Board, card & dice games night at my place or The George (depending on numbers)
Hi everyone!
(pre-pandemic information)
If you like to play modern board, card and dice games, and to meet new people, then join us on Monday evenings from 6pm until the pub closes around 11pm.
Feel free to bring your own games if you have them, but don't worry if you don't as regular members will bring some along. And of course, we'll teach you how to play them if you don't know already.
You work late? No worries - you can join us any time before closing (11pm), so if you don't arrive at 6pm (attendees tend to arrive around 6:30 or 7pm), don't worry :-) Everyone comes and goes when they like, so it is possible that you may be the first to arrive or the last to leave,
Please write in the comments what time you expect to arrive at the pub, so we can try to avoid anyone having to wait alone for long.
We are a relaxed and friendly group, made up of both natives and foreigners, of locals and those living further afield, happy to welcome newbies and regulars.
Events are free to attend, but it is respectable to the public venues we hold them at if you can buy at least one drink or some food while you are present, just like anyone else at the pub would do.
If you would like to contribute towards the costs of running of this group, feel free to buy the host(s) a drink of their choice when you see them, for which they'd be very grateful. This saves money that can be put towards the Meetup subscription fees and buying the games that we all play.
The George is a reasonably-priced 'local' pub in the Docklands, near Canary Wharf, just 1 minute walk from Crossharbour DLR station, or about 15 minutes walk from the Canary Wharf Jubilee line station. Various TFL buses stop nearby.

Tuesday Hot Choc Mob
Join Us for a Hot Choc Mob Evening!
We’ll be hitting the streets of London with something simple but powerful: warm drinks, snacks, and human connection.
The Hot Choc Mob is a group of volunteers who believe a small act of kindness can mean a lot to someone sleeping rough or living through a tough time. We’re not a charity or religious group—just people who care and want to make a difference in our city.
You don’t need any experience to join us. You’ll be welcomed by our walk leader and introduced to the group. From there, we’ll spend about an hour sharing hot chocolate, food, clothing, and friendly conversation with people who need it most. Afterwards, if you’d like to stay, we’ll regroup at a local pub to share stories and get to know each other.
Items to bring along that are highly appreciated include bottled water or juice, soft fruit, tinned sardines, new socks, boxer shorts and t-shirts.
And if you have a flask for hot water - instant coffee, tea bags, instant hot chocolate, sugar and milk enable us to make hot drinks for those we meet.
If you can’t attend but still want to support us, we also have an
[Amazon Wishlist](https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/3T0FPY3DHUG9A?type=wishlist&filter=all&sort=priority&viewType=list)
for essential items.
This is your chance to make a real impact in someone’s day while meeting like-minded people who care about community and connection. Spaces are limited, so click RSVP now and join us for an evening that truly matters.

FOLLOW-ON WOODWORK
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/follow-on-woodwork-3/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/follow-on-woodwork-3/)
⋆⋆⋆
Directed at those people who have completed one of our longer woodwork courses, or those with confident woodwork skills, we offer an eleven-day week opportunity to build an individual project.
During this course, run by experienced carpenter/joiner/furniture maker Ruth Thomson, you will learn how to manage a practical project from sketching it, making a technical drawing, writing a cutting list, costing, marking out and construction to produce a piece of wood furniture.
The group will visit a timber yard to learn how to select lengths of soft woods.
You will learn the safe use and versatility of a router, a biscuit jointer, a jigsaw and other power tools as needed and learn when and how to make jigs to help fabricate accurate shapes. Using basic workshop machines including a bandsaw and a belt sander, as well as classic hand tools, you will cut and assemble and then learn how to sand, glue and finish your project to completion.
We are happy to discuss your personal project if you already have something in mind. There is a size limitation due to time constraints and project storage. Call Alison on 0207 7607613 or send a photo or sketch to info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk
Each learner will pay for their own materials. We can take delivery of timber if externally sourced. Please note that we cannot handle MDF in the workshop as the dust requires special extraction and respiratory equipment. Plywood or solid timber will be pre-machined for you on our planer thicknesser and table saw.

