Project needs vary but often include brainstorming, researching, writing, coding, or analyzing data. Check out [our website](https://www.civictechdc.org/projects) for a list of projects which may make an appearance! Meet other civic tech enthusiasts. Learn new skills. Contribute to a project to improve a local civic issue. **All are welcome and collaboration is encouraged.** Laptops are recommended but not required. **Where do I register?** To better serve our growing community, we’re transitioning our event registrations to Luma! **We still love Meetup** Meetup has been an incredible platform for us to build and connect with our community. We’ll continue sharing upcoming events there so that new people can find us, but Luma will be our primary registration platform moving forward. **Why we're making the switch** Meetup’s registration system has some limitations, and we need more flexibility to manage sign-ups and engagement. \-\-\-\-\-\- [REGISTER FOR THE EVENT HERE (ON LUMA)!](https://luma.com/v5sqyt7p) \-\-\-\-\-\-

There is nothing X-rated, but some of the questions would be considered R-rated or involve adult themes. HOW IT WORKS: This completely online event will be LIVE and you will be able to see and hear the other participants while playing. In addition you will get to meet and interact with other participants. At game time, your host will read off several survey questions on a variety of topics. Your goal is to come up with the number one answer to each question and write it down on your paper. Once the round is over (about 6 questions), we will go through the answers and determine who had the highest score for the round. The winners will get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize at the end of the event. Prizes will be an Amazon Gift card! HOW DO YOU FIND THE ONLINE EVENT ROOM: Zoom link will be emailed to you DAY OF THE EVENT. RSVPS on here are NOT reflective of actual attendance as this is a multi group event. Stories, Resources & Community Lunch and Conversation
Stories, Resources & Community Lunch and Conversation
On the Pike, you’ll find one of the most vibrant and diverse food scenes in Arlington — home to dozens of international, locally owned restaurants that each help shape the culture and character of our community. Columbia Pike’s Monthly Lunch Club brings neighbors, business owners, and community leaders together to share ideas, build connections, and support the incredible restaurants that make the Pike so special. Lunch Club takes place on the last Wednesday of every month and is designed to celebrate local businesses while creating meaningful conversations around the table. This month, we’re heading to Sofia’s Pupuseria, a longtime Pike favorite known for its delicious Salvadoran comfort food and welcoming atmosphere. We’ll also be joined by representatives from the Columbia Pike Library, who will share information about free community resources, upcoming programs, and ways the library continues to serve as an important hub for our neighborhood. Come hungry, bring a friend, and be part of the conversation. 🕛 12:00 – 1:30 PM 📅 Wednesday, June 24, 2026 📍 Sofia’s Pupuseria Proudly sponsored by Washington Workplace
DC's Summer Surge: Policing, Repression, and Building Community Resistance
DC's Summer Surge: Policing, Repression, and Building Community Resistance
This summer, federal and local officials have announced a new "Summer Surge" initiative that will increase law enforcement operations across Washington, DC. While presented as a response to public safety concerns, the initiative exposes a fundamental contradiction: communities facing disinvestment, unemployment, displacement, and unmet social needs are being met with increased policing rather than increased resources and democratic control over the conditions that shape their lives. This [Assata Shakur Popular Education (ASPE)](https://pacapower.org/our-work/programs/assg/ "https://pacapower.org/our-work/programs/assg/") session will examine the political context and implications of the newly announced Summer Surge. Together, we will discuss what genuine public safety looks like and how communities can build collective resistance and self-determination. *Food will be provided!* The ASPE are hybrid sessions with the option to participate via Zoom. **To join via Zoom use this link [https://tinyurl.com/africansstudy](https://tinyurl.com/africansstudy "https://tinyurl.com/africansstudy")**

DIY Hours at Del Ray Shop
DIY Hours at Del Ray Shop
This is an opportunity for volunteers to support a professional mechanic as he guides customers working on their own bikes. If you know how to do some basic repairs, that's a plus, but even if you don't, you can greet customers and manage who gets helped next. Feel free to attend for only a portion of the time if you can't be there the whole three hours. Please note that this event is not usually an opportunity to learn about bicycle repair, since the mechanic tends to be very busy helping customers, especially during the warmer months. But it's a great way to contribute to Velocity, since almost all the funding for the volunteer program comes from the work done at the shops.

June Book Club Meetup
June Book Club Meetup
Welcome, readers! Our June read is ***Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible*** ***Voyage*** **by Alfred Lansing.** A work of nonfiction, and one of the most astonishing survival stories in history, we follow Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew after their ship is crushed by Antarctic ice. Stranded in one of the harshest environments on Earth, the men endure months of isolation, freezing temperatures, and near starvation—yet refuse to give up hope. Lansing brings their ordeal to life through vivid detail and firsthand accounts, capturing both the brutality of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. At its core, the story is a powerful testament to leadership, perseverance, and the unbreakable will to survive against impossible odds. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **all** **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖
