All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 130 / In the Mood for Love
In the Mood for Love (traditional Chinese: 花樣年華; simplified Chinese: 花样年华; lit. 'Flower-like Years', 'the prime of one's youth') is a 2000 romantic drama film written, directed, and produced by Wong Kar-wai. A co-production between Hong Kong and France, the film follows a man (Tony Leung) and a woman (Maggie Cheung) in 1962 who discover that their spouses are having an affair. As they spend time together, they gradually develop feelings for one another. It is often listed as one of the greatest films of all time and one of the major works of Asian cinema.
Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening. 🙏
We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema.

Exposing the Classics 2.0: Strobe Lighting Focus
**EXPOSING THE CLASSICS 📸🩰**
*(with a particular focus on Strobe Lighting!)*
DPL is happy to bring back our Exposing the Classics workshop, with a particular focus this time on working with strobe lighting–Saturday 21 February at The Camera Club in South London!
Take a look at some of the images we managed to capture last time. Using slightly different techniques we will:
◼️ Explore iconic choreographic moments from the classical repertoire.
◼️ With one dancer and one lens, recreate the imagery of a corps de ballet.
◼️ Learn the photographic techniques behind long exposure and layering.
This whorkshop will be led by Michelle Buckley (professional dancer & co-founder/director of DPL) and Nick Gregan (professional photographer & author). Together, we will guide you through this specially curated workshop in a professional studio, using the specific techniques to create the impression of a corps de ballet.
***THE BREAKDOWN:***
◼️ FEE: £75
◼️ WHO: [Michelle Buckley](www.michellebuckley.dance), [Nick Gregan](https://nickgregan.com/)

WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
