**Backpacking Trip Essential Requirements & Expectations**
*These items outline specific requirements and expectations for all participants on our backpacking trips. These are in addition to the PATC Liability Waiver and are crucial for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of everyone, especially given the remote nature of these trips.*
Please read carefully. By registering for a backpacking trip, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to adhere to these requirements.
1\. Self\-Sufficiency & Responsibility:
\* This is a group trip, but we operate on a self-sufficient model. You are responsible for your own well-being and preparedness throughout the trip.
\* You must carry all your essential equipment, including shelter, food, a first-aid kit, water, and water purification supplies. Sharing some items with a partner is acceptable.
2\. Navigation & Preparedness:
\* You are expected to understand the trip's difficulty, including total mileage, elevation gains and declines, type of terrain, and daily splits.
\* You must be in good physical shape and capable of completing the planned itinerary.
\* You are required to have your own printed maps, as well as a compass and/or GPS, and know how to navigate. This is particularly important if you miss the group's morning departure.
\* If you have a medical condition that could become relevant during the trip (e.g., carrying an EpiPen or inhalers), you must inform the hike leader in advance.
3\. Leave No Trace & Wildlife Safety:
\* All participants must follow Leave No Trace (LNT) principles.
\* You must have an established method for securing your food from bears at night.
4\. Group Dynamics & Punctuality:
\* All participants must be 18 or older.
\* Leave your dog at home for backpacking trips.
\* If carpooling, please bring cash or use Venmo to offset the driver's gas expenses.
\* Punctuality is essential. Be on time for carpool departures and be ready to leave campsites at the agreed-upon times.
\* If you tend to move slowly in the mornings, please allow extra time to be ready for departure.
\* Bring a great sense of humor – it's an essential piece of gear!
5\. Communication:
\* We will be in a remote area that may be out of cell service.
\* If you have any questions or concerns before or during the trip, please ask the hike leader.
**Understanding the Risks:**
Please be aware that backpacking in a remote area, potentially out of cell service, involves inherent dangers and risks. Your preparedness and adherence to these guidelines are vital for the safety of yourself and the entire group.
**Questions:**
David M (“Square Feet”) is the PATC Volunteer leading this event and is a PATC certified Hike & Backpacking Leader, member of Trail Patrol and the Backpacking Committee Chair. David is certified in Wilderness First Aid. PATC’s goal is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, so if you have any questions or need assistance along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out!

👉 Turn Your Lived Experience Into Multiple Books Using AI (Ashburn)
**Saturday • May 16 • 2–5 PM • Ashburn, VA**
Many people say they want to write a book someday — **this session helps you start.**
Your life experiences already contain stories, lessons, and insights that could become books. The real challenge is **how to organize those experiences and actually turn them into writing.**
In this interactive session, I’ll share the approach I’m using to build a **multi-book journey based on lived experience.**
So far I have:
📚 **3 books published on Amazon**
📖 **1 more books releasing this year** (end of the year)
📝 **16 additional books planned** — and likely many more.

We’ll explore how your experiences can evolve into **multiple books over time**, and how to **use AI the right way to speed up your writing while keeping your voice authentic.**
***
### What We’ll Explore
• Turning life experience into book ideas
• How one journey can become multiple books
• Simple ways to structure stories and lessons
• Using **AI to organize ideas and speed up writing**
• Practical strategies to actually finish a book
**Everyone will leave with the outline of their first book idea.**
**You don’t need writing experience — just curiosity about how your life experiences might turn into ideas worth sharing.**
***
### Event Details
💵 **$25 RSVP — includes coffee + snacks**
📍 **Ashburn, VA** (exact address shared after RSVP)
🕑 **2:00 PM – 5:00 PM**
👥 **Max 10 people** for a small, interactive conversation.
Most attendees are professionals, entrepreneurs, and people navigating reinvention or new chapters in life.
***
# Background — Writing & Reinvention Journey
Writing has been one of the most powerful tools in my own reinvention journey.
What began as reflections during a difficult life transition gradually evolved into published books and a growing body of work focused on reinvention, personal growth, and life transitions.
My goal is not just to write books — but to help others realize that their experiences may also hold stories worth sharing.

