Valentine’s Warm-Up: Karaoke & Arcade Night
Join Neurodivergent District for a night of camaraderie over karaoke, classic arcade games, and good food at Alexandria’s **Continues Arcade** on **Wednesday, February 11** for a little Valentine’s Day “pregame.” We plan to arrive by **6:30 PM** for our reservation; karaoke runs **7:00–10:00 PM**, and arriving early helps with signing up to sing and ordering food/drinks.
Co-hosted by Patrick Rohan — he pitched this event (if you’d like to show appreciation, you can donate by Venmoing **@katewoodwardcm** and putting **“Patrick”** in the note).
This venue can be **loud and overstimulating** for some, so please feel free to bring supports that help (earplugs, noise-canceling headphones, taking breaks outside, etc.). And no pressure to sing — you’re welcome to cheer others on and/or just come to socialize.

**Join us for the next gathering of *The Wellbeing Practice Circle*, a monthly in-person space to reflect, connect, and practice the essential ingredients of wellbeing. This is a free event.**
This session will focus on **emotions and emotional regulation**, using *The Wheel of Emotions and Feelings* as a simple and powerful tool to help us better understand what we feel and how emotions shape our choices, relationships, and behaviors.
Together, we’ll explore how to:
* Notice what our bodies are telling us
* Name emotions with more clarity and nuance
* Gently regulate emotions—both individually and collectively
Rather than trying to “fix” or suppress emotions, this gathering invites curiosity, self-awareness, and compassion. We’ll practice creating a supportive space where emotions can be acknowledged, shared, and understood as sources of insight and wisdom.
As always, this session will offer time to connect with others, share reflections, and continue building a caring and grounded wellbeing community.

With Love, We Rise: A Valentine’s Day Tribute to Federal Workers
Valentine’s Day is a time when we pause to reflect on love, not only romantic love, but the deeper love expressed through compassion, community, and care. For many in the DMV region and nationwide, February 14 also marks one year since the first federal Reduction in Force (RIF) action, a moment that deeply impacted thousands of current and former federal workers, contractors, and their families.
For decades, federal employees and contractors have served our nation with dedication, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose. Recent RIFs and government downsizing have brought sudden change, uncertainty, and emotional strain, impacting not only careers, but identity, stability, and well-being. While the year has brought loss and uncertainty for many, it has also revealed extraordinary resilience, reinvention, and inner strength.
Join the Meditation Museum, a remarkable nonprofit dedicated to saving lives and strengthening communities rooted in resilience and perseverance, as we partner with RIF2RISE for a special Valentine’s Day gathering. Together, we will honor and uplift current and former federal workers and contractors through a compassionate, supportive community presence. This meaningful experience is not to be missed and will offer genuine support to all who attend.
As part of the program, **Dr. Kanu Kogod** will offer a gentle, honest conversation titled **“The Unwanted Transition: Finding Peace and Direction After Job Loss.”** Designed for those navigating the aftermath of job loss, she will address the full spectrum of emotions, from shock and betrayal to fear and grief, while offering grounding perspectives on unexpected life changes and the search for peace, purpose, and direction.

Why are we unhappy? Where does emotional pain come from? Studies show that people who suffer from long-term emotional pain have painful experiences in their lives that were never fully resolved in their mind. In other words, there were issues in the past that were not completely dealt with. This can include abuse in childhood, breakups, divorce, death of a loved one, to name a few.
How do you know whether you have gotten over something painful? Here is an easy test: Do you still have attention on what had happened to you? For instance, do you still find yourself thinking about something painful that you went through? If you are, then you are not over it. In fact, in severe cases, people find themselves playing a "tape" in their mind over and over again.
So how do you heal from your past? How do you stop the "tape" playing in your mind? In this meeting, you will learn a technique to help you with that.

Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance.
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues.
So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them?
That is what this meeting will be all about.
