đŸ“œïžTime Hoppers: The Silk Road
đŸ“œïžTime Hoppers: The Silk Road
From the futuristic domes of North Greenwich, where the river Thames bends and the popcorn smells are strongest, we’re gathering for an epic screening of **Time Hoppers: The Silk Road**. 🎬 **THE MISSION:** đŸŽžïž **Film:** Time Hoppers: The Silk Road (rated PG) ⏳ **Runtime:** 1 hour 43 mins 📍 **Location:** Cineworld London - The O2 (Greenwich) 🚇 **Nearest Tube Station**: North Greenwich (Jubilee line) ⌚ **The Meet:** 4:45pm (Outside the cinema entrance) 🎬 **Film Starts:** 5:00pm (Sharp) ✊ **Note:** Active Muslims is equally about focusing on the actual activity. In this case, this is a **highly disciplined cinematic operation**, not a nap in a dark room. It is advised to approach this event with the intention of peak relaxation and the purpose of extreme snack consumption. We expect a "paced" viewing—stay alert for the plot twists and keep the popcorn-to-mouth ratio consistent. ### đŸ‘šâ€đŸ‘©â€đŸ‘§â€đŸ‘Š FAMILY & JUNIOR RECRUITS This event is specifically designed for the next generation! We want to see the **kids, nephews, and nieces** out in full force. Whether they are future time travelers or just there for the Slushies, bring them along to join the crew. ### đŸŽŸïž TICKETS & LOGISTICS No group discounts this time **Price: ÂŁ5.99 per person.** **[Booking: Please purchase your tickets for the 5:00pm](https://experience.cineworld.co.uk/select-tickets?sitecode=077&site=077&id=281082&lang=en)** showing on Friday, 17th April \**via the Cineworld website/app. Group Booking:* There is no group discount but we can try to ensure we have tickets in the event they may sell out before the date by ordering earlier. I can book earlier if you want me to book for you but it’s virtually impossible to ensure we can all sit in the same block! ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ đŸš»**Facilities**: On-site restrooms available in the O2. 🕋 **Prayer**: There is a multi-faith prayer room located opposite the family room on Level 2 should you want to pray before/after the film (asr: 16:52 maghbrib: 20:05). 🎒 **What to bring:** Your "serious" cinema face, a fully charged phone, and enough energy to keep up with the kids. 🍉 **Food**: Cineworld have a strict no externally purchased hot food policy. Technically, you can bring your own snacks (although I would keep it subtle). đŸ„Ÿ **Footwear:** Hiking boots are *not* recommended (unless you really want to), but comfy socks for those recliner seats are a win. ⛑ **Disclaimer:** You are solely responsible for your own safety (and your kids' popcorn intake). You are also responsible for your belongings at all times. 🌐 **[@Active.Muslims](https://www.instagram.com/active.muslims) / Active Mindset**

The Bride Is Much Too Beautiful
In this delightful comedy, a young independent girl (Brigitte Bardot) from out-of-town is discovered by Judith (Micheline Presle), the editor-in-chief of a women’s magazine. To excite his jealousy, Chouchou is seen around with a model named Patrice and two photographers named Toni and Marc. Will her strategy work? We'll meet-up in the reception area of the venue about 15:50 and (if attendees wish) go for a quick drink or snack afterwards (at the venue or nearby). It is suggested that members may wish to book a seat in row F or M. I will add a comment when I have booked my seat. East London Fiction Book Club
East London Fiction Book Club
A fresh, intentional space for readers in East London who take their fiction seriously. We aren't a social mixer that happens to have a book in the background; we are a dedicated circle of six readers who meet once a month to dissect, debate, and celebrate high-quality literature. Why Only Six? We believe the best literary analysis happens when everyone has a seat at the head of the table. By strictly limiting our meetups to 6 people, we ensure: No one is talked over. The conversation stays focused and nuanced. An intimate environment where we can truly get to the heart of the text. The Reading List Our focus is strictly fiction only. We explore the boundaries of the craft, focusing on: Contemporary Literary Fiction (The Booker, International Booker, and beyond). Modern Classics that deserve a second look. Translated Works that offer a different lens on the world. How We Work When: Once a month on a Sunday Where: Carefully selected, quiet spots across East London—from Hackney to Bow—where the atmosphere suits a serious conversation. The Commitment: Because spaces are so limited, we ask that you only RSVP if you are certain you can attend and have finished the book. We dive straight into spoilers and structural analysis from minute one. If you cannot attend, pleaae cancel 24 hours before hand to allow someone else to attend

