Laugh at the Lot

Laugh at the Lot

Fri, May 15, 12:30 AM
From Comedy and Community Hangouts w/ Gold Tongue Collective

Alright hoes, you're welcome, and I say that with love! New mic in Oakland and A CASH PRIZE!👀 Every second Thursday: “Laugh at The Lot”, sponsored by NorthLake, run and hosted by yours truly, Tam Ellis! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹3 On the corner of 23rd and Broadway! $50 cash to the strongest set of the night + a headline spot at the next show. 🎤 6-minute sets ⏰ Start: 5:30pm \| Hard stop: 7:30pm 📝 Evens/odds posted morning-of ✍️ In-person signups (odds): 5:15pm And as a heads up: Comedy is PG-13 at this venue since it's outdoors. Not strictly clean, not too dirty. "Suggestive, not explicit" is the wave. Quick rule of thumb: if you wouldn’t say it in front of a 13 year old in public, holding a mic won't make that better! Save it for a late night, raunchier mic (ദ്ദി ˙ᗜ˙ ) And it's right next to The Melt, Mama's Boy Pizza, The Athletic Club, MIXT; perfect to grab a late lunch/early dinner and perform. Grab a bite, then grab the mic! ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

From Django to Tango (Sold Out!)

From Django to Tango (Sold Out!)

Sat, May 30, 2:00 AM
From Live Jazz (& Blues) Meetup Group
4.8

This event at a favorite Meetup venue features Grammy-winning violinist Mads Tolling, Grammy-nominated accordionist-pianist Sam Reider, and acclaimed bassist Sam Bevan in a performance of classic and original pieces that draw on rhythms ranging from Argentine tango to Django Reinhardt’s jazz manouche (aka "gypsy" jazz) and beyond. EVENT COST: The show costs about $42 (with Eventbrite service fee) for concert tickets when bought online. **I am posting this event earlier than usual, because it is assigned seating, and because I think it will sell out.** Some central tables have already filled up. SEATING: This show is **ASSIGNED** seating, mainly at four-person tables. ***NOTE that I will be sitting at Table Twelve Seat B.*** If possible, please buy your tickets for seats at the same table or adjoining tables. **TICKET LINK and MORE SHOW INFO**: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mads-tolling-sam-reider-django-to-tango-tickets-1985736138244?aff=oddtdtcreator *Click on the **Buy on Map** button on the above Eventbrite page to select your table and seat number. Note that this event is on a FRIDAY night.* WHEN/WHERE TO MEET: I recommend arriving at the Sound Room by about 7:00 p.m. so you have more time to socialize with your fellow Meetup members, and possibly order any food or drinks you want for yourself. (The show starts shortly after 7:30 p.m. and will go to at least 10:00 p.m. There are typically two sets with one intermission at this venue.) HOW TO FIND ME: I'll email my cellphone number and final details to RSVPers prior to the event date. Also, you can see my photo with my Meetup profile. (I'm WF, about 5 feet tall, now with glasses and short, salt-&-pepper hair.) LOCATION/TRANSIT: The Sound Room is at 3022 Broadway (directly across from Sprouts). At least one AC Transit bus line goes to the Sound Room from Oakland BART stations, and possibly ones in El Cerrito and Richmond. (The closest Oakland BART stations are at 19th Street and in Rockridge.) PARKING: Free parking is available on Broadway and on side streets. There are also supervised parking lots at Summit Medical Center and Kaiser Medical Center – both of which are 2 blocks away – that are available for a fee. FOOD OPTION: The Sound Room has a limited but good menu of small plates (entrees, appetizers, and desserts) and drinks that you can enjoy before or during the show. The venue emails RSVPers the current menu on the day of the show. (There is no minimum requirement for ordering food or drink, but these purchases help cover this nonprofit's operating costs.) Come Sing Show Tunes!

Come Sing Show Tunes!

Thu, May 28, 2:15 AM
From Berkeley Broadway Musicals Singing Group (In Person)
4.9

This event consists of an informal concert in which the performers are all of us! We'll take turns singing Broadway show tunes. All musical levels are welcome, whether you're an aspiring musical theater star or just someone who belts out show tunes in the shower. If you feel shy about singing a solo, it's okay to come and listen. We'll also do some group singing. Please think ahead and pick one or two solos you'd enjoy singing (this is not a firm commitment, you can change your mind if you get the jitters). Depending on how many people choose to sing, you'll either get to sing one or both of your songs. We don't always have an accompanist, so after you pick your songs, please search for suitable accompaniments on YouTube (you can search for "Songname karaoke" or "Songname accompaniment"). Once you've found accompaniments you like, please add links for your accompaniments to this spreadsheet so we can have them ready to play at the gathering: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ftn_81hdqtmYb8_QlKhpyzlu4FwKDDRZGZ3YT2x8qc8/edit?gid=0#gid=0 In the second hour of the gathering we'll schmooze and do more informal singing, and eat snacks -- (optional) feel free to bring a snack to share. For covid safety, please don't attend if you or a household member have ANY cold or flu symptoms, or if you were recently exposed to covid or flu. We will have open windows and air purifiers running.
