LCC CYCLING TOURS: EV2 Route, Putney to Staines via Richmond Park [15 MILES]

Hello and welcome velocipedestrians! Here at Left Culture Club, we're always looking for new and exciting ways to build community and share experiences while also increasing our ability to kick ass. \ That's why for our latest instalment in the never-ending LCC physical culture series, we're hitting a small section of the [EuroVelo 2 route.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EV2_The_Capitals_Route) This trans-European touring track can supposedly take you all the way from Ireland to Moscow by way of various European capitals, although it's likely you wouldn't be able to do the whole journey past Belarus these days. Our route (EV2 line, shown in red) on the day should be viewable here: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/51.47064/-0.24453&layers=C It starts just outside Putney Bridge station and ends (for us) at Staines. This is our first time organising one of these, so I'll keep it simple. We'll meet out in front of at Putney Bridge station at noon and hit the track together at half past. The route takes us through some beautiful country including right through the heart of the gorgeous Richmond Park, which LCC loyalists will remember from one of our more spectacular nature walks last year. Watch out for the wild deer! **The distance to Staines, from which we can get spacious trains back into central London in about 20 minutes, is approximately 15 miles, so be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks** \- I'll do likewise and be sure to have enough to share\! Bring your own bike and make sure it's fit for service! You can hire a Lime or such like, but for a journey of this distance you'll rack up a serious bill with those parasites. FREE Ride: Richmond to Woolwich - 32 Miles. MOVED FROM 14TH FEB TO 28TH FEB

Ever wanted to visit the spiritual home of the Woolwich Building Society? Join us on this **FREE** 32 mile ride from Richmond to Woolwich, taking lunch at the Friends Cafe in Woolwich before hopping on Thames Clipper service back to Waterloo. A real treat of a ride showing all aspects of the Thames from both land and from the river itself. We'll be passing all the great London sights on our return including Greenwich, Canary Wharf and Tower Bridge. This is a free ride and the cost of the Thames Clipper is £10.25 or £5 for concessions including Freedom Pass holders. If you wish to bypass the Clipper you can take the train back from Woolwich to Waterloo. We meet at Richmond Park Gate at 9.30 and cycle along the Thames Path to Battersea Park where we stop for coffee. Then onwards via Bermondsey to Woolwich where we stop for lunch at Friends Cafe, which provides excellent quality food and coffee at very inexpensive prices. After lunch we cycle down to the Thames Clipper pier at Woolwich for an amazing river cruise back to Waterloo. We should finish the ride at around 4pm at Waterloo Station. This is an excellent 32 mile Spring ride with plenty of interesting sights and pretty easy for everyone as it's all flat. Tickets for the Thames Clipper service from Woolwich Pier to the London Eye can be purchased through the link below, we'll aim to get the 2.30pm Clipper. I would recommend buying your ticket before you go as we all need to get aboard the Thames Clipper promptly. The ferry won't wait unfortunately. Discover the latest street life, clothing, art and music trends. Vibrant stalls and unique clobber, who said Sunday’s were for resting! Plus take in the diverse sights of The City, St Katherine's Docks and Wapping. Distance: 10 miles Terrain: Flat Path/Road: All on quiet road. Suitable for all bikes. Physical difficulty: Easy. 2 hours cycling at a slow pace. You must be competent on a bike. Duration: 10:00am – 4pm Cost: £30 Itinerary: A little less cycling in this tour, but that's because there are so many great distractions! A winding trail through richly diverse sights. Starting with the financial powerhouses of The City and stately Squares, we'll move effortlessly into Shoreditch, the Capital of Cool! First stop Columbia Road flower market, a great place for all with flower and plant stalls and 60 interesting local shops. From cup cakes to art galleries! A short ride to Brick Lane which you can walk down at your leisure. No longer just known as the curry capital, it's now a melting pot of street culture. Designer and vintage clothing, food markets, bars and clubs, it's all here! Spitalfields market combines history with cutting edge style and creativity. Often voted Best London Market and fully justified! A change of scene beckons as we head towards the water and St Katherine's Docks. A stunning location with its marina of boats and great views of the Thames. Along the waterfront into Wapping where you'll see the modern transformation of wharf buildings into designer riverside living. An ornamental canal provides a nice cycle path for us to head back and over Tower Bridge to the finish. There are numerous refreshment places along the way and we'll ensure we have a proper lunch stop to suit the group. If time permits we'll try and finish with a stop at a riverside pub. Thames Path cycle tour

Distance: 28 miles Terrain: Flat **Path/Road:** 3 miles of road, rest is path. Some of the path is quite rutted so thin road bike tyres won't be too comfortable. **Physical difficulty:** Easy to Moderate, 3.5 hours cycling at a manageable pace. You must be competent on a bike and have cycled similar distances. **Duration**: 10am – 4pm **Cost**: £30 **Itinerary**: The Thames Path stretches from the Thames Barrier in the East to Cricklade, the source of the Thames in the West. On this stretch from Putney to Staines you will cycle the course of the famous Oxford v Cambridge boat race, and enjoy the grandeur of Richmond waterfront. You’ll have time here to explore the Farmer’s Market. Moving on the route becomes more rural as you reach the majestic Hampton Court Palace, and then finish through meadows, and idyllic waterfront communities. The route is alive with people enjoying the river, both on it and off: rowers, sailors, walkers and cyclists. Lunch is at The Angler's pub in Walton on Thames. A stunning riverside location. At the end of the tour we’ll head back on the train to return the hire bikes or feel free to find your own way home. Out on the Road - Women & Queer Cycling

**Anyone want company for regular cycling rides around London, with the option of cycling trips abroad later on?** Hi all! I’m based in London and I want to start with **local rides first**, so we can meet properly, ride together, and get a feel for the vibe and pace. If the group clicks over time, we can then gauge interest for **self-organised cycling weekends abroad**, for example Spain. **What we're doing first:** * Regular London rides, starting with **Richmond Park and/or Regent’s Park** **Who it's for:** * **Women** and **non-binary riders**, **queer-friendly**. Open to anyone who feels comfortable in a women-centred space * Age range: **25 to 45** * Best suited to riders comfortable with **50 km+** rides (and building up from there) **Potential Trips (for later):** * If the group grows and people are keen, we can organise self-organised Wed to Sun cycling weekends abroad later on. Everyone would book their own flights, accommodation, and meals. This is not a guided tour, it would be a casual group meet-up style trip. **How this works:** * RSVP here so I can gauge numbers.
