It’s a countryside route with a strong sense of seclusion, despite being easily accessible by train. We’ll head out from Oxted and climb gently into wooded hills, following forest tracks and footpaths that weave through ancient woodland, open clearings, and chalk downland edges. This area feels especially peaceful — bare trees, wide skies, and long views when the canopy opens. Marden Park itself sits within a historic landscape shaped by farming, hunting, and estate woodland. The paths we follow link long-established tracks rather than formal parkland walks, giving the route a slightly wild, exploratory feel while still being well-defined. Expect a mix of forest trails, uneven ground, and occasional muddy stretches, with rewarding viewpoints and quiet corners away from busy roads. *** ## 🌄 Highlights Along the Way • Woodland and forest trails through Marden Park • Gentle climbs typical of the North Downs • Open viewpoints when the trees break • A peaceful, rural feel close to London • A satisfying circular route *** ## ⚠️ Group Guidelines (Important) • Please stay **with or behind the hike leader** at all times • You must be able to **see the person in front of you at all times** • Trails may be **muddy, slippery, and uneven** — proper hiking shoes/ boots recommended • Bring **water, food, warm layers, and maybe a torch** • The hike is at a **medium/fitness pace** • This is a **voluntary activity** — you are responsible for your own safety • The organiser accepts **no risk or liability** • Repeated no-shows may result in removal from the group Please read the **About Us** section before signing up: 👉 [https://www.meetup.com/free-hiking-outdoor-fitness-and-social-activities](https://www.meetup.com/free-hiking-outdoor-fitness-and-social-activities) *** ## ☕🍻 After the Hike We’ll finish back in Oxted, with the option to head to a local pub for a drink and food before heading home. *** 📱 **Contact** If you’re running late or lost, message me on WhatsApp: **07830 374 629** *(Please don’t call during the hike as I’ll be leading and navigating.)*

The **Seven Sisters** are a spectacular series of gleaming white chalk cliffs formed at the end of the last Ice Age by glacial meltwater. Erosion has since created an “eighth sister,” and today the cliffs stand as one of England’s most iconic landscapes. We begin in the coastal town of **Seaford**, home to a Napoleonic-era **Martello Tower** built in 1810 as part of a chain of 103 coastal defences against French invasion. From here, the trail climbs onto the cliff tops, where for much of the day we walk high above the sea, treated to endless coastal views and fresh sea air. Our route follows the **South Downs Way**, passing through **Birling Gap** and past the striking **Belle Tout Lighthouse**, famously moved 17 metres inland in 1999 to save it from falling into the sea. The final highlight is **Beachy Head**, a dramatic beauty spot with sheer chalk cliffs dropping into the sea below. We finish in **Eastbourne**, statistically England’s sunniest town, where we celebrate our coastal adventure with refreshments in a local pub. 🧭 **Guide:** • Leader: [LYUBAVA](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf) • Contact (hike day only): 07883 405294 🍽️ **Food:** • Bring a packed lunch • Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional) 🎒**What to Bring** • Hiking boots/shoes • Water (2 litres minimum) • Packed lunch • Waterproofs (jacket and trousers) • Hat and gloves if cold • Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point ⚠️ **Safety** Your guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider ❓ **Want to Know More?** • [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers “what to expect”) • [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history) • [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries) 📲 **Explore More &** **Stay Connected** [Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) 👣 [Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) 📖 [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) 📸 [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics) 📄 **Terms and Conditions** By signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf) **Cliffs – danger** There are sheer drops off the cliffs and some of these soft chalk cliffs are crumbling at the edges with chunks regularly falling and no fencing in place. Please keep at least 3 metres away from the edges. If you fall, or the ground at the edge of the cliff collapses it will almost certainly be fatal. © Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE

The Right to Privacy - Philosophy Talk
The Right to Privacy - Philosophy Talk
*Is privacy a fundamental human right?* *Should privacy ever be sacrificed for security?* *How does surveillance change how we behave?* *Is privacy necessary for democracy?* This time we will be discussing the **right to privacy** in the relative privacy of an upstairs room of a North London pub! No walk this time (due to a broken toe)! Instead we will head indoors and experiment with a different format - a talk and discussion session. Meet at 2pm at the Star of Kings pub in King's Cross, upstairs in the green room. If you want to do some reading on the subject I recommend **The Right to Oblivion** by Lowry Pressly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Right-Oblivion-Privacy-Good-Life/dp/067430490X A YouTube video on the same book by Unsolicited Advice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5sx5nGNIyc If you have any other recommendations on the subject feel free to post in the commends below. There will be a short presentation then group discussions. This group encourages friendly, constructive conversations rather than confrontational debates; so give everyone space to talk, be respectful and actively listen to others. It's not about 'winning' a debate but about expressing your opinion and learning about other people's views. Admission £5, if you are a student, unemployed or retired then you can attend for free. You can pay in cash or card on the walk or online with this link: [https://pay.tide.co/products/philosophy-kfDyHrXZ](https://pay.tide.co/products/philosophy-kfDyHrXZ) **This event is supported by the Royal Institute of Philosophy.**

