Sven Sinclair will discuss the recent arms race in partisan gerrymandering that has been in the news a lot, but it is just a symptom of more fundamental flaws in our electoral system. This talk, based on his recent essay "[A SWEET Cure for Gerrymandering](https://svenosaurus.substack.com/p/a-sweet-cure-for-gerrymandering?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true)," will discuss those flaws, obstacles to fixing them, and a new proposal for a workable solution. Sven Sinclair is a member of NOVES for over two decades, is an economist and actuary who has been interested in electoral math and design of electoral systems since the last century. Is a peaceful world just one without war – or is it also one that supports our highest material & spiritual well-being? Food is one of the most meaningful ways to experience culture — and Ethiopian cuisine is rooted in community, tradition, and bold, layered flavors. Join the Global Food & Culture group as we gather at Enatye Ethiopian Restaurant to explore traditional dishes served on injera. If you’re open to sharing, we can create a few shared platters so everyone can sample a variety of dishes — but individual ordering is perfectly fine too. Enatye is a small restaurant and does not make reservations so they recommended the 2-4 pm time frame. We’re initially capping this at 12 guests to keep the experience comfortable and conversational. If interest is strong and the restaurant can accommodate, we may open additional spots. The good news is that they will bill each of us separately! Come hungry. Come curious. July 2025 marked the centennial of *The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes,* the famous "[Monkey Trial](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopes_trial)" that took place in Dayton, Tennessee. Last night, Arena Stage opened its production of *Inherit the Wind*, a fictionalization of the trial. The National Capital Area Skeptics has arranged for discounted tickets for the performance Tuesday evening, March 24 for members and guests of NCAS and Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH).