Travel Now - London Chapter - Travel For Free*
## 🌍 **Travel Now — London Chapter**
Welcome to the London Chapter of **London Travel Now** 👋
This is a relaxed, community-powered **travel social meetup** for people who enjoy exploring, planning trips, sharing tips, and meeting fellow travelers—both online and in real life.
London Travel Now is a **multi-city travel social community**. While we host in-person meetups like this one, most connections start and continue on our online platform:
👉[ ](londontravelnow.com)**[londontravelnow.com](londontravelnow.com)**
That’s where members chat, share ideas, plan trips together, and stay connected between meetups.
***
✈️ *Travel for Free (yes, really)*\*
We get asked this a lot, so here’s the simple version:
\*\*Trip organizers travel free on the trips they create and run.\*\`
If you:
* Plan the trip
* Handle the bookings
* Bring the group together
your spot on the trip is covered.
\*Free applies to the trip organizer once the trip reaches minimum participants and is confirmed. Everyone else pays their own share.
No travel industry experience required—just organization, reliability, and enthusiasm.
***
☕ **Where we meet**
Meetups are kept simple and accessible—central cafés, pubs, or casual venues around London.
There’s no formal agenda and no presentations.
Just show up, grab a drink, and chat.
(Exact venue details are always listed on the event page.)
***
🧭 **How this meetup works (important)**
This chapter is part of a **community-led social network**.
* Meetups are informal and community-powered
* The main London Travel Now organizer may not attend every event
* Attendees cover their own food and drinks
* There may or may not be a designated host at each meetup
Think of this as a casual, drop-in **travel social**, not a guided or hosted event.
If you’re comfortable introducing yourself, joining conversations, and helping create a friendly atmosphere, you’ll fit right in.
***
💬 **WhatsApp community (recommended)**
We also have a shared **London Travel Now WhatsApp community** with spaces for different cities.
👉 Join here:
[https://chat.whatsapp.com/GjmFuzbk0baFavZRN0JGTz](https://chat.whatsapp.com/GjmFuzbk0baFavZRN0JGTz)
Inside the London space, members:
* Coordinate meetups
* Ask questions
* Share travel ideas and trip plans
* Stay connected between events
Joining is optional, but it’s the easiest way to stay in the loop.
***
🗓️ **What to expect**
* Friendly, informal travel conversations
* Trip ideas, tips, and shared experiences
* Meeting people you may want to travel with in the future
* A low-pressure, welcoming environment
This is a **community meetup**, not a tour, class, or sales event.
***
🙌 **We’re looking for Chapter Organizers**
As London Travel Now grows, we’re looking for local **Chapter Organizers**, including here in London.
Chapter Organizers help:
* Host or co-host meetups (weekly or monthly)
* Choose simple, accessible venues
* Welcome attendees and help spark conversation
* Create and organize trips for the community
Trip organizers travel free on the trips they run.\*
No prior experience needed—just reliability and a friendly attitude.

✨ **Come along**
New faces are always welcome.
Bring curiosity, a travel story, or just yourself.
This community works best when members help make it welcoming—we hope you’ll be part of it.
Eco Around February Litter Pick - Clapham Common (South London)
Join the Eco Around Community for a litter pick walk.
The February litter pick will start from Clapham Common station and will be hosted by Seán (+44 7865 091666).
When:
Sunday, 15th February, from 11:00 to 1:00 pm. Feel free to stay longer for a coffee or some bites.
How to dress and what to bring:
Appropriate footwear, no open-toed shoes, and we recommend some waterproofs (just in case). Bring some gloves (no single-use ones, though!), a black bin bag (we collect all in one bag as the litter will be too dirty to be recycled, unfortunately), a litter picking stick if you have one at hand (Seán will bring a few), and a refillable water bottle in case you get thirsty. Hand Sanitiser is also useful.
Updates:
Unless it's torrential rain, we will stick to our plans. Please check the event for updates.

