Tue. Cafe Writing/Sharing Session
Tue. Cafe Writing/Sharing Session
We are writers of all levels – beginners to published. And we meet at STARBUCK at IFC (P2 Shop2097-2098, International Finance Centre), Central for fun writing and sharing sessions! We all write a one-sentence prompt, then each select one at random. We write something based on the prompt for 45 minutes, after which, we share our work with each other and discuss as desired. Of course, sharing is optional but encouraged. (Feedback is always polite and respectful.) Alternatively, you can bring your own project(s) to work on in the company of fellow writers (published and yet-to-be published). You can share your project(s), too, if you want. It's all about creativity and productivity in a supportive environment! Any questions, just reach out to our organizers through Meetup.

Write Night in HK!
Write Night in HK!
Welcome to Write Night in HK! This is an evening writing group with an after-work drink! We'll meet at Yardley Taproom in Central (62 Peel Street), as they typically have a pretty good and chilled out vibe in the week-day evenings. We write and we share writing - please bring 6-8 printed copies of your work (max 2 pages). The evening group will run differently from the daytime group - we'll do some writing and give each other feedback on our own prior work. So, the evening will go in two parts: 1. We start with a 20 min writing exercise, based on a prompt - bring something to write or type on! Then we'll share and give feedback. 2. We go over any written material you've done before and care to share with us: 2 x full printed pages at most (maybe a bit more if spaced out, such as with poetry). Please bring around 6-8 print-outs. Remember that the place may be a bit noisy - so may be hard for people to hear you if you read your work out loud to others on the night. A note on feedback - please be prepared to offer constructive, nice and supportive feedback. No 'brutal honesty' please. Most people are just getting started, and positive support is the order of the night for this group. The official finish time is 9pm, but feel free to hang around for a bit of mid-week socialising with fellow creatives if you like. Many thanks, and have a great night! Cheers, Roger
Night Owl Write Night
Night Owl Write Night
Join us for a **casual, low-structure, relaxed** 1.5-hour writing meetup designed for writers who want to connect with others in a supportive, no-pressure environment to come and go as you wish, whenever. Whether you're a poet, novelist, blogger, or write in non-natural languages, we welcome every night owl! **What to Expect:** Nothing structured, this is a casual Schelling point for people who happen to write at night. If you are looking for a large group, high-effort, strongly organised event, this is probably not the one for you. If there are new members joining us, we'll start with some introductions, dive into focused writing time on your personal project, and then, optionally, share a short reflection about our writing at the end. **What to Bring:** * A writing project * Something to write with (notebook and pen, laptop, tablet - whatever you prefer) * A curious mind **Finding Us:** Look for the corner table

If you don’t have a clear face pic on your profile and/or your username doesn’t match the name you normally use\, we can’t identify your payments nor match your RSVP with who you are in real life\. If this is you\, please ensure the organiser knows who you are\. If we can’t work out who you are within 24hrs of your RSVP\, we will move you to “Not Going”\. Only group members and their guests with an RSVP may attend events; people who aren’t signed up will be refused entry to events. 7\. If you don’t follow the conditions above\, we will move you to “Not Going” for future events until you message us to confirm you will follow these conditions\.
BYOBook: non-fiction books presentations and discussion
BYOBook: non-fiction books presentations and discussion
This is a regular Bring-Your-Own-Book session, where participants share and present to the group non-fiction books they have read. New members are welcome to attend to listen to and discuss the presentations of others. Usually a meeting takes around 2.5-3 hours. During this time we discuss 2 different books, roughly 1 hour per book. Any non-fiction material: a book, documentary, or lecture or a part of it - anything with a title and an author and that contains some coherent ideas. Each presentation includes a summary of a book (15-40 min) and discussion (accordingly). The meeting will be either in a park or in a coffee shop, on HK side. The exact place to be confirmed with the attendees **by WhatsApp only**. I will / have sent the link to the WhatsApp group, please use the link. Introvert friendly. We have people from different countries, so while books can be in any language, the language of the meeting is English. There is a fee of 20 HKD for the first timers to help funding the Meetup membership needed to run the group. Do not hit "Attend" if you are not going to attend. If you RSVPed, but there is anything preventing you from going to the meeting, remember to tell the host as soon as possible and/or update the RSVP - before the RSVP is closed, to give other people a chance to take your spot. But if you plan to attend, do hit "Attend", please :))) No-shows are all silently noted with much disapproval and will be removed from the group.

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times. Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have. Happy writing!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