April Meeting 1 - James (Percival Everett)
April Meeting 1 - James (Percival Everett)
In April's first meeting, we will read Percival Everett's 2024 book, *James.* The award-winning novel received both the Booker Prize in 2024 and the Pulitzer Prize in 2025. It is a fascinating retelling of a famed Mark Twain novel that many Americans read at school. 'A breathtakingly accomplished retelling of *The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn* from the point of view of the enslaved Jim, Everett's tour de force reclaims the character's voice from the literary margins with power, precision and dazzling wit.' -Waterstones 'A captivating response to Mark Twain’s classic that is both a bold exploration of a dark chapter in history and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit' -Booker Prize judges https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/173754979-james The meeting will take place at the Big Easy - Canary Wharf. So come along for some down-home American cooking as we delve into this acclaimed novel. N.B. We will be charging an event fee of £3, non-refundable, to discourage no-shows and contribute to the running costs of the group. Please only sign up if you intend to come along as space is limited to make for an effective discussion!
Good Slut—Conversation & Book Signing With Author Zoe Strimpel
Good Slut—Conversation & Book Signing With Author Zoe Strimpel
If an alien landed in Britain of 2026, it might well conclude that things have never been worse for women. That to be a woman in the neoliberal, post-sexual revolution West is just a vale of tears: bodily, emotionally, reproductively, and socially. Except, that's not at all the truth, is it? In Good Slut, Zoe Strimpel argues the exact opposite, that things have never been better for women, and the fact that this is a taboo shows how far off the right piste we're going. She takes aim at what she sees as a culture of female victimhood, arguing instead that women in the modern West enjoy unprecedented freedom—socially, sexually, and economically. The book is a forceful defence of the sexual revolution and a call to embrace agency, ambition, and desire without apology. It argues for a proud promiscuity: not just sexual, but in all other things too. This argument has sparked sharp disagreement. Critics have questioned whether Strimpel downplays the real costs of modern dating culture, from the effects of pornography and dating apps to the persistence of exploitation and dissatisfaction. Others argue that her dismissal of “victimhood” overlooks genuine problems—or that her vision of liberation risks collapsing into a defence of whatever currently exists. ïżŒ Join us for a candid conversation on sex, freedom, and the deeper ideas at stake: what does genuine independence actually require—and is modern culture helping us achieve it, or standing in the way?

Welcome, readers! Our April read is **_Martyr!_ by Kaveh Akbar.** The story follows a young Iranian American poet grappling with grief, addiction, and the aching question of what makes a life meaningful. Drawn into an unexpected friendship with a terminally ill artist, he begins to confront faith, love, and the seduction of self-destruction. Lyrical, darkly funny, and emotionally piercing, the novel wrestles with beauty and despair in equal measure. It’s a story about longing—to be seen, to be forgiven, and to matter. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖

How Lucky by Will Leitch
How Lucky by Will Leitch
Posting this early because seemingly all Sundays in May are holidays or busy! I picked a shorter thriller that's hopefully a fast read/listen. [Columbus library link to book](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3458940) Location: Grandview Cafe, *1455 W. 3rd Ave*, Columbus, OH 43212 [Menu](https://www.grandviewcafe.com/menu) Book summary: Daniel leads a rich life in the university town of Athens, Georgia. He's got a couple close friends, a steady paycheck working for a regional airline, and of course, for a few glorious days each Fall, college football tailgates. He considers himself to be a mostly lucky guy -- despite the fact that he's suffered from a debilitating disease since he was a small child, one that has left him unable to speak or to move without a wheelchair. Largely confined to his home, Daniel spends the hours he's not online communicating with irate air travelers observing his neighborhood from his front porch. One young woman passes by so frequently that spotting her out the window has almost become part of his daily routine. Until the day he's almost sure he sees her being kidnapped.
