Come Sing Show Tunes!

This event consists of an informal concert in which the performers are all of us! We'll take turns singing Broadway show tunes. All musical levels are welcome, whether you're an aspiring musical theater star or just someone who belts out show tunes in the shower. If you feel shy about singing a solo, it's okay to come and listen. We'll also do some group singing. Please think ahead and pick one or two solos you'd enjoy singing (this is not a firm commitment, you can change your mind if you get the jitters). Depending on how many people choose to sing, you'll either get to sing one or both of your songs. We don't always have an accompanist, so after you pick your songs, please search for suitable accompaniments on YouTube (you can search for "Songname karaoke" or "Songname accompaniment"). This event at a favorite Meetup venue features Grammy-winning violinist Mads Tolling, Grammy-nominated accordionist-pianist Sam Reider, and acclaimed bassist Sam Bevan in a performance of classic and original pieces that draw on rhythms ranging from Argentine tango to Django Reinhardt’s jazz manouche (aka "gypsy" jazz) and beyond. Beginning and intermediate tango dance classes with Carrie Field

Tango teacher Carrie Field will be teaching at the Berkeley City Club for three dates only! The beginner classes will focus on basic tango steps and moves. The teacher leads us through tango exercises and invites us to explore how the body moves. The intermediate classes will offer individual and partner exercises using common tango movements and patterns to offer anatomical, mechanical and sensation insight. Carrie’s classes are influenced by her experience in Pilates, Gyrotonics and Yoga. She writes, “I hope to offer insight that enhances physical presence with yourself and your partner. These tango classes will be influenced by Tango Inform, which is a collection of exercises to prepare the body specifically for tango.” No partner necessary. Come and take part in our decades-long tradition of Irish partner dancing on Thursday nights at the most authentic, most famous, and coziest Irish pub on the West Coast.
