New Meetup: Joint meet with Internet Society - New York

Announcing a new Meetup for Imagining New York City's Future - the .nyc TLD!

What: Joint meet with Internet Society - New York

When: Monday, June 14,[masked]:00 PM

New York University
251 Mercer Street
New York, NY 10012

The New York Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC) is a supporter of Inc.'s effort to see the .nyc TLD developed in the public interest. While this is meeting is sponsored by ISOC, if asked I'll provide and answer questions about the status of the .nyc TLD.

The ISOC meeting is a first in preparation for next years important INET meeting to be held in New York City. Sally Shipman Wentworth, the recently appointed Manager of the Internet Society's North American Bureau will speak.

Here are the details from ISOC:

NYU's Warren Weaver Hall
251 Mercer Street
Rm 412
New York, NY 10012

Our June ISOC-NY members meeting this next Monday 14 is a special one! We are being visted by Sally Shipman Wentworth, the recently appointed Manager of the Internet Society's North American Bureau. This will be our first ever Chapter meeting with Sally. While new to the job Sally is a veteran in the field of Internet Policy. Before joining ISOC as Senior Manager for Public Policy in 2009 she spent 10 years working at the State Department and the White House on ICT policy issues.

The prime purpose of Sally's visit is to get the ball rolling on plans for an INET conference in NYC in 2011. INETs are regional conferences, each with a unique regional focus and a selection of topics most relevant to the communities involved. The mutual benefits of this approach are clear. Local Internet communities get exposure to Internet issues of global and regional importance, and access to world class technology and policy experts. In return, the experience of each unique INET enriches The Internet Society?s presence on the global stage.

So - what we have to do is give Sally some idea of what we here in NYC want to talk about, where we might set up and do it, and which "world class technology and policy experts" we'd like persuaded to attend.

Apart from that we have asked her to give a brief presentation about the work of the North American Bureau. This is bound to touch on the Bureau's involvement in the current initiative to form a Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group. Read more at http://www.isoc-ny.or...

Unusually for a planning meeting we are going to webcast this meeting live, with a chatroom, so that other North American Chapters, absent chapter members - plus anyone else who is interested - can participate and ask questions, make their opinions known.

If you've never attended one of our meetings - this would be a good one to break the ice!

What: ISOC-NY Member meeting
When: Mon Jun[masked]pm-9pm
Where: Room 412, Warren Weaver Hall, 251 Mercer Street NYC (SW corner of West 4th)
