VALENTINES DAY £5 WALK 🌳🌲💧in VALENTINES PARK.
MEADOWS, PARKLAND, WOODLAND TRAILS, FOREST, HISTORIC MANSION and TEMPLE, plus PUB SOCIALISING with CHEAP FOOD and DRINKS.
Valentines Day Walk - we are having our annual green walk through VALENTINES PARK with its HAW HAW and GROTTO (and also WANSTEAD FOREST PARK which also has a GROTTO and TEMPLE)'
The photo is of Valentines Mansion in Valentines Park. Valentines Mansion, which is Grade ll listed, was built in the 1690's. Until 1912 the Mansion and its park were privately owned – the home of wealthy middle class families and their servants. It is now used for weddings and events.
**WALK START: Gants Hill Tube Station on the Central Line**
WALK FINISH: A large pub cloe to Leytonstone Station (Central line which will take you back to Stratford and London).
WALK ROUTE: Valentines Park, Wanstead Forest, Bush Wood, Leytonstone.
WALK DISTANCE: Approx 5 miles.
STOP OUT POINT: Nearby bus routes during most of the first half of the walk.
Enjoy London! Get out and see your City in the company of great friends! Join us for a Saturday afternoon stroll (followed by socialising in the pub). Walking is one of life's great social activities.
Social Event:
Our walks are social walks, where the emphasis is on meeting new people, enjoying nature, healthy exercise, and fresh air. Our walks are not interrupted with running commentaries or historical lectures, although occasionally features of significance may be pointed out. As such our walks will be continuous with few stops and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk. WE ALWAYS END THE WALK AT A PUB WHERE THE SOCIALISING CAN CONTINUE.
RISKS for all walks: Please dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for four miles without a break. In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths alongside water, other public paths, rights of way, bridlepaths, country lanes and other established paths and tracks through woodland, bush and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, preferably walking boots and take care as surfaces may be uneven, tree roots may protrude, there may be low overhanging branches and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists and sometimes cars (country lanes). Some tracks may be muddy and slippery. On occasion wild, domestic and farm animals may also encountered. If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself.
No large dogs or small children please.
Please arrive in good time to allow opportunity to use toilets at the start of the walk as there may not be any toilet breaks available during the walk.

• Discover the cliffs’ **Site of Special Scientific Interest**, where dinosaur fossils and crocodile remains have been found
• End in **Rye — one of England’s most enchanting medieval towns**, with cobbled streets and timbered houses
🥾 **Hike Description**
Our hike begins in **Hastings**, best known as the site of the famous 1066 battle where William the Conqueror defeated King Harold. Today, Hastings is a lively coastal town and home to **Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet**, a sight made even more distinctive by the tall black wooden fishing net huts that line the seafront.
From here we join the **Saxon Shore Way**, a historic coastal route named after the Roman forts that once guarded England’s shores. The path climbs onto dramatic sandstone cliffs that have been designated a **Site of Special Scientific Interest** for both their geological and biological importance. As we traverse the cliff tops, the sea views are spectacular, with France sometimes visible across the Channel. Along the way, we’ll learn how the cliffs have revealed dinosaur fossils and even crocodile bones from the Early Cretaceous Period, over 140 million years ago.
The route then leads us inland to **Winchelsea**, a medieval port town founded in the 13th century. Once a thriving harbour, the sea has since retreated, leaving Winchelsea perched inland but still rich in history, with ancient walls, medieval cellars and atmospheric streets to explore.
We finish in the enchanting town of **Rye**, one of England’s most beautifully preserved medieval gems. With its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and centuries-old inns, Rye provides a perfect finale to our hike. **Time is tight** even with an early start and very late return, but you’ll usually have enough time for a quick pub drink or short wander before we head back to London.
TOUGHNESS, PACE - this hike has some big and tough hills, also it's done at a good pace as timings are tight, please only sign up if you are happy with this.

Green Walk (on paths) - Elm Park, Dagenham Village, Hornchurch + (optional) Pub
I'm going to do a walk around the greenery of Elm Park & Hornchurch this week, but trying to stay on hard paths. I cannot give a cast iron guarantee that we won't find the odd little dollop of mud though.
The last time I did this walk, it clocked in at 9 miles, so I'm looking at cutting some of the padding out this time around.
We're meeting at Elm Park Station 11am, when we'll be off through Harrow Lodge Park and over to The Chase & Breton Park. Then its off to Dagenham Village, and Dagenham Parish Church facing the lovely Cross Keys Pub (both pictured above). We'll stop for our mid-walk coffee in the pub.
After our coffee break we'll go across Beam Parklands to Ingrebourne Woods and to finish at The Railway Pub by Hornchurch Station where some well deserved (optional) food and/or drink awaits those who are staying.
Those parked at the start point can get a train one stop back, or a 252 bus, or do the 0.8 mile walk. You could also park by The Railway in the morning and get a train one stop back to the meet point; then your car is there when we finish.
If you choose to park near the start point, there are side roads in Elm Park where the yellow lines don't apply on a Saturday. Diban Avenue RM12 4YH is one example, but there's a lot of parking around.
If you're coming by train, its Elm Park Station on the District Line.
Elm Park is also served by buses 165, 252, 365, 372.

If you haven't already paid for February, I ask for a nominal contribution of £2 to help cover Meetup organiser fees, or you can pay £4 to cover the rest of Feb. A few members take the option of paying £20 for 6 months. No shrapnel please.

