This pitch night sets the tone for the year ahead and leads directly into the next iteration of **The Ascent Project**, Australia’s largest coordinated effort to fund and empower female founders. The last Ascent cohort did far more than just participate. They achieved and then some. They raised capital. They won awards. They entered accelerators. They built real traction. This pitch night is the front door. *** ## **Who should be in the room** **Female founders** * Apply to pitch if you’re building a startup and ready to put it in front of the ecosystem. * Attend if you want to learn, connect, and see what’s possible when women back women. **Investors, operators, and ecosystem supporters** * Come to discover talent early. * Come to listen. * Come to back what matters. *** ## **What you get from attending** * Live pitches from female founders building ambitious companies * Direct exposure to founders ahead of the next Ascent Project cohort * Connection with Australia’s startup ecosystem in a focused, high-signal environment * A clear view of where Fishburners is taking its platform in 2026 *** ## **Event details** **Date:** February 26, 2026 **Time:** 6:00 – 9:00pm **Location:** The Collider, 477 Pitt Street, Sydney *** ## **What to do next** * **Female founders:** [Register and apply to pitch.](https://airtable.com/appM3HBc3eoPUC7xv/pagFa5ESY38lwaOAW/form) * **Supporters and investors:** Register and be in the room. * **Everyone:** Share this with a founder who should be on stage. This is not a side event. This is the opening statement. We’ll see you there.

Talks Talk 1: How to use Gemini to search and bag your first or next tech job In this era of AI and agents, to stay ahead of the competition in this difficult job market, you must leverage AI tools, even for your job search and interview preparation. While you should not use AI to cheat in the interview, you should use it to search for and find the right roles and to research the company, so you can better prepare yourself and increase your chances of getting the job offer. In this talk, you will learn how to use Gemini and other tools that use Gemini in the background to get a fair advantage when you search for your first or next tech job. You will also learn more about the hiring process and interview stages, and get useful tips to help your application move into the top 20% of applicants. In this demo-filled talk, you will pick up how to use Gemini deep research, guided learning, live share (for on-demand interview preparation), and Notebook LM to your advantage. Be smart: let AI (Gemini) do the hard work so you can get the desired outcome without outsourcing the thinking. What you’ll learn: Gemini Deep Research: How to use Gemini to sniff out the roles that actually fit your stack. The Power of NotebookLM: Organizing your interview prep and research about the company. Live Share: Using AI as a mock interviewer that actually gives helpful feedback. Guided Learning: learning something step by step in bite-sized pieces The Golden Rule: Let AI handle the heavy lifting and data crunching, but never outsource the actual thinking. Navigating Difficult Conversations - A Repeatable Framework (Online) - CLOSED
Tue, Feb 24, 6:00 AM**Navigating Difficult Conversations - A Repeatable Framework (REGISTRATIONS CLOSED - New Dates TBA)** This professional development workshop supports HR professionals, People & Culture teams, business owners, managers and people leaders to strengthen how they approach difficult workplace conversations using a clear, repeatable framework. The workshop introduces a structured method for preparing, conducting and reflecting on difficult conversations at work. The framework can be applied across a wide range of workplace situations and refined over time as participants build experience and confidence. Rather than relying on instinct, personality or a single communication technique, the framework provides a consistent foundation that can be adapted to different people, roles and contexts. This reduces inconsistency and uncertainty while supporting effective communication and psychosocial safety in the workplace. Participants explore why similar workplace issues can result in very different outcomes depending on how conversations are approached. Through facilitated discussion and real-world examples, the workshop examines what has been shown to work in practice and where conversations can unintentionally escalate. During the workshop, participants apply the framework to a real difficult conversation they are preparing for, or reflect on a conversation that has already occurred. While the focus is on workplace situations, the framework is transferable and may also be applied to other high-stakes conversations where clarity, respect and accountability matter. The emphasis throughout is on building practical communication capability, equipping participants with an approach they can adapt to their own style and draw on when managing people or supporting others through challenging conversations. This approach is particularly valuable for HR resources and in workplaces without a dedicated HR function, where managers and business owners are often required to navigate difficult conversations alongside other responsibilities. **About the presenter:** This workshop is presented by Phyllis Peterson, a lawyer and accredited workplace mediator with over 25 years experience supporting people and organisations across Australia through difficult conversations, conflict escalation and psychosocial risk matters in diverse workplace settings. The session includes live Q&A. **Learning outcomes:** \- Understand the relationship between difficult conversations and change\, including how conversations form part of broader workplace change processes\. \- Identify when a conversation is a difficult conversation\, including recognising common challenges that arise in people management discussions\. \- Understand why preparation and strategy matter when approaching difficult workplace conversations\. \- Apply a repeatable\, step\-by\-step framework to prepare for difficult conversations in a structured and consistent way\. \- Approach difficult conversations with greater confidence and clarity\, supporting fairness\, consistency and appropriate documentation discipline\. \- Identify considerations relating to the pros and cons of having a difficult conversation\, including whether and when a conversation should occur\. \- Identify factors that can influence how a difficult conversation unfolds\, including context\, timing and roles\. \- Understand how triggers and escalation risks can affect workplace conversations\. \- Apply the repeatable framework to prepare for a real difficult workplace conversation\." **What you will take away:** \- A practical\, repeatable framework for difficult workplace conversations \- Greater awareness of triggers and escalation risks \- Clear guidance on how to prepare for difficult conversations \- Increased confidence when addressing sensitive issues \- Greater clarity about whether and when to have a difficult conversation **Who Should Attend:** This workshop is suitable for people who regularly need to navigate difficult workplace conversations, including: \- HR Managers and Senior HR Advisors \- People & Culture Leaders and HR Business Partners \- Business owners and SME leaders \- Managers and supervisors with people responsibility \- Team leaders and emerging leaders \- Workplace relations and employee relations practitioners \- WHS and psychosocial risk stakeholders In addition to HR, the workshop is designed for people who manage workplace issues as part of their role, including business owners and managers who are balancing HR responsibilities alongside their core work. No formal HR background is required. **CPD Information:** \- 2\.0 structured learning hours Suggested competency areas this workshop supports: \- Effective workplace communication and feedback \- Managing difficult conversations and conflict \- Coaching and supporting managers and people leaders \- Psychosocial safety awareness and risk reduction \- Structured approaches to people management conversations **Certificate:** Participants receive a Certificate of Completion upon attending the full workshop.
