use of all upholstery tools and equipment including compressed air staple guns. Basic upholstery materials that you require for your project will be moderately charged on a pay-as-you-use basis and will be dependent on each chair’s requirements. We can advise you on the purchase of your top fabric and we have a lovely library of fabric samples to help make up your mind. The Goodlife Centre sells all the basic tools and materials for use on projects worked on at home. This is a fantastic chance to up-cycle and personalise a family piece you have at home or a junk shop find and a great way to immerse yourself into the wonderful world of upholstery. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic knowledge but little experience who wish to extend their expertise. **Choosing a suitable chair** If you are a newcomer to upholstery, there are a couple of pointers to help you choose a chair to work on. Choose something that has one or two flat planes – a seat and a back – as curves and arms are more complex and take longer to achieve. The chair on the right was completed in about 12 weeks. If you are a complete beginner, you could bring something more simple such as an upholstered footstool. More experienced upholsters can bring more complex pieces. Your chair can be traditionally built or modern, but be aware that some modern pieces have been constructed using machinery and are difficult to recreate by hand. [Click here for a detailed PDF of suitable chairs.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2r8UvbQtaH5RTVKUjlBdkhDX3c/view?usp=sharing) **Please email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk with a photo of your chair prior to the course so we can answer any suitability questions and advise if your chair is suitable**. We have very limited storage at the centre, so we can only store smaller pieces during the course. Please make sure the total dimensions are less than 1000mm high by 750mm wide, with a depth of 750mm. The use of tools and machinery is included. All materials will be charged at nominal rates. Some materials will not be kept in stock but can be ordered. Approved projects can be stored at the centre. We cannot offer additional time to work on your project outside of workshop times.
High Yield Property Investments
High Yield Property Investments
### **Private Investors Briefing** ### **High-Yield Property Investments** **London** **SIMICO PLC** is hosting a series of private investor briefings in London for individuals who are interested in high-yield property investments. These meetings are designed for both, first-time investors who want a clear explanation and experienced investors who value structured opportunities and direct access to decision-makers. ### What we’ll cover · How the investment structure works: redeemable shares (a fixed term investment, typically 2 to 5 years) · How capital is intended to be protected through property security, including properties acquired for the strategy and additional landed property already owned by the company · The practical process: timelines, documentation, and what due diligence looks like · Frequently asked questions — with time for direct Q&A ### Important points upfront * This is not a "perpetual" investment. It is structured for a specific term (2–5 years) with a guaranteed dividend. * The company has insurance against unforeseen events, and the acquired properties are also insured. ### Meeting The meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 4rth at 12:00 PM at the Chambers of Commerce, 33 Queen Street Place, City of London, EC4R 1QS. Note: To attend the meeting, please call 0208 264 6684 upon arrival. If you would like to grab a "coffee on us" before the meeting, please join us at 11:30. THE CONUNDRUM OF KENSINGTON
THE CONUNDRUM OF KENSINGTON
The allure is intoxicating, almost irresistible. A succession of exquisitely beautiful townscapes, infinitely variable and constantly changing, yet somehow all coherent parts of a magnificent production, like a Mozart concerto. Every view seems curated, polished and prepared. There’s no litter, no chewing gum, and no security guards! Yet this is traditional ‘public space’\* This is the central area of Kensington\*\*, smallest yet most densely populated London borough, home to Grenfell Tower, and Kensington Palace. It is simply great: no one would not want to live here. I promise you, by the time we reach ‘The Blackbird’ you will be ready to give up your Vow of Poverty, and move heaven and earth, to move here! In fact, when our New Town Master Planners aspire to ‘urbanity’, in their new developments, Central Kensington might well be what they have in mind. Part of the explanation is, of