The East Side Coastal Resiliency Project is a huge initiative that's redesigning the whole east side of lower Manhattan. It's to prevent storm flooding, but it's also giving us refurbished parks. Part of it is now open - let's meet up and sketch it together! **We'll meet at the entrance to Corlears Hook Park, at the corner of Jackson St and Cherry St, in the Lower East Side, Manhattan.** Then we'll walk across the FDR together (don't worry, there's a bridge) into the park to draw. Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at 646-831-9816. Sketch Sutton Place Park!

Sutton Place Park is beautiful, quiet, and out-of-the-way. Broadway, Tip to Top: Times Square

*Welcome to the 2026 Broadway: Tip to Top series! We've begun at the very beginning, at the tip of Manhattan, and we'll progress up the island using Broadway as our path. By the end of Fall, we'll finish in Van Cortlandt Park, where Broadway continues into Yonkers but we will not; I have my limits, and one is the city limit!* This weekend's location is Times Square, except thankfully not really... we'll be meeting at 50th and Broadway! It's just north enough to avoid the chaos of deep Times Square while still having that vibe. Our meeting point will be in Paramount Plaza, at the northwest corner of the intersection with Broadway. Check in with me on-site so I know who's attending, and then we'll disperse to our individual painting spots. At 2pm, we'll meet back up to show off our art and discuss the day. Gather your materials (watercolor, oils, gouache, acrylics, marker: all are welcome) and join with other artists for the joys and challenges of painting outside!

Introduction to Drawing for Beginners (3 Sessions) with Simon

Do not worry if you don’t know how to draw. This class is specifically designed for you. This class is for you even if you have drawn a bit but want an organized approach to drawing to speed up the learning process and prevent wasted and frustrating efforts. CLASS SCHEDULE: Thursdays, May 28, June 4 and 11. The ticket price includes all three dates. Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing, including paper and pencil basics, how to use shape and form to create depth, measuring and proportion, and rendering form with shade. What we will cover: Session One: We will learn how to draw the 3-dimensional world on a 2-dimensional surface using and enhancing basic forms. Session Two: We will learn how to use proportion in our drawings while adding a more thoughtful approach to our pencil abilities. Session Three: We will learn shading concepts and create a well-formed, proportioned, shaded drawing. Paper: We will examine the difference between Sketch and Drawing paper, smooth and rough surfaces, and those designed for pencils vs. charcoal. Pencils: Students will learn about the different grades of pencils and how to use them to create more effective drawings. We will practice cross-hatching and shading with pencil “washes.” Erasers: Using both kneaded and plastic erasers, students will create different drawing effects in their drawings. Instructed Figure Drawing

All levels are welcome. In this class, we will focus on figure drawing and various drawing techniques. We begin with a short discussion/demo of different approaches to drawing. There is a live model for each session. Please bring a pad up to 18×24, a 2H, HB, and 4B pencil, and an eraser. **[If you don't know what to bring we recommend the following supplies](https://amzn.to/47VCpaE)**. This uninstructed session begins with short poses for attendees to warm up. The longest poses are 20 minutes. We take a 5-minute break every 20 minutes. There are cookies and fresh water available. We listen to music while we work. Please bring your supplies (we have limited supplies to lend out). Looking forward to seeing you! PLEASE NOTE: * We can not accommodate dry pastels (for health reasons), open ink containers, or paint other than watercolor. * Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the moderator to prevent disruption to other artists. * Because of the limited space, we can not offer any refunds for the session.