🎬 Movie Night - Send Help – What Would You Actually Do?
"Help isn’t coming. And even if it does… you might not want it."
– Survival isn’t just about staying alive — it’s about keeping your mind when everything else goes feral.
📅 **Date:** Wednesday, 12 February 2026
🕕 **Show Time:** 19:10
🧭 **Meeting Time:** 18:00 outside Cineworld Crawley to get a drink or dinner or 18:50
📍 **Cinema Address:** Unit 1, Crawley Leisure Park, Crawley, RH10 8LR (15 mins walk from Crawley Station)
🎬 **Screening Type:** 2D
🪑 **Screen:** 2
🎟 **My Seat:** R15
***
### 🎬 About the Film:
**SEND HELP** comes from **Sam Raimi — the legendary director of *Evil Dead* and *Drag Me to Hell***. That means one thing: beautifully controlled chaos.
What begins like an ordinary situation mutates into a survival nightmare where panic, personality, and bad decisions collide. Raimi doesn’t just scare you — he makes you laugh at the exact moment you shouldn’t.
Beneath the madness, the film teases some great questions:
• Who are we when modern comfort disappears?
• Are we capable in a crisis – or just people with low phone batteries?
• When pressure hits, do we trust, betray, or turn everything into content?
• And why, in true Raimi style, is disaster sometimes uncomfortably hilarious?
Expect tension, dark humour, and that signature Raimi energy where horror and comedy wrestle for control.
***
### 🧭 Meeting Point:
Let’s meet at **18:00 or 18:50 outside Cineworld Crawley** — quick hellos, snacks if needed, then we head in together before things get messy on screen.
🪑 I’m in **Seat R15, Screen 2** — feel free to book next to me 😀.

### 💬 After the Movie:
Optional drink nearby to unpack the madness:
– Are we really as capable as we imagine, or just well-charged spectators of our own lives?
– Does crisis reveal character — or create it?

Book Club Part 2 - Honouring the Earth.
**Honouring the earth** Part 2 of the book club 'Cherishing the Earth' led
by Alison Bybee and David Carter.
Join us for insightful discussions over tea and cake, as we explore a book that celebrates and reflects on our planet, searching for a spiritual response to the ecological crisis that confronts us all. We will meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month for four months.
The book, *Cherishing the Earth – Nourishing the Spirit*, edited by Maria Curtis, presents a range of Unitarian responses to the global environmental crisis. Contributors include ministers, lay people, and children, writing from diverse theological and ethical perspectives, exploring what it might mean to live in right relationship with the Earth. Their insights range from the prophetic and political to the practical and intensely personal, but all share a sense of gratitude for the sacred gift of life.
Maria Curtis asks what changes we need to make in ourselves and in our society if we are to work towards healing the Earth and restoring balance to the global ecosystem: *“We need to re-imagine what a healthy relationship between humanity and the natural world might look like, one conducive to the flourishing of all beings onEarth.”* Rev. Dr Maria Curtis is a Unitarian minister with a background in education and psychology.
Our four book club sessions:
**18th January: Prophetic Voices**
**15th February: Honouring the Earth**
**15th March: Changing Hearts and Minds**
**19th April: Active Hope and Young Voices**
Each session will be standalone so that you can attend all, several or just one.
We encourage participants to buy or borrow the book and to have read the sections if possible beforehand. **Buy the book: email *[alonghurst@unitarian.org.uk](mailto:alonghurst@unitarian.org.uk)* (£12 plus £3.50 P&P) Subsidised books available by request for those in financial need, just contact: [ministryteam@rosslynhillchapel.org.uk](mailto:ministryteam@rosslynhillchapel.org.uk)**
Suggested donation: £10, for those who can afford to make a contribution. We are a registered charity - please give what you can.
Power of Earth
Hi, lovely Wytchery Witches!
We're thrilled to announce that our next Wytchery workshop is now open for booking. It's taking place on Wednesday, 11th February, from 7-9pm at our usual haunt, Treadwells Bookshop in London. The cost is £10 (plus a small booking fee) to cover Treadwell's room hire and the cost of any materials we'll be using. **Please do arrive at the shop with plenty of time to spare, so we can get started promptly at 7pm.**
Get set for our Element of Earth workshop. In this workshop we will talk about different Earth magics and you will each craft a small god or goddess statue for your personal altars, which we will charge up with some good earthy energy raising.
The Magic of Earth is transformation – from the sun’s light into life-sustaining food. It is of the mother, who births us then takes us back after death. It is the magic of defence and protection as well as that of the mundane - money, wealth, society, happiness etc. Earth rules all bodily functions, also confidence and the personality, but its dark side is depression, restriction and dullness.
Earth is manifest in caves, caverns, mountains, forests and valleys – but you can find it anywhere and everywhere, it is the foundational element where we live our lives. It rules fertility and birth and all things growth – abundance, prosperity, money, business, employment; but it also rules death, corruption, rot and depression. Earth magic takes many forms; common among which is the magic of burying things so they can grow or rot away. Stones have magic of their own and tend to find their way into witches pocketses.
The Wytchery is an inclusive and welcoming space for solitary witches with little or no experience working with a group. We believe that magic is for everyone, and we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you can feel free to be yourself. Our workshops are perfect for those who are new to the craft or haven't had much experience working in a group.
You're free to drop in and out as you please, and you'll get hands-on experience with all sorts of magical goodies, from raising power and working spells to creating talismans and magical tools. We're all about getting involved, whether that's through movement, crafting, or meditation. You'll meet new people, learn new skills, and have the chance to contribute to our little community.
We're not in this to make a profit – we just want to create a lovely, social space for like-minded witches to come together and learn from each other. We're always learning, and we're sure you'll find something to inspire you. hone your skills, you would also be most welcome to join us. We find we learn new things all the time, even after years of magical practice.

