For humans, singing is not just a creative expression; it is a path to transcendence, a bridge between the mundane and the divine. The Voice, our most intimate and sacred instrument, resonates with ancestral echoes. Since time immemorial, it has been used in healing rituals, as a channel for spiritual connection, and a key to higher states of consciousness. When we sing with sacred intention, breath, mind, and heart merge into a harmonious flow that transports us to deep peace and a precious state of contemplation. Sacred singing opens an inner space of living silence, where vibration becomes a healing dance that harmonises our being. Fermentation and Pickling as Culinary and Cultural Practice: Exploring Koryo Saram Cuisine and Intangible Heritage with Tobias Stefan (HU Berlin) Join us for a Fermenta Collective workshop that delves into fermentation not only as a culinary technique, but also as a form of intangible cultural heritage. This session places a special focus on Koryo Saram cuisine - the food traditions of the Korean diaspora community in Central Asia, formed largely through the forced deportations of Koreans within the Soviet Union in 1937. Koryo Saram foodways have evolved in unique ways, distinct from contemporary Korean cuisine on the peninsula. Through generations, communities adapted their culinary practices to Central Asian tastes, ingredients, and environments. In this workshop, we will explore these traditions through practice and conversation: • Learn about the history and everyday cultural significance of Koryo Saram cuisine, with insights from Tobias’ doctoral research in social and cultural anthropology focusing on Koryo Saram heritage in Uzbekistan • Prepare morkovcha, the iconic Koryo Saram carrot salad - often referred to as Koryo Saram carrot kimchi • Make our own chimchi, a Koryo Saram version of kimchi to take home • Enjoy our dishes alongside staples of Central Asian cuisine As someone with family roots in Central Asia, Tobias is looking forward to sharing not only techniques and recipes, but also the personal and historical stories that make Koryo Saram food a rich expression of intangible cultural heritage.

Bold Penguin - 6555 Longshore St, Dublin, OH 43017 \*\*\*** Ryan Carroll **Local AI in Rails: Fast, Cheap, and Predictable** Rails apps usually reach for external AI services when they need “intelligence,” but that approach can bring latency, cost, and unpredictability along for the ride. This talk shows a different path: running a Japanese sentiment model directly inside a Rails app, using ONNX Runtime, background jobs, and real-time updates to keep the user experience fast and responsive. Using a small app called **Sentiment Omikuji** as the case study, the talk walks through how the model was trained in Python, exported to ONNX, and loaded into Ruby for local inference. It also covers how Japanese text is tokenized, how the sentiment output drives a fortune generator, and why the app uses Solid Queue to keep model work off the request path. Along the way, the talk explores the tradeoffs of local inference versus API-based LLMs, and why classic machine learning can still be the right tool for focused problems. The Alliance is part of the Greater Central Ohio Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We are an all-voices chorus dedicated to providing an inclusive environment for all those who love to sing, regardless of their race, gender identity, sexual orientation or musical background.
