Young Maker's Meetup - Inspirations & Creators
**\- Do you enjoy learning about how things are made?**
**\- Do you enjoy making things yourself?**
Come make likeminded friends and share your experiences with the Toronto Makers Society. Meet and discuss your latest obsessions with other young geeks in the downtown Toronto area.
**First drink is on the house!**
Our meets are hosted at the Iconic [Madison Avenue Pub](https://maps.app.goo.gl/xxXc7FYGQnMszzLP7) on Tuesday evenings every other week.
This month at the Toronto Makers Society, the topic is ***Inspirations***. Nerd out over the creators that get your mind racing with possibilities. Whether they be TV hosts from your childhood or madman youtubers posting weekly, the members of the Toronto Makers Society want to hear all about what you're into right now.
To get the ball rolling, here are some videos from creators that inspired the Host:
**Not an Engineer** \- Australian man builds his own CNC milling machine at home\. Both a fantastic DIY engineer and video maker\, his videos are funny\, inspiring\, and informative\.
[I Built a CNC Mill Because I Have No Self Control](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uallSKJGoug)
**Adam Savage** \- Captured imaginations as a host of Mythbusters in the early 2000's\, now runs the *Tested* Youtube channel where he makes props in his shop and interviews people in film FX and maker technology.
[Adam Savage Tours the Star Wars Prop Department](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B87XJDPxytk)
**Code Bullet** \- Meme\-addled madman who revels in creating janky software\. Has a long running series of writing programs to dominate in silly online browser games\.
[Code Bullet Destroys a Minesweeper Leaderboard with Janky AI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehAStJmx_Fo)
**Colin Furze** \- A rags\-to\-riches story of Youtube makers\. Starting out with silly projects like gas powered baby carriages and jet go\-carts\, Furze now get sponsored to turn fictional gadgets into reality from his workshop in rural England\.
[Furze Makes the Hidden Blade From Assassins' Creed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmvcirebyY4)
Attendance is free for first time members, full membership to the Toronto Makers Society is 10$ a month to cover venue and operations expenses.

We by Yevgeny Zamyatin
Update: Sorry, I've had to move the time to 7:30! There's a lot of groups dining there before a show at the CAA theatre around the corner.
\-\-\-
Our next book will be We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Here's the blurb:
The exhilarating dystopian novel that inspired George Orwell's 1984 and foreshadowed the worst excesses of Soviet Russia.
Yevgeny Zamyatin's *We* is a powerfully inventive vision that has influenced writers from George Orwell to Ayn Rand. In a glass-enclosed city of absolute straight lines, ruled over by the all-powerful 'Benefactor', the citizens of the totalitarian society of OneState live out lives devoid of passion and creativity - until D-503, a mathematician who dreams in numbers, makes a discovery: he has an individual soul. Set in the twenty-sixth century AD, *We* is the classic dystopian novel and was the forerunner of works such as George Orwell's *1984* and Aldous Huxley's *Brave New World*. It was suppressed for many years in Russia and remains a resounding cry for individual freedom, yet is also a powerful, exciting and vivid work of science fiction.
Note for this book - there are a large variety of versions and translations!

Anime / Game / Vtuber Oshikatsu Meetup
Hi all!
Seeing if there is any interest for this kind of event in Toronto. I've always wanted to get a group of people together to enjoy sweets and to take cute photos of our favourite goods. And more than that, get a chance to meet with other people that are just as passionate as we are about our hobbies.
I saw Project Seoul mentioned as a good place for this type of event so I'd like to try it out. It'll be a first time for me so we'll be trying this out together for the first time!
About me: I'm an older fan so if you're like me and feel like you've aged out of most of the standard nerdy events please don't be nervous to RSVP! 日本語OK!
Board Game Night!!!!
We will be hosting board game night at Face to face games, see location below.
I will be bring a number of games from my collection and anyone is welcome to bring any game they would like to play as well, we normally decide at the event what to play and will split into to groups. normally there is a heavy game going and a couple lighter ones. I'm usually there early around 4:30PM, but we don't usually start anything large until 6pm. If your coming a bit later no worries there are plenty of shorter games running as well. We will get you playing.
So come on out and lets play some games!!!!!
You'll find us at the back of the store at the Large table Last row on the right just before the bathrooms. If you can't find us please ask the staff they will be able to direct you.
Join the [GeezUnited discord Server!!!!](https://discord.gg/JVMbMZTmRg) if you have any questions or looking to organize games outside of the meetup this is a great place to do so.

Thank you all so much!
Let's go see Project Hail Mary together!
Let's all go see [Project Hail Mary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m08TxIsFTRI) in cinema! It's a new epic sci-fi movie starting Ryan Gosling, from [Andy Weir's book](https://tpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S234C3970025) of the same name. It's supposed to be incredible!
We've chosen the 3:40pm showing on Saturday, March 28th, at Imagine Cinemas Market Square. We'll meet outside 20 minutes earlier to gather and chat, and then head in 5 minutes before show time to get seated. Apparently Imagine does not show many trailers, so we expect it to start promptly. It's a long movie, 2h 36 min, so we'll come out 6:15 or so. Afterwards you can also join us at a nearby bar (see below).
Two important notes: FIRST, they will not publish the showtimes (or sell tickets) for this coming Saturday until Wednesday morning. So the 3:40pm time is just assumed from how they did it last Saturday, we may have to adjust if they adjust their schedule. I will update this event Wed morning if we need to change the plan.
SECOND: you'll need to BUY YOUR OWN TICKET. We anticipate that it will sell out at moderate speed, so buy on WEDNESDAY. There will be multiple auditoriums, choose the one with the 3:40pm start (or whatever this gets updated to!), and then when picking a row, we're going to try for the ones in the back: A B and C. Hopefully at least some of us will end up seated next to each other. You can coordinate in the comments if you want (post the seat you bought).
Finally, afterwards optionally join us at a nearby bar: C'est What, 67 Front St E Downstairs, starting at 6:20pm or so, we'll chat about the movie and have our usual 'drink beers and shoot the shit about space' good time. You're also welcome to join just for that if you want, but fair warning, we will spoil the movie for you!
