Kim's Gym - sport climbing

Kim's Gym - sport climbing

🧗‍♂️ Kim’s Gym Before we dive into how amazing Kim's Gym Is please please send me a text at **415=401-5809** so I can add you to our meetup planning and coordination chat so we can do intros, audit who has gear, carpools and more. When you text just let me know your name and names of any vistors you want to bring! Hey climbers — I’m excited to meet those I haven’t met yet and climb again with those I have. We’ve got nine people confirmed so far, and I can take up to three more. If you know anyone who’d be a good fit, let me know and I’ll add them to the chat. *** 🪨 About Kim’s Gym Kim’s Gym (aka Kym’s Gym) sits right between Steep Ravine (The Egg) and Emperor Boulder, offering a compact zone with about a dozen bolted routes. It’s a beautiful coastal spot with ocean views, textured rock, and that classic Marin vibe — rugged, exposed, and super fun when the conditions line up. Kim’s Gym info, routes, and driving directions: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/121674226/kims-gym-aka-kyms-gym *** 🚶‍♂️ Best Ways to Get There Option 1 — The Cobblestone Beach Approach (Most Direct) This is the preferred approach when tides and surf are low. * Walk down the road toward Steep Ravine to reach Cobblestone Beach. * From there, follow the rocks along the shoreline to: GPS: 37.880132, -122.622424 * Expect slippery rocks — take your time and watch the swell. * This approach is best when the tide is low and the ocean is mellow. Option 2 — Rocky Point Trail Approach (More Hiking, Less Surf Exposure) * Park where Rocky Point Trail intersects Hwy 1 (about half a mile south of the Steep Ravine cabins road). * Take Rocky Point Trail to Rocky Point Road (the road leading to the cabins). * Turn left onto the fire road heading toward Cobblestone Beach. * When you reach a pond and marsh, take the trail that drops down to the beach. * Walk past Cobblestone Beach to reach Kim’s Gym. \*Option two is so much better to get to the trailhead and super beautiful *** 🌄 Plan for the Day\* We’ll meet in the morning near the Kim’s Gym trail access. Once everyone arrives, we’ll do quick intros, check gear, and hike in together. Expect fun vertical routes, great warm‑ups, and a relaxed day of climbing and hanging out. *** 🎒 What to Bring * Harness, shoes, belay device * Helmet (recommended) * Water + snacks * Layers (it can go from warm to breezy) * A chill attitude *** Safety: We are not climbing guides. We are peers that knows Kim's Gym and have experience climbing since 2010 and safety is key. Once you join the meetup you dial into our liability clause which states "By participating in our events, you agree not to hold gyco organizers and fellow members responsible for your personal safety or for any harm or damages you might suffer while at a gyco event or while traveling to or from a gyco event." **Tide and surf report:** https://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Stinson-Beach/tides/latest

Frequently asked questions

Meetup connects outdoor enthusiasts to join alpine climbing groups. It helps climbers find events, discover new trails, and meet like-minded adventurers who share their passion for mountain climbing.

Search 'alpine climbing' in San Francisco to see available groups. Browse the variety of options, from beginner outings to advanced climbs, and select the one that fits your interests and skill level.

Yes, you can find events suited for beginners in the San Francisco area. These events are usually led by experienced climbers who guide newcomers through the fundamentals while emphasizing safety.

Absolutely, you can join as many climbing groups as you wish. This allows you to explore a range of events, meet diverse climbing communities, and access different trails and mountains around San Francisco.

Before an alpine event, ensure you have the necessary equipment and gear specific to the event's requirements. Check event details on Meetup, consider the terrain, and review conditions and logistics.

Not all events require prior experience; many welcome all levels. Check each event's details for specific skill level recommendations or contact the event organizer for guidance.

Joining Meetup and browsing events is generally free for users. Some specific climbing events might have fees, typically for costs like permits, gear rentals, or guides.

Simply join the group that hosts the event and click 'RSVP' on the event page. Ensure you have the event details and have checked for any additional instructions or requirements provided by the host.

Event quality can vary based on the organizer. Since events are hosted by groups or individuals, it's helpful to read reviews or community feedback prior to attending.

Climbing involves inherent risks, but events prioritize safety through guidelines and experienced leaders. Attend events suited to your skill level and always follow host instructions for a safer experience.

Event frequency can vary depending on the group's activity level and the season. Check multiple groups to find events regularly scheduled, particularly during favorable climbing conditions.

Meetup does not directly organize events; they are hosted by individual groups or organizers. Meetup provides a platform for enthusiasts to find and join these independently run events.

Meetup can connect you with fellow climbers but doesn't guarantee one-on-one partnerships. Engage in community events to naturally meet others who could become reliable climbing partners.

Some groups in San Francisco explore winter alpine climbing activities, weather permitting. Check for seasonal events and ensure you're equipped for colder conditions and specific challenges.

While Meetup covers many interests, availability depends on what local groups offer. If alpine climbing isn't abundant, consider creating your own group or reaching out to organizers for recommendations.
