We are writers of all levels – beginners to published. And we meet at STARBUCK at IFC (P2 Shop2097-2098, International Finance Centre), Central for fun writing and sharing sessions! We all write a one-sentence prompt, then each select one at random. We write something based on the prompt for 45 minutes, after which, we share our work with each other and discuss as desired. Of course, sharing is optional but encouraged. (Feedback is always polite and respectful.) Alternatively, you can bring your own project(s) to work on in the company of fellow writers (published and yet-to-be published). You can share your project(s), too, if you want. It's all about creativity and productivity in a supportive environment! Any questions, just reach out to our organizers through Meetup.

How does plate tectonic shape the ocean and how can we even discover geological mechanisms? This month at Hong Kong Skeptics in the Pub we are lucky to have Markus Rummel who is a marine biologist with a background in biotechnology (MSc.), and Lucia Hu is a research student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, whose research focuses on harnessing the natural filtration power of marine sponges to identify reef fish species. They will give us an overview presentations on concepts of oceanography, illustrated with colorful graphics and videos, Including the physical, chemical and biological mechanisms that shape the environment, life and climate in the ocean as well as the terrestrial ecosystem. **Hike: Cheung Chau Island** **Difficulty Level:** **2 out of 5** **Distance:** **12 km** **Time:** **5 hours (approximate)** **Description:** **If something special is what you are seeking, a visit to Cheung Chau Island is a must. Here's why: the island has NO vehicles, it has a pathway that is pretty much flat, the ocean is visible from almost every angle, there are temples with beautiful architectural features, it has a real pirates' cave, and there's even a rock carving dating back to the Bronze Age (2,000 to 700 BCE). Don't believe me. - come along and see for yourself.** **Some highlights:** **Here are just a few of the many highlights we'll enjoy along the way: North Lookout Pavilion, Rock Carvings from the Bronze Age, Cheung Po Tsai Cave (pirate cave), Tin Hau Temple, Pak Tai Temple, Kwun Yan Beach, Windsurfing Center, and lots and lots of beaches.** **Lunch:** **We’ll stop for lunch about halfway through the hike. We will be catching the gorgeous sunset at the famous Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Tunnel Seaside, grabbing a delicious dinner together, and wrapping up the night with a scenic ride over to the Gold Coast. Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
