Art X Fashion @ The Museum at FIT

Admission to the museum is free. This exhibition will be on display from February 19 until April 19, 2026. If you cannot attend the opening, please stop in and see the show at your convenience. Call ahead for hours. This exhibition is a comprehensive exploration of the symbiotic relationship between the world of fashion and fine art. Featuring more than 140 objects, including garments, accessories, textiles, photographs, and original artworks drawn from MFIT's permanent collection, *Art X Fashion* challenges the traditional hierarchies of visual culture, presenting fashion and art each as parallel, potent expressions of social, intellectual, and creative forces. Curated by Dr. Elizabeth Way, curator of costume and accessories at MFIT, the exhibition reflects MFIT's mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of fashion's critical role in culture. The core of *Art X Fashion* lies in its profound engagement with the eternal question: "Is fashion art?" The exhibition explores the ways that fashion has always been a partner, not a follower, of fine art, highlighting typically overlooked integrations throughout history. Master Copy Painting Class: Rembrandt

We’ll create a copy of his portrait of Herman Doomer (from the Met collection), a painting that exhibits both the tight realism of his early years and moments of thick bravura in his later years. In his early career, he exemplified the best qualities of Dutch Golden Age painting, and in the latter half of his life, he developed a loose, painterly style that still influences artists today. Although Rembrandt used numerous approaches across his many paintings, this class will offer a general overview of his technique. **Week 1**: Underpainting and Texture, **Week 2**: Color Layer Part 1, **Week 3**: Color Layer Part 2, **Week 4**: Glazing, broken color, and finishing Materials List Paint: White (lead white or flake white replacement or alkyd white, if you want to use titanium you must also use Galkyd) Cadmium Yellow or Lead, Tin Yellow, Cadmium Red or Vermillion, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Raw Umber (optional), Ivory Black,, Alizarin Crimson, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Ultramarine Blue, Indian Yellow (optional) Brushes: mid-size to large stiff bristle brushes (hog or synthetic hair, filbert and/or round shaped) and mid-size to small soft brushes (I like taklon synthetic or sable, filbert and/or round shaped) Primed panel or smooth linen, 16×20 or 18×24 inches