Green Walk - Hornchurch to Corbets Tey + (optional) Pub
Green Walk - Hornchurch to Corbets Tey + (optional) Pub
A walk around Hornchurch Country Park, and onto Corbets Tey's Huntsman & Hounds pub. A 370 bus will get people back to Hornchurch; or to Upminster Station; or straight through to Romford. Please note that the end-time includes pub-time, the walk will normally finish around mid-afternoon. We're meeting at the Railway Hotel pub at 11am (just by Hornchurch District Line Station) for a coffee. You are able to park in the side road the pub sits on the corner of, as the yellow lines only apply Mon to Fri. We'll stop for a nice coffee break en route too. Those coming from Romford can get a 193 or 252 bus to Hornchurch Station. From Harold Wood Station, or Harold Hill area, its a 296 bus. Those coming from Barkingside area can get the 247 to the Wetherspoon in Collier Row, cross the road to the start of the 252 route, which will take you to straight to Hornchurch Station. Either that or a 169 bus to Barking Station and a few stops on the District Line. Some may prefer a Central Line hop to Mile End, and District Line from there. It is also worth noting that Barking is on the London Overground network. For those who haven't paid in advance, I ask for a nominal contribution of £2 to help cover Meetup organiser fees. Free London walk from Little Venice to Camden Market via Regents Canal, 8.5km
Free London walk from Little Venice to Camden Market via Regents Canal, 8.5km
This is part of my series of leisurely London walks aimed at exploring and getting to know the city better. They are largely flat, easier, and shorter in length than my countryside hikes. We start from **Paddington** and walk through **Little Venice**, an affluent residential district in West London which forms the meeting point of the Paddington arm of the **Grand Union Canal** and the **Regent's Canal**, and the entrance to the **Paddington Basin**. Boat watching or **‘gongoozling’** in Little Venice has always been popular….try some ‘gongoozling’ yourself as we walk along the picturesque canal that is home to quirky waterside cafes, cosy pubs and charming restaurants! A fascinating mix of historic and modern buildings makes the area a perfect backdrop for movies - Bourne 5 and Mission Impossible were filmed around here. **Regent’s Canal** offers an oasis of calm in the middle of central London’s hustle and bustle. Feel the difference – leave the streets behind and get onto the canal towpath! It’s like stepping into a hidden world!! The **grand** **mansions** along the canal provide a stunning backdrop. We'll explore **Regent’s Park with its Boating Lake and Primrose Hill**, which provides **spectacular views of the London skyline**. It is one of London’s protected viewpoints, with the trees kept low so as not to obscure the view. Once we reach Camden Town, you’ll be greeted by the quirky shops and stalls of **Camden Market**, the largest market in London and one of the capital’s top attractions – it is a veritable melting pot of eclectic experiences, food, fashion and music. The walk ends at **Camden Lock Market** \- feel free to explore the market on your own and the numerous food options\. **Cost:** Free **Start time:** 10:30am **Start location/meeting point:** Zizzi restaurant - Paddington Central. 17 Sheldon Square, W2 6EP. If coming from Paddington station, look out for signs to the Grand Union Canal exit. Please take the correct exit and give yourself plenty of time to locate the meeting point, which is outside the restaurant and next to the water at Paddington Basin. My mobile: 07951673142 **End location:** Camden Lock Market (Camden Town tube station is a few minutes by foot) **Length:** 8.5km **Ascent:** approx 55m **Time:** approx 3 hrs. It’s not possible to guarantee an exact end time as it depends on the weather, pace of the group, and our breaks along the way. **Pace & Difficulty:** a relaxed and leisurely pace - we will not be zooming along in a mad rush. The aim is to enjoy being outdoors and have a fun, friendly walk. This is an easy walk, largely flat (with a slight ascent to get to the summit of Primrose Hill) and suitable for beginners. **Transport:** The walk is in London and accessible by rail and tube. Paddington station has overground and underground links (check the status of the train/tube before travel). Camden Town tube station is on the Northern line. **What to bring:** Check the weather and bring appropriate gear. Walkways and trails can be muddy and slippery. A comfortable backpack, waterproof jacket, sufficient food, snacks, and water along with suitable socks and footwear (sturdy shoes with good grip/waterproof hiking boots) are some essentials. Remember to carry any medication you may require. If it’s sunny, don’t forget a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen! **IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER / TERMS AND CONDITIONS:** **By participating, you confirm you have read, understood and accepted the below, including the full** **[Terms and Conditions](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XZWpVX-8U98Syt2MPGZCX_wYS2jDrCTh/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101093099300290936197&rtpof=true&sd=true)** **I am NOT a qualified hike leader or first aider.** Hiking, walking, and hill walking carry the risk of personal injury and death. Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