Please dress appropriately, including sturdy shoes. Please bring any necessary medication with you. You will need to be sufficiently fit to walk several miles at a moderate pace. We may occasionally cross or walk short distances on roads; country and woodland tracks can be muddy or slippery; animals may be encountered on occasion.
INSURANCE: If either yourself or any guests you bring along require insurance for this walk, then you must arrange this yourselves.
GUESTS: If you are bringing any guests along, there is no facility on the Meetup site to record their details. Please ensure that you make them fully aware of the Risk Warning/Disclaimer and Insurance statements.

Singles Sunday Park Walk | Ages 30 to 45
BOOK YOUR TICKET 👉🏼 [HERE](https://itsadate.club/event/sunday-park-walk-24/).
Connecting with potential partners is a walk in the park when you’re doing something you love! If you’re active, enjoy a good social scene, and are into the outdoors, join us with 30 single guests for a 6.5 km walk around the Regents Park and Primrose Hill Circular. Switch scrolling for strolling during this wholesome morning, which includes a hosted walk, coffee (or tea), and a homemade chocolate brownie.
Meet James, your host, outside Regents Bar and Kitchen in Regents Park Inner Circle and just a short walk from Baker Street Station. After a stroll around Queen Mary’s Garden, we will continue through Marylebone Green and the English Gardens of Regent’s Park. We’ll then head north, crossing Regents Canal via the Monkey Gate, and make our way up to the viewpoint at Primrose Hill. Here, we’ll stop for coffee and homemade brownies—a great opportunity to socialise more widely with the group and get to know as many people as possible. If the weather isn’t kind to us, we’ll take refuge in a nearby café around Primrose Hill.
After this short interlude, we will continue clockwise on the circuit, re-joining The Board Walk in Regents Park as we pass London Zoo, and then return to Marylebone Green, where we’ll conclude at the Japanese Garden.
This is a super-relaxed morning walk and a fantastic opportunity to meet a fun bunch of people while getting your steps in along the way. After the walk, the usual post-event matching and messaging will be available on your It’s a Date dashboard. Alternatively, there are plenty of nearby trails and cosy Marylebone pubs to extend your date with newfound connections.
If you have any questions about the event or how things will work, please get in touch with James at 07517 065492 or james@itsadate.club.

• Walk through **Broadwater Forest**, home to rare plants and abundant wildlife
• Finish in the idyllic **village of Eridge**, on the Sussex–Kent border
🥾 **Hike Description**
Our hike begins in the quiet village of **Ashurst**, where we set out along shady woodland trails into the heart of Kent. This early stretch of the hike offers peaceful countryside and a feeling of remoteness, with winding paths through lush greenery and rolling fields. Along the way we pass the moated **Groombridge Place Manor**, whose 700-year-old history includes design work by Sir Christopher Wren, famed for his reconstruction of St Paul’s Cathedral after the Great Fire of London.
The highlight of the day is reaching **Harrison’s Rocks**, a striking series of sandstone outcrops dating back around 135 million years. Their dramatic shapes were sculpted by the last Ice Age, and today they are a favourite with climbers whose skillful ascents we often stop to watch. Walking beneath the crags in their woodland setting is an impressive experience and a reminder of the area’s deep geological past.
From here, the trail continues across the county border into **Sussex**, offering far-reaching views of the surrounding hills and countryside. We walk through **Broadwater Forest**, a landscape of bright woodlands and rare wildlife, before descending towards our final destination.
We finish in the idyllic village of **Eridge**, nestled on the northern edge of East Sussex beside the Kent border. With its charming setting and sense of seclusion, it makes for a fitting conclusion to a day exploring the best of two counties, from ancient manors to Ice Age rock formations.

Richmond Town & Park Walk
This casual walk chat wine/coffee group will meet outside Richmond Station by the card shop at 10:50am on Saturday 14th February. Ready for prompt departure at 11am.
We will walk through the High Street, into the shopping lanes including past Danieli chocolatiers should anyone need some chocolate in their life. We will continue along Richmond Green and see the now famous Ted Lasso pub, glide past Richmond Palace and walk along the River Thames towpath. Here we can stop for a drink at either the famous White Cross pub or my own favourite the Tide Tables cafe- we can see what people feel like on the day.
Those who want to depart at this point can head off from here.
Anyone who wants a bit more walking and or wine/ coffee can continue up Richmond Hill to see the views, into Richmond Park, see the London City skyline view, visit the lovely Pembroke Lodge for tea/ wine/ cake or lunch and then see the views from King Henry’s mound. You can also bring your own packed lunch it snack.
If anyone would like to warm up after with a drink at the Roebuck pub - brilliant.
It is a casual fun meetup. This is not a serious hike just a nice walk with company and it should you give you a a taste of everything.
We will stop and start as the group feels like. And coffee, cake or wine are available at various places along the route.
As are toilets.
The first half of the walk will only take anout 45 minutes and is a short and easy easy route back to the station.
Then after the first refreshment stop, those who want to continue on can walk for as long as we want in the park - suggest 60-90 mins ish here. It is then half an hour walk back down the hill returning to Richmond Station.
I love showing people where I live but I’m not a tour guide. This is just about meeting friends and enjoying Richmond.
All ages welcome.
If we are lucky we will see the deer. If we are super lucky we will get seats at the pub.
At this time of year we are not guaranteed the weather but I’m not afraid of a little rain. So layer up. Wear warm clothes and sw sible footwear. And we will just adapt the day as we go.
Ignore the waiting list or maximum group numbers- that is just a setting meetup imposes. But ignore. You are all welcome. Just show up or send me a message.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋
