We're partnering with our pals at [Friends of Elysian Park](www.elysianpark.org) for a morning of outdoor drawing at the test plot at [Marian Harlow Memorial Grove](https://maps.app.goo.gl/mq5AojrVRy9cf1dX8) in Elysian Park on Saturday October 24th 9am-11am. **Info:** All ages and skill levels welcomed. Sessions are unguided and creative exploration is encouraged. **What to bring:** Limited supplies will be provide but guests are encouraged to bring their own preferred mediums. The area is well shaded but bringing sun protection is encouraged. We suggest brining a blanket to sit on, sunscreen and water to stay hydrated. **Getting there:** Park along the end of Park Dr where it meets Avaon Park Terrace- Along the edge of the road there is a staircase leading down to the trail. We will be stationed by the dog watering station. **Whether it’s a piece of fine art or the work of a craftsperson or an artisan, where does the inspiration to make art, to create, come from? Is art solely a product of the material world, or is it sometimes also somehow connected to something greater than us, to a higher power, able not only to entertain us, but to drive us to be better?** **Art has a unique ability to inspire and uplift us, to teach us and help us understand the world around us, to help us heal and bring us together. But what is it – and who gets to make it? Is it solely the domain of a select few, or is the ability to create, to inspire, to bring beauty and healing to this world something that we all have the ability to do?** **The word “inspiration” comes from the Latin word inspirare meaning “to breathe into,” or even to give life to. Though understood in many different ways and called by different names, as the first maker, the first creator, is that not what God has done with us? And if we are, as some believe, created in God’s image, then are we not also creators who can do the same – or at least have the capacity to be? Is this another spiritual quality for us to develop and reflect in this world? By not recognizing and developing this capacity, are we neglecting an entire part of ourselves, a part that connects us to each other and to something greater than ourselves? We will be located at the pin on the map in this event page. This class is open to all skill levels. A great way to meet other people interested in Martial arts, as well as getting some exercise and learning an excellent weapon based martial art. We start you with weapons (sticks) to use in class the first day. Eskrima is a Filipino Martial Art and a very effective self-defense art. If you've trained before, come out, if you've never trained in Filipino martial arts (Serrada Eskrima), it's a great new art that could be a stand alone art, or could compliment any other martial arts out there. We teach techniques that range from sticks to knife, to empty hand, improvised weapons and well as many other techniques. Once the student has the basics down he or she can easily transition to improvised weapons. If you have sticks bring them. If not, we have plenty to lend out. Wear loose workout clothes and bring some water to stay hydrated.
