Luna Dark Halloween Night at Luna Park St Kilda
Thu, Oct 22, 6:45 AMJoin me for a Halloween night out at Luna Park St Kilda for **Luna Dark** — the park after dark, with unlimited rides, haunted mazes, roaming performers and live entertainment until midnight. It's the opening night of Luna Dark 2026, so expect a big, loud, slightly ridiculous atmosphere — neon lights, scare attractions, carnival games and Halloween-themed shows across the park. Costumes are very welcome if that's your thing, but absolutely not required. We'll meet outside the Luna Park gates at 5:45pm for a quick hello, then head inside together when the session opens at 6:00pm. From there we'll wander the park as a group, ride what we feel like riding and duck into the mazes for whoever's brave enough. I'll wrap the official meetup around 10:00pm, but your ticket runs until midnight, so stay on as long as you like. **A Meetup RSVP is not a ticket.** This is a casual social meetup so we can go along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with or endorsed by Luna Park. Please book your own Luna Dark ticket directly with them before the night. **Who this is for** * Anyone who likes theme parks, Halloween, or both * People who enjoy a bit of a fright — the mazes are optional, and you can skip them * Coming on your own? Perfect. Plenty of people do, and you'll have a group to walk in with **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EqhWti9m9RZPKpMq8 * Luna Dark info and tickets: https://lunapark.com.au/luna-dark-2026/ **Timeline** * 5:45pm – Meet outside the Luna Park gates and say hello * 6:00pm – Head inside together as the Luna Dark night session opens * 6:15pm – Rides, mazes, games and general wandering as a group * 10:00pm – Meetup finishes (stay on if you like — the session runs to midnight) **Tickets / cost** * You'll need a **Luna Dark Unlimited Rides Ticket** for the night session, booked directly with Luna Park. * Luna Park says all guests entering during Luna Dark need a valid Luna Dark Night Ticket — annual passes, standard park entry tickets and pre-purchased unlimited ride tickets are **not** valid for these sessions. * Tickets are limited and Luna Park recommends booking online in advance, as sessions can sell out. * Please book your own ticket. **Transport** * Luna Park is right on the Esplanade in St Kilda. Trams 96, 3/3a and 16 all stop nearby. * Street parking around St Kilda on a Thursday night can be tight, so public transport is the easier option. **Bring** * Your Luna Dark ticket * A jacket * Comfortable shoes for a lot of walking and standing * A costume if you're keen (Luna Park asks that costumes are family-friendly, that masks can be removed on request, and that props be checked at Guest Relations) * Card for food and drinks **Expect** * Difficulty: Easy — mostly walking, standing and queuing * Pace: Relaxed, we'll drift around the park rather than march through a schedule * Vibe: Fun, silly and a bit spooky * Group style: Casual and friendly; we may split into smaller groups for rides and mazes and regroup **Important notes** * This is an independent social meetup arranged so we can attend together. It isn't organised by, affiliated with or endorsed by Luna Park, and an RSVP here doesn't include entry. * Rides, mazes and entertainment are all run by Luna Park and are subject to their availability, height restrictions and health requirements — worth checking their Fun & Safety Guide before you come. * Please take part within your own ability, and follow all park rules and staff instructions. You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and wellbeing on the night. * The mazes are genuinely designed to scare people. There's no pressure to go in, and no one will think less of you for sitting one out. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear for everyone else. * I'll be near the main gates from 5:45pm — if you're running late, head in and message the group.

Tricky Tuesday @ The Peacock Inn
Tue, Sep 15, 9:00 AMWelcome to the **Tricky Tuesday** Meet Up! This is a smaller event but still the same sized fun! Come join us to play and explore modern card games (especially trick-takers and climbing/shedding games)! It's a great chance to learn a new game and meet some new people. You can usually find us at the tables in the side room! * *This event is made possible (and kept free for all members) via the support of [Pretty Tricky Games](http://prettytrickygames.com.au). An Australian online store for niche and unique imported and indie board and card games. Some of these you will be able to experience at our events!* Bring some games to this event if you can. There are none available at the venue. I will always have some packed - feel free to search for the rules and prepare yourself to play! These regular suspects include: Skull King, Farm Hand, The Crew, Space Dragons, VIVO, and Inside Job. Please consider others when coming and in the lead up to the event. We want as many people there as possible. If you are unable to attend mark yourself as such as soon as you can so others can be notified and attend. There's an FAQ below but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out. Your tricky friend, Dave **FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS** **What is a trick taking game? Good question you handsome person.** * Generally speaking, a trick taking game is a card game which is played in a series of rounds known as ***tricks***. * Each trick is evaluated to determine a winner or ***taker*** of that trick and then will usually start - or ***lead*** *-* the next trick. * The goal is usually tied to either winning or losing a number of tricks. This may also come in the form of you guessing how many tricks you will win - known as a ***bid***. * Some games may have a suit that always wins - known as a ***trump***. * Most trick taking games are **competitive** needing between 3-5 players, others are **cooperative**, there are also solo and two-player trick taking games as well! * Popular trick taking/trick taking adjacent games you may have heard of: [The Crew](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/324856/the-crew-mission-deep-sea), [Skull King](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/150145/skull-king), [Cat in the Box](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/345972/cat-in-the-box-deluxe-edition), [Scout](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/291453/scout), [Fox in the Forest](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/221965/the-fox-in-the-forest), the classic games of [Spades](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/592/spades) and [Hearts](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6887/hearts), **What makes a Trick Taking game fun?** * There's so much to trick taking games! They're generally quick to teach, quick to play, have interesting decision spaces, and a wide variety of novelty. Even the classics though can be played thousands of times without getting tiresome. Part of the fun is in the interaction with others, assessing their moves and countering them, and how to win (or lose) at the right times. You have to stay on your toes, adapt frequently, and keep tabs on the other players, what they have played, and what they may play next! **Do I need to know how to play/have played a trick taking game before?** * Not at all, but it is good to understand the basics and general terminology so you can pick things up a bit easier on the night. You can check out [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O7QyhKmCsk) for a bit of a general breakdown . **Is this event free?** * Yes, but please support the venue by purchasing a drink or two. **I'm on the waitlist can I still come?** * Unfortunately, no. We have limited capacity and must abide by it. **I don't have a game to bring, is that okay?** * Generally it will be okay, but it is encouraged to bring and share a game where you can! You can always bring a standard deck of cards or tarot cards and learn a card game or two as well! **Can I bring a guest?** * Unfortunately, unless they have signed up too it won't be possible. We have a strict limit on guests and the event would fill up too quickly otherwise. **How do I get to the venue?** * The 86 Tram is your best bet and has a stop pretty much right outside of the venue. * There are two train stations (Westgarth and Northcote) which are within walking distance. * Parking is available in the area but can get busy. If you don't mind a little walk there is parking down the adjacent street. **Dave, I worry you will win all the games we play. Such an intelligent and beautiful man, you must be a master of the tricks, is this true?** * Firstly - thank-you for the kind words, but secondly - no. I suck at trick taking games and lose more than I win. Yet, I enjoy them for their variety, high interaction, and quick nature regardless. You will be fine if you don't take things too seriously. It's about fun and meeting people... (but if you do beat me too often I will ban you from the group and venue...).
