We're celebrating Spring with our Annual Kentucky Derby Gala. We'll be celebrating in style. We're inviting all ladies to come out and join us to celebrate Spring and the Kentucky Derby. Find your favorite Spring attire and if you have a special Derby hat/fascinator please wear it and show us your special Derby style. We've been doing our Gala's for over 7 years. We're holding our Gala at Samuel Beckett's Irish Gastro Pub in Shirlington. We start with our Happy Hour, at 5pm, in the back room area many of us are familiar with. Becketts has a large menu of options and there are 3 TVs for race watching if you can pull yours eyes off your other fabulous party goers. There is a large patio area for anyone wishing to sit outside. Parking is right next door at the Randolph Square Parking Garage - 2850 S Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22206. Capoeira (capo-way-ra) is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that is unlike any other martial art. Capoeira incorporates flowing movements with kicks, dodges, and some acrobatics. It is often mistaken for a dance for those reasons. Since it’s origins in the 17th century, it has evolved from a secret fighting practice into an art emphasizing self-expression and community celebration. It is great for the body and mind! In addition to gaining strength and flexibility in class, students learn about Brazilian culture, history, and language (Portuguese). On November 26, 2014 capoeira was granted a special protected status as "intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO.