Soul Coffee in Reston: A BreadBreakers Gathering
**Join us for Soul Coffee, an informal gathering where we can connect a bit deeper, check in on each other, and share some real soul conversation together - as always, across beliefs and traditions.**
Soul Coffee is a gathering by BreadBreakers, a community for people of all stripes to build meaningful relationships and have curious conversations.
**Our mission in BreadBreakers is to be a place of compassion and belonging in a time of division and isolation; to rebuild the town square, one table at a time.**
Usually we do this by breaking bread and having facilitated conversations over dinner, but sometimes it's good to just meet over coffee and spend some unstructured time talking about the deep stuff. At each Soul Coffee, we'll keep it simple and talk about three questions:
- How's your soul doing?
- How have you experienced wonder lately?
- What do you need right now?
No matter your religion, or if you even are religious; no matter where you are spiritually; no matter if you even think souls exist - come to be seen and known, to just be humans together in a crazy world, to talk about those things of the spirit that are so central to the human experience but rarely get discussed.
**Join us, invite a friend, and be a part of the movement to mend our fractured society and normalize a better way of being in community with one another.**
BreadBreakers, an initiative by[ Restoration United Methodist Churc](https://restorationreston.org/breadbreakers)h in Reston, VA, is a religiously inclusive community, a collaboration between the church and those of all different beliefs. All faiths and all stripes are welcomed. Our leadership, volunteer team, and community include people who attend Restoration and people who don't.

Code Gathering at Centreville Library
Non-programmers are absolutely welcome—you don’t need to know how to code to join.
This meetup is for anyone interested in tech. You can share what you’re working on, propose ideas, or just talk about technology.
We typically meet once a month at the Centreville Regional Library, with occasional meetups in Chantilly or other nearby libraries depending on availability.
We usually start with a totally optional intro circle. You can share as much or as little as you’d like—your name, background, interests, what you’re working on, or simply pass and listen.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reach out:

Game Dev Working Session (Tysons-Pimmit VA Library Conference Room)
**Location**: Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library (Virginia) Conference Room
A game development **Working Session** involves 3 key parts:
1. Tell people what you're going to do
2. Actually do stuff
3. Show people what you did
That's what we'll be doing for this meeting. We'll briefly tell each other what we're going to do, then work on our projects, then at around 5:30 wrap up to show each other what we did and chat for a bit.
You don't have to stay the whole time, so feel free to drop in and out as you have time.
All game development skill levels welcome. Whether you're bringing a game you're trying to ship in a month, or you're just planning on following some tutorials or trying out a new tool to improve your skills, use this time to make progress.
Working sessions also train you to think about the scope of your work: pick a chunk of work that you can complete in the time that we have. That way you can end the working session with a feeling of accomplishment!
**What to bring**: Laptop, Charger, maybe a power strip if you have one handy, any other game development tools you need. Try to download any software you need before the working session. There is Wifi at this location, but it may be slow if you have to download any large files.
Loudoun Dev Group 005
Join our new group’s third meeting. Meet fellow tech enthusiasts west of the beltway.
Because our group is new, we have a poll for the direction we want to take this new group.
For this event, we will be running a working meetup.
Our meetings are a great place to work on and show off what you do. We are always welcoming.
Our format is great for people who have started on but not finished one or several side projects.
We will start off with basic introductions and what we are working on and what our goals are. We’ll break the rest of the meeting into two working sessions. In between, we’ll do a quick check-in to see how folks are going.
If the RSVP is full, come anyway. We'll likely have space.
Monthly Game Dev Meetup!
Join local video game developers, artists, musicians and writers to talk about the art and science of game development. Bring a device and demo your game, talk shop, find like minded folks to join forces with, have a snack or a beverage among new friends. We are an informal meetup where we share what we've been working on and socialize. Come for all or just a bit of the time!
NOVA Code & Coffee [164] - At FCED Venue
NOVA Code and Coffee is an inclusive, informal, co-working session. People of all skill levels are invited. The concept is simple, bring a laptop and ideas, we'll provide the coffee and donuts! Here's how it works:
1. At 10:15 everyone introduces themselves and briefly describes what brought them to Code & Coffee today (project, homework, networking, etc)
2. For the rest of the day, folks work in the communal space on their projects providing one another help and conversation as needed. Oh and they usually drink coffee and tea too!
That's it! Hope to see you there!

Conference Room A- Large, Floor 1
This is a new venue for us, so give us some time to get more details about it.
Driving is the best option. There is plenty of free on-site parking. Otherwise, we are a 22 minute bus from the Vienna Metro Station. Bicycling from Vienna is possible but difficult, though once you are here, there's a bike rack in the garage behind the building, and there's also a Capital Bikeshare dock 15 min walk away.
