Coffee shop meetup. No events until there is a replacement host.
Sorry, no events UFN until a stand-in host is found to temporarily host this event on Mondays and Thursdays (see message to members 24 -8-2021). ................A nice coffee shop near Oxford Circus for the group's twice a week coffee shop meetup when there's a host to host the event. Any questions my phone number is 07706964277 or email ysi240@yahoo.com ...........Bill (organiser)
Again, sorry no events until a stand in host is found as I'm still temporarily not living in London.
No membership fees for this group by the way and all events free.
Party Girl (1995) - FREE SCREENING
Parker Posey has mostly been known for livening up a range of movies in supporting roles, but Party Girl is the rare example of her being given the lead - and running with it. This is basically a fun, colourful mid-90s romcom with an outrageous fashion sense and a cult following. How many movies *are* there about librarians, after all?
Posey plays Mary, a New York socialite who spends all her time partying until she gets arrested for putting on an illegal rave. The punishment turns out to be community service as a library clerk, which helps her learn a bit more about responsibility and the wider world as she begins a relationship with a Lebanese food vendor.
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y-TvmzQ8qA
This is showing at New Cross Learning Centre, which pretty much is a library, as part of the New Cross and Deptford Free Film Festival\*. That means you don't have to book a ticket, but you do have to arrive early because these can be hard to get into. Doors open at 6.30pm so let's get there just before that. We can grab a pint around the corner afterwards.
\*It's a killer lineup this year too. The full programme, which includes True Stories, When We Were Kings, Shallow Grave, Buena Vista Social Club and Showgirls, is available [here](https://freefilmfestivals.org/whats-on/?view=cal).

Wine Not? (Women Only)
Wine Not? is a women-only gathering before the Balancers Saturday social.
Most attendees come solo, so it’s an easy and welcoming place to meet people and settle in before the night gets busier.
London can make meeting new people feel awkward, especially if you're coming alone. This early social creates a comfortable environment where you can chat, laugh, and get to know a few friendly faces first.
Expect a relaxed atmosphere, a few light games, and plenty of time to connect naturally.
At **7.30 pm the main Balancers social begins**, and the room fills as over **150 people usually join the night**.
Wine Not? naturally flows into the rest of the evening, so you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the full experience.
Coming solo is completely normal. Our hosts will be there to help everyone feel comfortable, included, and connected from the start.

All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 137 / Fight Club
Fight Club is a 1999 American film directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter. It is based on the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahniuk. Norton plays the unnamed narrator, who is discontented with his white-collar job. He forms a "fight club" with a soap salesman, Tyler Durden (Pitt), and becomes embroiled with an impoverished but beguiling woman, Marla Singer (Bonham Carter). The film failed to meet the studio's expectations at the box office and polarized critics. It was ranked as one of the most controversial and talked-about films of the 1990s. However, Fight Club later found commercial success with its home video release, establishing it as a cult classic and causing media to revisit the film. In 2009, on its tenth anniversary, The New York Times dubbed it the "defining cult movie of our time"
Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening.
We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema.

Learning to Be Kind to Yourself: mindfulness and self-compassion for gay men
An **8-week Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course** \- take a deeper\, more sustained exploration of how mindfulness can support mental health\, wellbeing\, and everyday life\.
MBCT offers a practical and compassionate approach to working with stress, anxiety, low mood, and self-critical thinking. Rather than trying to “fix” our thoughts or emotions, the course helps us develop a different relationship with them — one grounded in awareness, kindness, and choice.
This 8-week MBCT course is designed for gay men who want a grounded, practical way to work with stress, anxiety, low mood, self-criticism, or a sense of always having to “hold it together”. Join us in a structured, supportive journey into mindfulness, self-care, and emotional resilience.
Many gay men grow up adapting to environments where it wasn’t always safe to be fully ourselves. Over time, this can shape how we relate to our thoughts, bodies, emotions, and relationships — often leading to vigilance, comparison, shame, or feeling disconnected even when surrounded by others.
This course offers a compassionate, evidence-based way of meeting these patterns with awareness and kindness, rather than self-judgement or self-improvement pressure.
“This course gave me tools to stop being overwhelmed by my thoughts and emotions. It’s the single most impactful thing I’ve done for my mental health.” — Marie

