Every Thursday evening, at Gospel Oak Methodist Church, Agincourt Road, London NW3 2NT our choir tries out new material and practises songs in 4 - 8 part harmony under the direction of our superb Musical Director Ben Cox, and accompanist, Jonathan Taylor. Since then the project has gone from strength to strength. After the Covid pandemic Ben was joined by Ashley John Long on bass and Jon Bradford Jones on drums, whilst Matt remains with the group as a producer and engineer. Cameron Saint (RWCMD and RAM) regularly takes on bass duties when Ashley is unavailable.** **Chube has performed at a number of festivals including the Brecon Jazz Festival, In It Together Festival, Harp on Wight, Aberjazz, Croftfest. and Wall2Wall Jazz Festivals - giving a unique recital with special guest Dennis Rollins MBE on trombone at the latter. In 2025 they gave their European debut at the Stellae Matutinae European Harp Symposium in Feldkirch, Austria. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
