Behind the Curtain

Behind the Curtain

Fri, Aug 28, 3:00 AM
From Ballet Art

**“Behind the Curtain”** A one day journey into the world of ballet theatre! If you love theatre, ballet, art, and the stories that unfold behind the stage, you are invited to “Behind the Curtain” — a unique immersive experience into a world that usually remains invisible to the audience. Throughout one day, we will experience ballet through three different perspectives — as artists, researchers, and spectators. From the memories of a legendary ballerina to the secret language of gestures and the symbolism hidden within classical masterpieces. **Please pay attention that the event will be hosted in Russian!** You are welcome to experience all three acts, or choose just one or two — the choice is yours. **You can pay (cash or card) for your experience at the venue.** The price depends on how many acts you want to participate. 🎭 **ACT I \| 1:00 PM** **Tamara Karsavina: "Theatrical Street"** Join us for a reading and discussion of the memoirs of one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century — Tamara Karsavina, a prima ballerina of the Imperial Theatres and a star of Sergei Diaghilev’s legendary Ballets Russes. We will explore the world behind the curtain: artistic life, creativity, personal destiny, and the extraordinary era that transformed the history of world ballet. **($20)** 🎭 **ACT II \| 3:30 PM** **Author’s Lecture** Dance of Ancient Images: Archetypes of Ballet Characters Through the Lens of the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Why do characters such as Giselle, Odette, Kitri, and Aurora continue to move us centuries after their stories were first created? In this lecture, you will discover classical ballet from an entirely different perspective — as a language of ancient archetypes, symbols, and timeless human stories. This is a rare and unconventional approach to ballet, offering a perspective that is seldom explored even within professional artistic circles. **($40)** 🎭 **ACT III \| 6:00 PM** **Giselle — A Guided Ballet Viewing** Experience the famous ballet Giselle accompanied by live commentary. You will learn to read the language of ballet mime, understand the hidden dramaturgy of the performance, and notice details that usually remain invisible to the audience. After experiencing the ballet in this way, you may never watch a classical ballet quite the same way again. **($40)** **IMPORTANT INFORMATION** **1\. Choose your experience** You can attend the entire day or choose one or two acts according to your preference. Your ticket provides access only to the acts specified on your ticket, so please check your selection carefully when purchasing. **2\. Breaks between acts** For those attending the entire day, please note that there will be breaks between the acts while the space is reorganised for the next part of the event. Please allow for these intervals when planning your day. **3\. Important: ACT III — "Giselle"** The building entrance closes at 6:00 PM. Please do not be late. A volunteer will be waiting at the entrance downstairs to let guests into the building until 6:15 PM. After 6:15 PM, it will NOT be possible to enter the building. Please plan your journey in advance. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
