Ramble in the Glen (4.2 km)
In the centre of Toronto are several Glen places: Glencairn, Glen Park, Glen Long, and Glen Grove. However, there are no actual glens. Just quiet suburban houses.
This hike will take in these neighbourhoods and the two minor food streets there: Marlee Ave and Dufferin St. The majority of the residents are of Italian and Portuguese descent, and it's reflected in the eateries in the area. We'll pass by Italian supermakets, cafes, and an old stalwart for frozen meals. Strangely, there are no great Italian restaurants here, so we'll end at either an authentic Colombian restaurant or a greasy Greek fast food joint.
Note: Some notable grocers and bakeries close at 6pm. Come earlier to check out them out.
**Highlights**
1. Viewmount Park (depart 6:30pm)
2. Nicky J’s Hot Chicken
3. York Beltline Trail / Walter Saunders Memorial Park
4. California Sandwiches (depart 7:10pm)
5. Lady York Foods
6. Columbus Bakery
7. Delicacy Kitchen
8. Esto es Colombia (arrive 7:45pm)
**Neighbourhoods**
Englemount-Lawrence > Glen Park > Glen Long

**How it works**
Hike starts punctually. Late or can't do the whole route? Meet us at scheduled checkpoints.
We'll browse many food places but won't linger long. See the route in advance, organize takeout, then pickup along the way.
Not sure what to try? Join our omakase for $5, which gives a tiny sample from different restaurants. Payment on the day of event by cash or e-transfer to globaltorontoeats@gmail.com. No refunds after orders are placed. Details of sampled food will be uploaded after the hike.
Limited cutlery provided. Highly recommended to bring cutlery and containers for omakase and bringing back leftovers.
See our [About section](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/) for more info.

C-food and Eat It @ Coastal Flats
They have great seafood so if you see some of it, eat it!
Here is their menu: greatamericanrestaurants.com (https://www.greatamericanrestaurants.com/coastalflats/gaithersburg/Menus/Dinner)
Yes, “it’s a chain, but the food is delicious” at these moderately priced seafooders where “wonderful” lobster rolls, “terrific” crab cakes and “to-die-for” shrimp and grits arrive in “noisy”, “beach-themed” dining rooms; the “efficient” servers “know the menu well”, and though they generally “don’t take reservations”, “you can call ahead” to get a spot in line.

Cheffy Vietnamese Street Food at Chao Ban!
Join us for some cheffy Vietnamese Street food from Moon Rabbit's chef, Kevin Tien, at his new conept - ***Chao Ban*** in Tysons Galleria!
***Washingtonian:***
At his upscale restaurant Moon Rabbit, chef Kevin Tien and his team reimagine Vietnamese food with modern dishes like mochi beignets with fresh eel or green-curry sponge cake. But at his new fast-casual spot, Chao Ban, in Tysons Galleria, Tien is focusing on more familiar staples like pho and banh mi—albeit with some of his usual cheffy twists.
“If you want super traditional Vietnamese food, definitely go check out the original mom and pop places,” says Tien, citing Eden Center and standbys like Pho 75. “We’re just trying to do what our version is.”
At Chao Ban—meaning “hello, friend”—Tien has teamed up with Alan Vo, his partner in Hot Lola’s fried chicken joint and a longtime friend from his early restaurant days in Louisiana. One of the banh mi at Chao Bun features Hot Lola’s Sichuan-chili-oil-spiked Nashville hot chicken. Other sandwiches come stuffed with salt and pepper shrimp—a nod to the chef’s late nights at New Big Wong in Chinatown—or crispy pork belly rubbed in pho spices.
All of them come on bread that arrives par-baked from Leidenheimer Baking Company in New Orleans. “When you take a bite, there’s like a million crumbs everywhere, with a super soft interior,” Tien says. The toasted bread also accompanies a couple bowls, such as a lemongrass beef short rib stew or a lemongrass chicken coconut curry.
Other snackier dishes include fried spring rolls, nuoc cham chicken wings, and honey pecan shrimp (a riff on honey walnut shrimp) with yuzu kosho mixed into the condensed milk drizzle. Tien expects a sleeper hit to be the shrimp chips and dip with a Vietnamese “salsa” made from charred tomatoes, chipotles, shallots, lime, and fish sauce.
On the more traditional end of the menu is pho, including a beef version with 12-hour brisket and another with halal lemongrass chicken. (All the chicken on the menu is halal, and Tien is hoping to expand the offerings soon.) “We’re toasting all our spices by hand for the pho, so it’s like the freshest all our spices could be,” Tien says.

BreadBreakers Community Dinner: Dialogue Over Divisions
**In a time of division and isolation, come be part of the community that's rebuilding the town square, one table at a time.**
In BreadBreakers, we use the common space of the dining table to have conversations where neighbors can **hear, be heard, and know one another.** If you're hungry for good conversation and deeper community, join us for a Community Dinner in Reston and help blaze the trail to a healthier, more connected society and democracy.
Here’s how it works: For just two hours, multiple tables of people set aside the need to "win" and instead focus on sharing, listening, and connecting. Guided by experienced table hosts, we'll tell our stories, try to understand each other, and practice being in community with those with different views or backgrounds.
**At this dinner, participants will get to choose between three different topics, including some current events.** Topics range from the political, to the "slice of life", to the spiritual, to the philosophical, to the off-the-wall - but no matter which table you choose to sit at, you can be sure it'll be like no dinner conversation you've had before! You can also **suggest a topic** by emailing us at BreadBreakersInfo@gmail.com.
Food will be provided for free. For those who wish to provide a donation to help fund BreadBreakers, you can [give here](https://pushpay.com/g/restorationrestonumc?fnd=pO6G-N7oO7FH7Mp1u-x6mA&fndv=Lock&r=No&lang=en&src=pcgl) or at the event.
We'll have vegetarian and gluten-free options available. If you have any additional dietary restrictions (Celiac Disease, vegan, etc.) please let us know at BreadBreakersInfo@gmail.com so that we can implement the appropriate food handling procedures.
**Join us, invite a friend, and be a part of the movement to mend our fractured society and normalize a better way of talking with one another.**
BreadBreakers, an initiative by [Restoration United Methodist Church](https://restorationreston.org/breadbreakers) in Reston, VA, is a religiously inclusive community. All faiths and all stripes are welcomed. Our leadership, volunteer team, and community include people who attend Restoration and people who don't.
Indian Cuisine Veggie-Style@ Woodlands
If I could eat veggies like this every day, I'd become a joyful vegetarian!
You won't believe how good their food is. Don't need any meat.
They have a couple of plates that have a variety of dishes to taste for $17.95 or $19.95. And of course, you can order just one dish that you prefer, and we can also have a taste of each other's food or share if you want to (but you don't have to).
Kootu is excellent and so is Bhel Puri. (I'll get both next time!)
Curies are all excellent. And the breads are wonderful and so are the desserts.
Once you go, you'll keep going.
Have a look at their menu:
