4.7

Join us at our vegan-friendly social climbing session! We welcome all vegans, vegetarians, or anyone who is curious about the lifestyle and/or interested in eating more plant-based. No climbing experience is necessary. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-time climber, all are welcome. We will be bouldering, top roping, and using autobelays - feel free to join whichever activity you're interested in! For those who are climbing for the first time, not to worry as it is quick to pick up and we are happy to provide some pointers on technique. You can boulder or use the autobelays after getting a quick orientation from the staff at the gym. For top roping, we're happy to belay any of our attendees. **Fees**: * $28 admission fee, plus rentals Climbing shoes are strongly recommended (disclaimer: rental shoes are not vegan as they contain suede/leather). Harnesses are only necessary for top roping and autobelay, however this gym is primarily a rope climbing gym. * Shoe rental: $7.00 * Harness rental: $7.00 Remember to sign the [waiver](https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/5f121ea156df1/web/) before you hit the rocks! You can sign the waiver online or in person once you arrive. Make sure to arrive at the Bloor location, there are multiple Basecamp locations! Happy climbing! 🧗‍♂️🌱 Note: Clean indoor shoes are allowed to be worn, however we highly recommend using climbing shoes otherwise your experience will be negatively impacted.

Caves, Cliffs, and Crevices: The Duncan Caves Loop

Caves, Cliffs, and Crevices: The Duncan Caves Loop

Sat, Sep 12, 11:30 AM
From Wilderness Union Toronto - Outdoor Adventure and Hiking Club
4.7

**Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/duncan-caves)** **Join us as we head to the Duncan escarpment to explore some incredible ‘crevice’ or ‘fracture’ caves, created over thousands of years through a mixture of glacial movement, extreme temperatures and the raw force of gravity.** We start the hike through open farmland and meadow before the ground tilts up and we climb onto the escarpment itself. From there, most of the day is spent walking along the escarpment and through the forest that grows right up to the cliff edge and spill over its exposed rock. We will then descend into the caves, with some being over 30 metres deep. You will be scrambling in some places, working your way down and through one of the more unique pieces of trail anywhere in Ontario. From the caves, the trail climbs back along the escarpment edge through mature forest, with a stretch of cliff top that opens up into views out over the valley below. We drop back down and loop through the same mix of field and forest that opened the day. **Parking is extremely limited at the trailhead, so we recommend taking transport for this adventure.** ‍ **Accessibility** Wilderness Union is committed to making our adventures as accessible as possible. If you wish to make an accommodation request relating to a disability or provide feedback, please do so by sending an email to [info@wildernessunion.com](mailto:info@wildernessunion.com) **Highlights** **The Crevice Caves:** A gorge over 30 metres deep, formed by rock shifting off the escarpment face. **Cliff Top Views:** A stretch of trail along the escarpment edge showing off open views over the valley. **Farmland to Forest:** Open farm fields give way straight into escarpment forest. **Event cost: $60+HST (for explorer members) - $40 optional transport available.** **Register [here.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/duncan-caves)** **About Wilderness Union** Wilderness Union is deliberate about building an outdoors community that connects you to the life-changing magic of the outdoors and helps you find your people. Members range from 20-40 years old. The group is a mix of GTA locals and newcomers to Toronto from within Canada and abroad. Attendance numbers on Meetup don't reflect our actual event attendance - we typically have 15-20 community members at each event. Large enough that there's someone new to meet but small enough that it's not overwhelming! ***Learn more at our website [www.wildernessunion.com](https://www.wildernessunion.com/)***
