Always wanted to sing but worried about performing in public? Looking for a group to help coach and support your singing at all levels...? Want to learn more about music technique and sight singing while having fun at the same time? Then London Sings! is the group for you. London Sings! is a no audition local community choir which is big in personality and looking to grow. We cater both for experienced singers and those fairly new to singing, with plenty of opportunities for interesting performances. We are even planning a trip to Madrid this year! We sing a wide variety of pieces ranging from jazz and musical theatre to classical, and from unison through to four part harmony, while having a lot of fun in the process. We rehearse every Monday evening , starting at 19:30 and finishing at 21:30 (with a break for snacks and chat obviously!). Rehearsals are held at Mostyn Road Methodist Church, Mostyn Road at St Lawrence Way, London, SW9 6PH. Open weekly Maracatu percussion classes for all levels – beginners to advanced – Newbies very welcome! The classes are run by Sam Alexander, a professional musician, teacher, and artist. He leads the community group Baque de Axé in London, which plays traditional Maracatu Carnival percussion music from Recife in Pernambuco, Brazil. **Monday Evening Chanting Circle \| 6:30–8:00pm** Start the week by unwinding your body and mind through voice and sound. This weekly chanting class is a relaxed, welcoming space to come together after work and reset through simple, shared vocal practice. FREE ENTRY! The all Electronic Music Open Mic (EMOM) returns to The (legendary) Dublin Castle, 94 Parkway, Camden, London. NW1 7AN Hosted by EMOM Founder Martin Christie. Taking place on the first Wednesday of every month this is an open stage night for London based electronic and experimental musicians. This night is aimed at giving local artists a supportive space in which to play live and experiment, and socialise with like minded people. Seeking all forms of electronic/experimental music including: ambient, soundtrack, dance, techno, noise, electropop, drone, glitch, experimental hip-hop, field recordings, electrojazz, chiptune, looping, synthwave, trance, live coding, sound design, etc. Get out of your home studio or bedroom, and come out to a fun, supportive night with other enthusiastic tech heads, dabblers and music fans. You don’t need to be an established artist with a full repertoire. This is for anyone who wants to try their hand at playing live in a safe, motivating environment. Phone apps, gadgets, drum machines, loop stations, groove boxes, DJ controllers, sequencers, samplers, modular synths, computers, digital boxes, loose change and a contact mic .. and everything in between…All welcome! Come out and meet other music makers, producers and creative types from all walks of music making. There should be plenty of time to talk gear, production techniques and a whole range of inspiring ideas. Event will run from roughly 7pm-11.00pm with wiggle room depending on interest. Slots are up to 15 minutes (including set-up and play). The pre-booked slots (6 in total) have all gone but we do have additional walk-in slots available on the night. First come first served, but we usually get a slot for everyone who wants one. There is a small main stage, full live-music speaker system, and a sound engineer that will handle mixing to the main PA. We will have a table for you to setup on, and another one to the side, for the next performer to prep/wrap their gear. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