course, ‘money’. Oodles of it. Capitalism spends money to make money, and there’s ‘investment’ here: in every project, every house, every shop. It seems to have increased local authority spending too: York stone footways, in perfect condition, and most roadways recently resurfaced. ‘The Conundrum’ is, that this very high quality public realm seems to be unachievable elsewhere. How has this come about? Do the best quality areas become unaffordable? Or does wealth lead to good quality? It’s hard to believe, but in Kensington’s centre, from the High Street to Cromwell Road, and from Warwick Road to Queen’s Gate, there are, today, no socially rented homes *at all*, according to the official maps. Today the borough has the lowest proportion of social housing in Inner London (22%), and some of its most expensive houses. Across the whole borough, there are about 7K council-owned flats, plus the philanthropic providers' 12K more. But they are mostly in big estates in the southwest corner or far north: World’s End, Lancaster West and Dalgarno Gardens. It was not always so. From 1726 there was a workhouse. In the 1860’s terraces were built in Blithfield\*\*\* Street for ‘the working classes’ made homeless by District Railway project, and some ‘workers’ cottages’ in Pembroke Place became ‘a notorious slum’, Wait ‘til you see them now. And at the very edge of our area, in Warwick Road, Arup Associates more recently built 115 flats for the council: more than half are now ‘Right-to-Buy’ leaseholds. To address ‘The Conundrum’, we’re going to meet at High Street Kensington Station, and walk through these, the oldest and most disorganised streets of the borough, from the ‘Old Court Suburb’\*\*\*\* nearest to Kensington Palace, heading south and west, following approximately the chronological path of the area’s development, from the earliest 2-storey terraces, to Victorian semi-detached villas, towering 7-storey stuccoed Italianate blocks, and late-Victorian and Edwardian mansion flats. Now almost exclusively housing, the western parts of the area also once exhibited commercial, light industrial, and educational and healthcare activity, and along the way we’ll see the impact on the area of the the arrival of the District Railway in the 1870’s, the Cromwell Road extension just before WW2, and the West London Air Terminal in 1957. Our walk leads directly to ‘The Blackbird‘ PH, opposite Earl’s Court Station, where our reserved table is being prepared. Hope you can come! Andy \*could it be that residents get straight into their cars, and don’t walk along the streets dropping litter and gum? \*\*= the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, created in 1965 from a merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Kensington, and its tiny neighbour, Chelsea. \*\*\*sic \*\*\*\*the development of Kensington Square in 1685, an urban space among the fields. It was actually started a few years *before* King William and Queen Mary moved their residence, for health reasons, to a mansion then called Nottingham House, now ‘Kensington Palace’.

SOLD OUT • TEiP ON THE HOUSE • PORTOBELLO • SEASON 4 EPISODE 3: BELONGING
Our BIG FREE Friday night episode of Thought Experiments in Pubs. Join us to think (and imagine) out loud with an openminded group of people from all walks of life :-) This time we'll be talking about "BELONGING". We'll explore the theme using three **thought experiments** (posted in the comments below on the day of the event) **The aim of this meetup:** meet new people and have different, thought provoking conversations. You can get a sense of what the events and community are like **[here](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs/)**. **[WHATSAPP GROUP](https://chat.whatsapp.com/D13LHw5BV3rEtUtO3ORklC)** \- stay in the loop **[SUBSTACK](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/)** \- get our newsletter **[INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs/)** & **[FACEBOOK](https://facebook.com/thoughtexperimentsinpub)** \- bits and pieces about the people\, the thought experiments\, and the community **How we'll do it** (timings approximate)**:** * **6:30** \- Arrive at the pub\, find us in the dining room * Organise ourselves into small groups (4-7ish...recent research finding: apparently 4 is the best number for a good conversation!) * Have a look at the thought experiments (posted here on the day of the event) * **6:45** \- First rotation begins \- Talk about the first thought experiment\. If you don’t want to talk about that one\, move on to another one\. Feel free to veer off topic\. * **7:05** \- Optional shuffle: swap groups\, move on to the second thought experiment\. * **7:30** \- Optional shuffle: swap