The setting is a useful reminder of impermanence—something Theravāda practice has been pointing out for about 2,500 years. Few meditation halls provide such direct architectural commentary on *anicca*. **Structure of the session** 1. Short introduction 2. 8-minute easy qigong warm-up 3. 30-minute sit (guided mettā → samatha) 4. Open discussion and exchange 5. Short qigong break 6. 30-minute silent sit The intention is to balance stillness with a small amount of embodied movement, helping the body settle before each sit. Bring something to sit on and dress appropriately for the weather. Prior meditation experience is recommended, as the format assumes familiarity with sustained sitting practice.

We begin with a short and gentle breathwork exercise to regulate the body, calm the nervous system, and bring attention inward. This prepares the transition into meditation. This is followed by a 15–20 minute introduction to the meditation practice. During this phase, I explain the core principles of meditation and assign each participant a personal meditation task, tailored to their individual level of experience. The intention of this part is to create clarity, inner orientation, and a sense of safety for the silent practice. We then enter a first phase of silent meditation. After approximately 15–20 minutes, the silence is intentionally interrupted by a short walking meditation. This is not a break, but a conscious transition that integrates the body, releases restlessness, and deepens presence. Afterwards, we return to silent meditation. Each participant practices independently with their personal instruction, within a calm and supportive space. Led by Harriet, art educator and creative coach, the session blends simple prompts and guided exercises with open creative time. Think of it as an analogue reset before the week begins again — slowing down, making with your hands, and following curiosity on the page. The emotional pain from past bad experiences easily lingers in the present, making it hard to enjoy life and create your future. Even when you think you've moved on, the negative emotions can be triggered, sending you back into the pain of that experience. And we are talking about pain; emotions such as grief, depression, anxiety, fear (or terror), boiling anger, simmering resentment, feelings of shame, blaming and regret can leave you incapacitated to a greater or lesser degree. In this local event we will be discussing the reasons why these past bad experiences have the power to affect you long after they occurred. We'll go over why the emotional pain can be so strong. We'll also discuss some simple solutions to overcome your emotional pain and be free to fully enjoy your life again. Examples of painful experiences include: * A broken relationship or divorce. * Death or loss of a loved one. * Death of a pet. * A sudden shock or bad news. * A betrayal. * Being part of an abusive relationship. * A bad injustice. * Loss of a job, position or business. * A grave illness or injury. The negative emotions from these experiences don't just go away on their own. But the good news is there is a way to clear them out of your way.
