Mount Everest Base Camp Trek
**Everest Base Camp Trek**
***Why this trip is different than all the rest?***
* **You will actually get to spend the night at base camp! Not just hike there and leave. We have almost 2 days at camp scheduled.**
* **We take a Helicopter ride down from base camp. You don’t have to spend the next 3-4 days retracing your steps.**
* **We have someone else carry all of your gear on the mountain. You just carry your day pack with an extra layer, water and snacks.**
* **We have 2 rest days scheduled for the trek to help with acclimatization.**
* **We use experienced local guides from Nepal.**
Your trek takes you to the foothills of the mightiest of mountains in the world. You will traverse through rhododendrons, pine forests, rivers, Sherpa villages, and Buddhist Monasteries. The Himalayas are best seen on this trek as we trace the main route through the Khumbu region from the Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar. Trekkers get a close view of the world's greatest mountains, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku, Tawache, and others.
The route also lies in the highest wildlife reserve in the world, the Sagarmatha National Park. It covers an area of 1,148 sq. km. of the Himalayan ecological zone. The park’s altitudes range from about 9,000 feet at Monju to the top of the world. UNESCO listed the park as a World Heritage Site in 1979 for its unique natural, cultural, and landscape characteristics.
The name Khumbu comes from its guardian deity Khumbila Tetsan Gelbu. The literal translation is "Khumbu country god." The teachings of Sherpa Buddhism talk of a spiritual understanding between all beings. This is probably why the level of hospitality and acceptance of Westerners comes naturally to the Sherpa.

Patuxent River Park Hike
Come along to explore approx. 5 miles of trails that zig, zag, and zoom through Patuxent River Park as we head to southern Prince George's County.
The Patuxent river borders one side of the park so we will have river and wetland views that occasionally put us on boardwalks. Most of our trails will be inland. We'll still enjoy the not-crowded, beautiful forest landscape and a few scenic overlooks. We will be on parts of the purple, blue, and brown trails. [Trail Map](https://www.pgparks.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/PRP-Trail-Map-2023.jpg).
We will meet at the Visitor's Center. From there, we'll take the purple loop to the blue loop which will be most of our hike. The last 1/2 mile will be on the brown loop which will give us river views. Since we're stopped at the Visitor's Center, we'll also have time to check out the Osprey displays inside, the tower overlooking the river, and the Patuxent Rural Life Museums. We'll decide as a group if we want to stop for lunch at lookout 12 or at the end of the hike by the Living History Museum.
Bring water, lunch, snacks, sturdy footwear, and $5 for the Adventuring trip fee plus about $3 if carpooling. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Largo Metro station to form carpools. If you are driving yourself, plan to meet at the Visitor's Center by 10:15am.
After our hike, we may make an optional stop for foid or a drink at Top of the Hill/Babes Boys Tavern in Upper Marlboro.

First Group Hike: Billy Goat Trail A
Join us for our very first group hike! This is a relaxed, beginner-friendly outing focused on getting outside, meeting new people, and enjoying some fresh air together. I'm limiting this one to about 10 spots so it doesn't get too crowded, so RSVP soon!
Afterwards, join us across the street at the Old Angler's Inn for brunch (optional) at noon. It's located near the trail and parking areas, so there's no need to drive to get there.
**UPDATE 4/4: We are going to do Billy Goat Trail Section A instead of Section B.** Section A is the most iconic part of the the trail which includes some rock scrambling. It's a little more difficult, but also lots of fun and I'm confident that everyone will have fun with it together.
