Ceilidh Celtic Dance Benefit for Cuba at Ashkenaz

7:00 pm doors open 7:30 pm live music and dancing The Ceilidh Dance Benefit is a lively community fundraiser featuring traditional Celtic music by The Sunroom Sessions, dancing, and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages and experience levels. Guests can enjoy live music and participate in easy-to-follow group dances led by a caller, while coming together to support a meaningful cause. It’s a fun, social evening that combines great music, dancing, and community spirit. Proceeds will support a program in Havana providing essential care to 75 elders who have no other support system to rely on and are suffering especially badly under the current blockade. This program was suggested to Colin (a member of The Sunroom Sessions) by a Cuban musician friend that he made in Havana in 2019 as a place where the money raised will directly and quickly help people in great need. It is run by Colin’s friend’s pastor at the International Christian Community in Havana, who started it 20 years ago in an effort to fill in the support system gaps for as many elders in their community as possible. There are five trained caregivers who make (at least) weekly house visits to the elders in their care, buy and bring them food, medicine, and other essentials, provide transportation, offer companionship, check in on their mental and physical well-being, and more. Funds raised will help support this work and close a gap in the program’s $21,000 minimum budget for 2026. This event consists of an informal concert in which the performers are all of us! We'll take turns singing Broadway show tunes. All musical levels are welcome, whether you're an aspiring musical theater star or just someone who belts out show tunes in the shower. If you feel shy about singing a solo, it's okay to come and listen. We'll also do some group singing. Please think ahead and pick one or two solos you'd enjoy singing (this is not a firm commitment, you can change your mind if you get the jitters). Depending on how many people choose to sing, you'll either get to sing one or both of your songs. We don't usually have an accompanist, so after you pick your song(s), you can search for a suitable accompaniment on YouTube.
