We're looking for 5 to 10 people to come dig in, literally. New or experienced, doesn't matter. No skills needed, just intention to show up. You'll help with: ✦ Watering, weeding, harvesting ✦ Pruning, sowing, transplanting ✦ Removing invasive species ✦ Mixing soil and compost ✦ Sign painting and light carpentry for raised beds You'll pick up real permaculture basics along the way. Avengers put your costumes on and let’s go and save the world! Well we can’t save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better! Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place. Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm. Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend. No Shows/Late Un-RSVP: We’re relying on members who RSVP to bring key ingredients for recipes! In this talk, I explore ways that the aesthetic character of places (inviting, strange, threatening, familiar, comforting, creepy, seedy, sinister, somber, serene, etc.) can impact moral, prudential, and political norms that operate in those spaces. This will in turn lead to questions about how we should approach our power to shape the aesthetic character of places. Erich Matthes https://www.wellesley.edu/people/erich-matthes Professor Department of Philosophy Wellesley College **About the Speaker:** My primary research interests concern the ethics, politics, and aesthetics of cultural heritage, art, and the environment. I have [published papers](https://philpapers.org/profile/28417) on topics including repatriation, historic preservation, landscape art, cultural appropriation, irreplaceability, authenticity, place-loss due to climate change, and the value of history and heritage. My second book, *[What to Save and Why: Identity, Authenticity, and the Ethics of Conservation](https://global.oup.com/academic/product/what-to-save-and-why-9780197744550?cc=us&lang=en)* was published by Oxford University Press in September 2024. It's about the ethics of conserving and preserving things, from heirlooms to artworks, traditions to landscapes. I've also written about the problem of immoral artists: what should we do, think, and feel when artists whom we love do or say objectionable things? We will also be visiting the Cabbagetown Fall Festival which includes music, food, a street festival, arts & crafts, yard sales and a farm. This event is free. Highly recommended. special message; Please be aware there is a subway closing Sunday morning between st George and Broadview shuttle buses will be running. Allow extra time to get there. For anyone who wants to drive there is free street parking next to Castle Frank station. I will wait at Castle Frank station about 30 minutes giving an introduction then we will walk south on parliament street.

Building Hope Gala Dinner

The Shalom Catholic Community in Toronto is hosting a Building Hope Gala Dinner to raise funds for the construction of the Espaço Educativo de Paz (Educational Space for Peace) in Lubango, Angola. The Shalom mission there currently serves the local community through prayer groups, home visits, and the distribution of food to approximately 30 families. One of the greatest challenges the missionaries face is the lack of a safe and dedicated space where children and youth can gather, learn, and grow. Access to even basic medical care is also very limited. The Espaço Educativo de Paz will provide a place of hope for approximately 80 children and adolescents. It will offer educational support, vocational training, faith formation, recreational activities, and a health post to meet basic medical needs. By attending the gala dinner—or by making a donation—you can help make this project a reality and offer these young people a brighter future.
