Spring South for Spring (14 miles)
Spring South for Spring (14 miles)
The South Downs lie almost a degree of latitude south from London, so Spring arrives earlier. Flowers bloom, lambs are born, and before the Equinox the daylight sun shines longer. So head south - to the pretty village of Pyecombe to welcome Spring. Pyecombe has something for everyone; *The Plough* nestles near the Wayfield farm shop and cafe which has locally sourced goodies. The 12th-C church grounds offer a peaceful spot for sandwiches. The name derives from Old English *pīc* for peak and *coomb* is a scooped valley hollow, a typical chalkland feature. And in this spirit the walk will be hills, interspersed by rests in the village. [Home | Pyecombe Village Website](https://www.pyecombe.info/) And the walk would not be complete without a well positioned hillfort, so expect one in the mix of this remix of the South Downs' best places. TRAVEL Take the 9.35 train from London Bridge to HASSOCKS. Buy an off peak day return ticket to HASSOCKS is £11.45 with a Network card or Groupsave. Walk starts at Hassocks rail station 10.35. Bring a packed lunch. Circular walk. The organizer will be standing outside the ticket office from around 9.15 am as a focal point for people to arrange group tickets *How to join?* * The walk is entirely free of charge; * You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; * Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); * Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. See our quick safety tips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel and (if required) accommodation - this gives everyone the freedom and choice to join from wherever they want and stay wherever they want. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. We advise not to buy tickets until the day. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

Following Islington’s Natural Line
Following Islington’s Natural Line
This walk is a short walk of 3 to 4 km giving a taster of London topography ending in The Albion Pub. [Albion |](https://www.the-albion.co.uk/) It takes in some of London’s most elegant and least familiar streets and squares, following a clear line of higher ground (the Islington Spur) with a good view of the BT Tower and the Fleet valley. We will also look at the Charles Rowan Art Deco Apartment block - created between 1928 and 1932 for married policemen and their families. The area is strongly connected with the New River Company as will be explained. [London topographic map, elevation, terrain](https://en-gb.topographic-map.com/map-kffs8/London/?center=51.45846%2C0.28235&zoom=9) is one map showing London topography. The walk starts and finishes at Angel Station. We will wait for 5 minutes at Angel station before the start. This walk is at your own risk.

Friday night social: Let's go to scene 75!
We’re heading back to Scene75 on Friday, March 27 for a high-energy night of laser tag, mini golf, go-karts, arcade games, and whatever chaos we decide to get into. We’ve done this one before and it was a blast — great turnout, tons of laughs, and just the right mix of competition and hanging out. If you missed it last time, this is your shot. 🎯 What to Expect: Laser tag battles Mini golf challenges Go-karts (for those who need speed) Arcade games & game cards You can load however much you’d like onto a game card. Most people will probably be good with $15–$30, but it’s totally up to you. This is a super casual event — show up, jump into whatever looks fun, rotate groups, and hang out. No pressure, no complicated structure. Just a solid Friday night with good people. Also… I haven’t hosted in a bit and I’m making a push to be more active again. If you’ve got ideas for future events you’d love to do, bring them. I’m all ears. Let’s run it back. 🔥