groups\, move on to the third thought experiment\. * **7:55** \- Wrap up \- hear about upcoming events\, join the whatsapp group\, give feedback/requests for future meetups\. * **8:00** Meetup ‘ends’. But feel free to carry on conversations :-) **Notes on the general atmosphere:** * The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic. * While we'd like to talk about 'meaningful things', we also see the value in lighter topics, so don't worry about not being 'deep' enough! * Feel free to suggest ideas for future episodes of Thought Experiments in Pubs, both in terms of structure and topics to discuss. **Where we'll meet:** This group will be at the Earl of Lonsdale Pub on Portobello. The nearest Tube station is Notting Hill Gate. **Who should come:** Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about *doing* philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc. etc.... Looking forward to meeting & talking with you! If you would like to support me & these meetups with a donation, you can do so here: https://buymeacoffee.com/bonnyastor Thank you! \*\*[ALTERNATIVE PLATFORM FOR TICKETS](https://tribeirl.com/thought-experiments-in-pubs) \- TRIBE\*\* #everyonewelcome #newideas #newpeople #inclusivity #openmindedness
BASIC TILING EVENING
BASIC TILING EVENING
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/basic-tiling-evening-64/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/basic-tiling-evening-64/) ⋆⋆⋆ Not quite sure where to start with a tiling project? A bit daunted by the thought of tiles falling off the wall if you do get them on? What about those half tiles at the corners… and what about drilling into the tile? If the thought of tackling a tiling project yourself is terrifying, yet you yearn for the skills to have a go, then this evening or half-day weekend workshop is just for you. In this hands-on practical workshop, an experienced tiler will guide you through choosing appropriate tiles for the job, sizing up, planning out, and preparing the surface. You will use the correct adhesive to tile a small area and learn how to grout in between the tiles to ensure a watertight finish. Practice cutting straight lines and curves. Come and break our tiles instead of yours while you practice. Bring photos of problem areas and leave with expert advice and confidence to help you complete your very own project at home. All personal protection, tools, and materials are included. Beginners welcome.
DIY IN A DAY – DRILLS
DIY IN A DAY – DRILLS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-drills-341/ **⋆⋆⋆** Learn the basics at this fast-paced but relaxed one-day workshop. A perfect starter for all those annoying jobs around the house that you feel you should be able to tackle…if only you knew how. We know it’s frustrating to wait for it to be done and then get charged for it and we understand it can be a bit daunting to head into a wall with a power drill. Pick up the skills to hang curtains, blinds, and simple shelves on any wall. Learn to drill into wood, brick, tiles, or hollow walls with confidence. We will show you how to judge what is behind the walls before you drill. An enjoyable ‘ hands-on’ one-day workshop that covers many of the common aspects of basic DIY. If you have just bought your home and have realized it didn’t include a landlord to fix stuff, or just don’t want to rely on someone else, this day is for you. There is plenty of time to practice on several exercises over the day. The workshop also covers hanging pictures and heavier objects like mirrors, cupboards, and flat-screen TVs. You will learn how to hang a hook, fix a baton, and then a pair of level shelf brackets. Finish off the day learning how to fit shelves into awkward alcoves – a handy skill you can use to fit work surfaces too. Learn how to select the correct drill bit, wall fixing, and screw to secure things confidently. The day will also include a chance to fill small and medium holes in wood and walls to prepare your surfaces for painting. Along the way, we show you how to remove old wall fixings and what to do with the ones you can’t. This a fun fast day with plenty of tools to try and lots of advice on which tools to have in a basic toolkit. If you are thinking of upgrading your drill, you can test all of the ones we use and feel more knowledgeable about what you want to buy. This course is especially suitable if you are not handy or if you are able, but not that confident, about tackling small but important tasks in your home. We will also suggest how to tell if a task is appropriate for DIY or GSI (Get Someone In). You will take home a set of skills that will last a lifetime. All tools and materials included. Perfect for beginners.
