Sketch the Streets of Chinatown!

Let's meet in Columbus Park and then venture around to sketch the colorful streets of Chinatown: Doyers, Pell, Mott. There won't be much sitting room available for this one, so we can stand, or if you have a folding art chair, bring it. **We'll meet by the pavilion in Columbus Park.** Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at 646-831-9816. The Seaport!

The moment you've been waiting for has arrived. It's finally nice enough to go urban sketching outdoors! You like drawing people? Architecture? Cars? Squirrels? Awesome! We'll go to a spot and you'll draw whatever you want. Hopefully you'll make friends! Bring your own materials and a friendly mellow vibe. Pen and Ink? Sure. Watercolor? Gouache? Heck yeah. Good old fashioned pencil? Why not. iPad? Do it. The meetup is free!

Painting 10th Ave

In the 1800s, Tenth Avenue was known as Death Avenue thanks to the at-grade freight railway. In the 1900s, Robert Moses took that railway off of the street and elevated it through the middle of the block instead (being a force of demolition even when saving lives). In the 2000s, the abandoned railway was transmogrified into the High Line. Our meeting point will be at 11am in the little sidewalk park at the northwest corner of W17th and 10th Ave. Check in with me on-site so I know who's attending, and then we'll disperse to our individual painting spots. At 2pm, we'll meet back up to show off our art and discuss the day. Gather your materials (watercolor, oils, gouache, acrylics, marker: all are welcome) and join with other artists for the joys and challenges of painting outside!

Sketch Prospect Park's Fall Leaves!

NOTE EARLIER TIME! It's been 4 years since we've sketched in Prospect Park, and fall is the perfect time. Let's explore the forests and sketch the beautiful fall colors. Grab your pad and drawing tools and escape the world for a couple of hours with your friends at The Old Stone House Park! Draw the human figure! Join us for a 2 1/2 hour life drawing session, 1 & 1/2 hour of gestures and short poses, ending with 1 hour of long poses, give or take. Bring your tools (no acrylics, oils or sprays please). Free interactive workshop: Nature studies through sketching

Join us for a 2-hour, beginner-friendly sketching workshop in the **Brooklyn Botanic Gardens (BBG)** past the ticket check of the ***455 Flatbush Ave entrance*** (corner of Flatbush Ave & Empire Blvd). *Please be sure to use this address in your maps app if you need directions.* Led by local artist Anna Balk, we’ll practice observing and recording plant forms through quick silhouette exercises, visual studies, and two guided drawing sessions. Throughout, we’ll talk about what we’re seeing and sketching. *Subject to favorable weather conditions (in the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be rescheduled).* NOTE: *The workshop is free, but **participants are responsible for** getting Brooklyn Botanical Gardens **admission** and bringing their own **workshop supplies.*** **Workshop supplies:** Please bring * a pencil, * sturdy paper or sketchbook (something you can write and draw on without the need for additional surfaces), and * an eraser. Participants should be: * **18+** years of age (children aged 12 to 17 are welcome if they’re accompanied by an adult who can supervise them during the workshop) * Able to communicate in **English** * Prepared to **move around** the garden for 2 hours and **stand for short intervals** (up to 30 min) as portable seats other than wheelchairs aren’t permitted – the garden is mostly wheelchair accessible and accessible routes will be used as needed Expect mindful observation, practical technique tips, and at least two completed study sketches among the blooms and autumnal foliage. The event is limited to **10 attendees**.
