Unbroken Light! Art Exhibition
Unbroken Light! Art Exhibition
Unbroken Light is an exhibition organised by Yesense CIC at Swiss Cottage Library, bringing together paintings and sculptures by artists from Ukraine The exhibition explores humanity, memory, courage and the quiet inner light that can survive even in the darkest moments of war. It is about what remains unbroken inside a person, a family, a community and a culture when life is changed by loss, displacement and uncertainty **The opening event will take place on Tuesday 16 June at 4pm** During the opening, guests will be able to meet the artists, hear them speak about their work and experience a music programme. The opening will also include a free symbolic creative session, Metaphorical Balls, led by Mariia Bezusa and doodling led by Alona Kushnirenko. Through simple creative exercises, metaphor and storytelling, participants will be invited to explore their own reflections and create small personal fairy tales inspired by colour, shape and imagination No artistic experience is needed. This session is about creativity, self expression and gentle personal reflection, not about making something perfect Everyone is welcome. We will be glad to see people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures. You can come to look, listen, take part, speak with the artists or simply spend time in a warm and thoughtful creative space Organised by Yesense CIC This event is free to attend, but booking is recommended For any questions, please feel free to contact us by email at info@yesense.co.uk

REJECTS 2026 art exhibition then a walk through the Portobello market
REJECTS 2026 art exhibition then a walk through the Portobello market
**Celebrate the art that almost made it.** 🥁 This Meetup takes us to REJECTS, a unique exhibition showcasing outstanding artworks that didn’t make it into this year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Featuring painting, sculpture, photography, textiles and mixed media, the show shines a spotlight on talented artists whose work deserves to be seen, sparking a fascinating conversation about creativity, recognition and who gets to decide what makes the cut. 🎨 Set inside a charming former bakery on Portobello Road, the exhibition offers the chance to discover bold, thought-provoking works by both emerging and established artists - and perhaps find a few pieces you think the judges got wrong. [Admission is free but a ticket is required. Please book here for Saturday 20th June. ](https://www.ticketsource.com/booking/select/vxmwlmadaddq) **We will meet at The Bakery: Artist-run Gallery - 82D Portobello Road, London, W11 2QD, England** [More info about the exhibition here.](https://www.ticketsource.com/art-friend/rejects-2026-general-admission/2026-06-20/10:00/t-zooedox) ☕️ After the exhibition, we’ll take a relaxed stroll through the famous Portobello Market, where those who wish can stop for coffee, drinks, pastries or a bite to eat while continuing the conversation and enjoying one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. Everyone welcome 🙂 Important to note: 1. We typically socialise at cafés after the exhibit, nice, independent ones, not chains and not at pubs. If the event is late on a Saturday we go to a nice bar/pub for drinks after. This meetup is inclusive and everyone is welcome to join. 2. If you get there and you’re not sure what to do or where we are, post a comment on here and I will let you know our whereabouts. 3. Once we go in we may separate, feel free to explore the exhibit by yourself, we don’t have to be together. Some people like chatting to others while exploring and other people prefer to be with their own thoughts. You are welcome to express yourself and do what feels most comfortable. 4. If you are late or if you’ve booked for an earlier or later time don’t worry just go in and you’ll find us inside. Keep an eye on the comments as I’ll be posting updates.

Messy Is Welcome — Picnic & Acrylic Flow (First Session)
**Messy Is Welcome** — *Picnic & Acrylic Flow (First Session)* This is the first relaxed creative picnic in the Leyton / Hackney area — a simple pilot gathering to see how it feels together. Bring a blanket, a drink, and whatever you like. I’ll bring all art materials, including acrylic paints and paper. This is a very informal, go-with-the-flow session. You can paint, draw, make marks, scribbles or shapes — or just sit, observe and relax. Even a single dot on the page counts. **No art skills needed at all.** £5 ticket for materials. (Cash only) If the weather is good, we’ll stay in the park. If not, we’ll move to a nearby pub or indoor space. Optional afterwards: a relaxed walk along the Hackney Wick canal. Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Can Artificial Intelligence “See”?
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Can Artificial Intelligence “See”?
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Can Artificial Intelligence ‘See’?”** A look at how humans and artificial intelligence systems interpret the visual world in fundamentally different ways, with Arryn Robbins, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Richmond and cognitive scientist who researches visual attention, perception, and category learning. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-can-AI-see](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-can-AI-see) .] Artificial intelligence can now identify faces, categorize objects, describe scenes, and outperform humans on certain visual tasks. But does AI actually “see” the world the way that people do? Or does it arrive at correct answers using representations that differ markedly from human perception? Join Arryn Robbins of the University of Richmond for a fascinating exploration of how humans and AI construct meaning from visual information and a look at comparisons between human perception and AI that reveal just how dynamic and context-dependent our own visual systems really are. Dr. Robbins, who previously has given excellent Profs and Pints talks on flaws and biases in human visual perception, will draw from research in cognitive science, visual perception, and AI vision systems. She’ll explain how human perception is not merely a simple recording of the world, but an active process shaped by expectations, context, goals, and recent experience. You’ll learn how humans form flexible mental representations that allow us to recognize objects across changing environments and conditions, and why those representations continuously adapt as we interact with the world. Many AI systems, by contrast, learn visual categories through statistical patterns in data. They can produce impressive results, but sometimes they also produce strange and unexpected failures, and sometimes they classify images in ways that seem strange to us. Dr. Robbins will discuss what these differences reveal about the nature of perception itself, and why the mismatch between human and AI representations matters for technologies like self-driving cars, medical imaging, facial recognition, and automated surveillance. Important for anyone trying to understand the rapidly growing role of AI in daily life, this talk will explore one of the biggest questions in cognitive science and artificial intelligence: What does it actually mean to “see” and understand the world? (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: “Eye Farm” by Nevit Dilmen (Wikimedia Commons).