[BOOK AUTUMN COURSE](https://bookwhen.com/evolvingminds#focus=ev-svamz-20261007190000)
**How the course works**
We meet in a small, closed group of up to 14 gay men, allowing trust, continuity, and depth to develop over time. Once the course begins, no new members join. The group format is an important part of the learning — many participants find that practising alongside other gay men brings a sense of ease, recognition, and belonging.
Learning unfolds through guided meditation, gentle movement, reflection, and shared inquiry. We learn from the practices, and from one another.
Unlike drop-in mindfulness sessions, this course follows a clear, progressive structure, with each week building on the last. By the end of the eight weeks, you’ll have a personal toolkit of practices you can draw on in everyday life — especially during moments of stress, self-criticism, or emotional overwhelm.
**What you’ll explore:**
* Becoming more present through the body and senses
* Working skillfully with intrusive or self-critical thoughts
* Developing a kinder, more supportive inner voice
* Turning towards difficulty rather than fighting or avoiding it
* Living more fully in the present moment
* Cultivating steadiness, ease, and emotional resilience
**Core practices include:**
* Body scan
* Mindfulness of breath and body
* Loving-kindness
* Compassion and self-acceptance
(Many familiar from the Monday group, explored in greater depth.)
**Is this course right for you?**
This course may be especially supportive if you:
* Feel stressed, anxious, low, or emotionally overwhelmed
* Notice strong self-criticism or pressure to perform
* Want a mindfulness course that feels human, grounded, and relational
* Value practising in a group of other gay men
* Are looking for tools you can actually use in daily life
No previous meditation experience is required.
The course is based on the internationally recognised MBCT programme developed at Oxford University, taught here with a compassion-centred, trauma-aware approach, and paced to support safety and integration. There is no requirement to “share” beyond what feels right for you.

Disc Tues / BAFTA Winner: I SWEAR at Marcus Crosswoods!
Join us as we get together to see the BAFTA-winning British biographical dark-comedy/drama, I SWEAR! The film is based on the true-life story of a Scottish man diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome at an early age. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPITON: This true-life story follows a Scottish man diagnosed with Tourette's at 15. Targeted as 'insane' by his peers, he struggled with a condition few had witnessed. In search of his life’s purpose, he began campaigning for better understanding and acceptance of the condition of Tourette's as an adult.
The film is written/directed/produced by Kirk Jones and stars Robert Aramayo, Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson and Peter Mullan.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeWqQN3snCU
BUZZ & ACCLAIM: I Swear currently has an incredible 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which says: “A deft balance of prickly and sweet that's bound together by Robert Aramayo's knockout performance, I Swear doesn't sugarcoat the challenges of Tourette syndrome while delivering an uplifting tale of resilience.” Others call it, “"funny, fierce and full of heart!” The film was released earlier in the UK making it eligible for this year’s BAFTA’s where it won Best Casting and Best Lead Actor for Robert Aramayo. The film and Robert Aramayo's performance will be eligible for next year’s Oscars!
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the bar area about 30 minutes before showtime! Once details are confirmed, advance ticket purchase is advised! Details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Should be a good one, Dan
Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Columbus, Ohio
From birth, human beings are learning. Before we are able to hold concrete memories, we are being shaped and impacted by everything about our lives and situations. From the point that we become capable of cognizant thought and memory, our lives could be summed up as a series of our responses to our circumstances, whether for good or for ill.
Dr. Joe Dispenza sees a deep need for human beings to live *on purpose*. Rather than just living life in reaction mode, he challenges people to live intentionally, to seek to change the negative that we have encountered and to pursue the positive through purposeful steps in a different and healthy direction. His study and work seek to demonstrate the changes that can be made from the inside out.
Join us as we take a look at new ways to grow at **6:30 pm,** **Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at True Food Kitchen, Easton Town Center, Columbus**.