Columbus: A Study in Psalms--Psalm 1 and 2
Is doing good really its own reward? To look around the world and see wrongdoing, injustice, and seemingly-gotten-away-with crime, people have often wondered whether or not it is "worth it" to do the right thing.
These are not new questions--going back at least 3,000 years, human beings have wrestled with such questions, and the Psalmist, ca. 1,000 BC, sought such answers as well. He came to the conclusion that there was, indeed, an answer, and one that brought hope: God sees, God knows, and God will not allow evil to triumph, nor will He allow the wicked to escape justice. In addition to God's justice, He also promises mercy and blessing to those who humble themselves and follow Him.
Psalm 1 and 2 address the underlying concerns of both of these questions--will wrong one day be righted, and is it worth it to do right, in spite of so much evil--with a resounding, "Yes, indeed!" Doing rightly is always good and *will* be blessed. Doing wrongly is always wrong, and those who think they have "gotten away with it" will one day understand the truth: God will not be mocked, and justice *will* prevail.
Come join us, **6:30 pm, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at True Food Kitchen, Easton Town Center**, and be encouraged by ancient truth that is still vitally essential today!

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE: A man from the future arrives at a diner in Los Angeles where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean series) and stars Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Asim Chaudhry, Tom Taylor, and Juno Temple.

EARLY BUZZ AND REVIEWS: Early reviews have been stellar with the film earning a 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes! “It offers laughs, thrills, and it’s a thinker; you will not be disappointed.” It’s a “laugh-filled yet incredibly dark and poignant fever dream that pleads for a safer AI tomorrow” and director Gore Verbinski's “command over utter chaos is nothing short of marvelous!”
PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 6:20pm showing and meet in the bar area between 5:45 and 6:00pm! A smaller theater so advance ticket purchase as soon as possible is advised! (If we fill it up, we can sometimes persuade them to move it to a larger theater.) One you have yours, please list your seat number in the Comments below.
Should be a fun one, Dan
Humanist Community Celebrating Darwin Day
Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program:
Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there!
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
