**Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the [Met Walkers website](https://www.metropolitan-walkers.org.uk/how-to-join/)** In August of 2025 an obstruction to the Thames Path between Vauxhall and Battersea Power Station was removed and there is now a continuous path along the river. We'll walk this whole stretch of the Thames Path and see the new viewing platform and the permanently moored Battersea Barge along the way. We'll also walk through the power station before finishing at Battersea Brewery. Optional pub at the end of the walk for a drink and a chat where everyone is welcome to join.

£5 January Special. This is part 1 of this walk, starting at Cannon Street and ending at Waterloo. Part 2 is on Wednesday January 28th. We will meet at Sir John Hawkshaw which is on the forecourt at Cannon Street Station at 10.45 am, for a hot drink, at 11.15 am. we will leave for our walk. We will walk through ths Stock Exchange, and then visit The Bank Musuem { numbers are limited on going in the museum.} Where time is allowed for this visit. {The Bank of England Museum, located within the Bank of England in the City of London, is home to a collection of diverse items relating to the history of the Bank and the UK economy from the Bank's foundation in 1694 to the present}. Afterwards we will go to the Guildhall where time will also be allowed to look around. Then we will walk to the Barbican, where we will have our lunch in the grounds there { please bring a packed lunch with you} or you can use the cafe. We will then go to Charterhouse, where there will be time to look around. Our walk will take us to ST Bartholomew Hospital, and the 2 churches there, and we will visit 1 of them St Bartholomew the Less. We will then walk past ST. Pauls, and go to the Milennium Bridge and go over it, making our way to Waterloo Station and The Lion and Unicorn for a drink. Where you can get South Western or Underground Trains. Or go to Waterloo East for South Eastern Trains. There will be quite a few steps to climb on this walk., so if you have a knee problem, this walk may be not for you. With this particular walk, we will be walking through Richmond Park. This is not only a royal Park but the lands and atmosphere are so beautiful. What contributes to the beauty are the deers and the horses that gives it that farm/forest aura. After this walk, we will be heading to ‘Venchi’ for Ice cream and chocolates if you wish. ‘Venchi’ began over 145 years ago through the experimentation of chocolate and over the years, they’ve not expanded on their creativity with gelato too but also share their creations in over 70 countries. Come lets go with the flow on this classic winter 8 to 9 mile Thames Path walk ! Train to catch : 10.36am from Waterloo that arrives at Hampton Court train station at 11.12am using your Oyster card. Or you may decide to drive. Please bring packed lunch, waterproof jacket, walking shoes boots or trainers as well as water and snacks etc. Walk shall start at 11.30am. We shall have lunch anywhere you fancy in Kingston and then we shall reconvene by the Boaters Inn pub in Canbury Gardens to start the walk to Richmond. Richmond has many pubs and cafes that we may decide to frequent at the end of the walk. Visit places you would not normally have a reason to come to. **WALK START POINT: Battersea Power Station (Northern Line)** WALK ROUTE: See the fashionable shops of the new Battersea Retail Development and contrast with the greenery and nature of Battersea Park, and the serenity of the Thames, before finishing the walk in a large pub close to Putney Stations. Our walks are not interrupted with running commentaries or historical lectures, although occasionally features of significance may be pointed out. As such our walks will be continuous with few stops and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk. *All our walks always end with a social event at a great value pub. Be sure to join us afterwards in the pub for a drink and/or meal for the whole friendly experience.* RISKS for all walks: Please dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for four miles without a break. In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths alongside water, other public paths, rights of way, bridlepaths, country lanes and other established paths and tracks through woodland, bush and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, preferably walking boots and take care as surfaces may be uneven, tree roots may protrude, there may be low overhanging branches and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists and sometimes cars (country lanes). Some tracks may be muddy and slippery. On occasion wild,domestic and farm animals may also encountered. If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself. No large dogs or small children please. Please arrive in good time to allow opportunity to use toilets at the start of the walk as there may not be any toilet breaks available during the walk. **History** The Columbus Museum of Art traces its roots to 1878, when it was founded as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, becoming the first art museum chartered in Ohio. A group of civic leaders established it to bring touring exhibitions and build a public collection. In 1887, it merged with the Columbus Art School (now CCAD) fostering a long partnership in arts education. Initially without a permanent home, the museum operated from temporary spaces until 1919, when art patron Francis C. Sessions deeded his Victorian mansion on East Broad Street to house the growing institution. As collections expanded in the early 20th century, the need for a dedicated building became clear. The Sessions mansion was demolished, and a new Italian Renaissance Revival structure was erected on the same site, opening to the public in 1931. This elegant building, with its grand steps and arches, remains the museum's core today and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Columbus's art museum is not large, and we won't need to rush through in order to see everything. However, it's a little windy (with a long "i") and maze-like in spots, and if you've never gone through it before, it can be a little confusing at first. **Tickets and Pricing** The Museum is free on Sundays. **Parking** The short answer here is that you can park for free (in the Safe Auto lot) when you visit the Museum on weekends. Once this upgrade is complete, though, the charge is likely to increase from $7 to $10. This upgrade is supposed to be done by the time we run this event, but given how these things work, I wouldn't be totally surprised if it's not complete by then. You'll know the lot is free if the gate arms to both the entrance and exit are fixed in a raised position when you arrive. However, there's a large parking lot for Safe Auto on the other side of N Washington Ave, between Boone St and Hutton Pl. The bigger issue may be the weather. The brewery has a good-sized outdoor patio that is covered and heated in the winter. However, that doesn't mean this patio will be warm. The inside of the brewery is "okay-sized," but again, the brewery is popular and by the time we get there, we may have no choice but to sit outside. If it's cold, I can and will ask them to fire up some of their additional outdoor heaters, which I think should be enough, but please bring something to keep you warm just in case we end up outside. Finally, while food at the Biergarten can be a little overpriced, in my experience it is excellent, and you are likely to enjoy whatever you get. We should be there by 1:00 if you can't make the Museum and just want to meet us for drinks.
