MAIN SAFETY RULES: WE PLAY ABSOLUTLEY ZERO CONTACT FLAG FOOTBALL! All players should make foul calls when appropriate. Players should respect and not argue over calls. An organizer will resolve any disputes. 1) NO MOVING BLOCKS: Screen blocks only. This means you must stand still in place to create an obstacle for the defense AND the opposing players must have time to adjust to your screen. 2) NO OVER THE BACK PLAYS: The space above a player is theirs alone. You may not leave your feet to come over or through the back another player. 3) NO HANDS UP PAST LINE OF SCRIMMAGE: To protect the QB from hand/arm injuries, once a rusher crosses the line of scrimmage, they may only go for the QB's flag and may not attempt to bat the football or block the pass. A penalty will be called if a defender raises his hands after crossing the line of scrimmage. Any offensive gain will be kept. 4) NO CONTACT WITH A DEFENSELESS RECEIVER: A player is defenseless until they have caught the ball and become a "runner." This penalty is called when a defensive player closes on a receiver from behind too fast and makes contact with with a receiver as the receiver turns to run up the field. BASIC RULES: We play 100% no-contact flag football with NO taunting or other aggressive behavior. We're here to have fun and make new friends. Play will start at the 5 yard line. Teams have 4 downs to reach the halfway point; then another 4 downs to reach the end zone. The offense may rush at any time outside of 5 yards from the 1st down or end zone. Men receive 6 points for a TD. To encourage the involvement of women in scoring plays, women receive 6 points plus an automatic 2 point conversion. In addition, female players are guaranteed to receive at least 3 "targets" per game. A target is when a player is the primary receiver or runner during a play. Teams can attempt a 1 or 2 point conversion after a male touch down; 1 point from 5 yards out and 2 points from 10 yards out. The offense can only run ONCE per four downs. The run can be used to avoid a rush, the blitz, or gain yards -- but it can only be used once. Players can NOT run within five yards of a first down or touch down. This reduces player contact. The defense may rush after a 4 second digital timer count or a 7/1000 verbal count. The defense may blitz 1 time every 4 downs. FREE PARKING: The best place to find free parking is on 2nd, 3rd, or 4th street near the corner of Marine Street. If you walk up Marine toward the ocean you will walk straight into our BEACH FOOTBALL FIELD. PAY PARKING: There is metered parking on Main Street just North of Marine Street, or you can park all day for $9 ($12 between Memorial day and Labor day) at the Rose Street beach parking lot. Drive down Rose toward the beach and you will drive directly into the parking lot. Walk North up the boardwalk in the direction of the Santa Monica Pier. We will be on the sand just North of the parking lot in front of lifeguard tower 29. YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE FOLLOWING BY ATTENDING OUR MEETUP. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY!!! Our flag football games are designed to be as safe as reasonably possible. However, there is a risk of injury or even death in all sports and especially football. You must understand the risks of playing and agree to the waiver below before attending. You should have health insurance and/or be able to afford medical care if needed. ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I fully understand the risks and dangers to me and others, from both expected and unexpected factors, due to participating in sports events and other activities organized by Joshua Grey and Santa Monica Co-Ed Beach Flag football. I am voluntarily participating in these events based upon my own judgment. I am not making this decision based upon the rules, equipment, facilities, and conditions provided by Joshua and Andrea Grey and Santa Monica Co-Ed Beach Flag football. **FREE Sunday flag football** at 9:00am on a grass high school football field in La Canada, 91011. We have all the jersey's, flags, and equipment so just bring your cleats and your fun competitive spirit and you are good to go! We’re a fun group that has been doing this for over 30 years and still going strong. We always welcome new players and anyone you can bring with you. Our skill level is moderate. We are not ex-NFL nor college D1 players. We're a bunch of semi-hacks that get together on Sunday to have fun playing competitive football. It does get competitive and people come to win. We do not play with a regulation size ball, it's a bit smaller. I cut the game at 16 people, and I turn people away each week. So, if you say you're going to play and no show, you're basically taking somebody else's spot who wanted to play. Your game will be assigned to whichever session is more suitable. Very short games (20min or less) should be brought to Open Play instead. *Please note new members must come to First Play as a playtester at least once before having the opportunity to run a game.* **SCHEDULE:** Game days have 3 segments. **You do not need to come for the whole day!** However, if you are testing your own game you should stay and test at least one other designer's game as well. **OPEN PLAY TESTING** 2:00pm - 3:00 pm This is unstructured play time, ideal for very short games (20min or less), or games requiring 1-2 players. If you're a designer check in with me and then grab an available table and let people know you are looking for players. If this is your first time showing your game at FPLA, please introduce yourself to either Damon or Cassandra (one or both will be near the front of the room) before your session for a quick explainer on how to get your game to the table and what to expect from playtesting.* **SCHEDULE:** Game days have 3 segments. **You do not need to come for the whole day!** However, it is good etiquette if you are testing your own game to stay and test at least one other designer's game as well. 11:00am - 1:00 pm **OPEN PLAY TESTING** This is unstructured play time, ideal for short games (45min or less), 2 player games, and games that require a quieter environment. If you're a designer, grab an available table and let people know you are looking for players. If you're a player, just sit down at a game and play! **SESSION ONE** 1:15pm - 3:15pm **SESSION TWO** 3:30pm - 5:30pm Scheduled sessions are the core of First Play! This event we have three scheduled sessions, with about 4-6 games running during each time slot. Following moderator announcements, each designer running a game will have the opportunity to do an 'elevator pitch' to players. After which, players decide which game they want to play. Two hour sessions are ideal for games that are 60-90 minutes, and have been playtested multiple times before. After play, be sure to leave time to give and receive feedback. Oh, and sometimes we give away prizes! 5:30-6:30pm **DINNER BREAK** 6:30-10pm **THE SKUNKWORKS** This is unstructured time to test your wildest ideas. Bring the game that may break in 5 minutes, the one that requires 10 people, or the one that may involve crawling on the ground. Bring objects that *could* be games, half baked ideas, and untested print and plays. Take risks, be silly, and most importantly, have fun! **SPECIAL NOTES**: No outside food is permitted but there are snacks/drinks sold at Geeky Teas. Be kind. 2. Seriously, be even more kind than you think you need to be. 3. Read the guidelines for giving and receiving feedback. 4. Respect the rules of our venues (Geeky Teas, Paper Heroes, Odyssey, etc). We will continue to be welcome as long as we continue to be good guests. 5. New members must come to First Play as a playtester at least once before having the opportunity to run a game. 6. If you have RSVP'd to run a game, show up for your time slot. If you do not show up for your time slot, you will get a strike against you. Two strikes and moderators will discuss next steps with you about if you will be allowed to continue running games. 7. Be respectful of other community members- give as much as you receive. Playtest other peoples' games, not just your own. 8. In the case of an unresolvable or continuing conflict, please let a moderator know so we can determine next steps. 9. You will receive a warning if a legitimate complaint is lodged against you. In the case of a continuous issue, a group of at least 3 moderators will discuss and determine next steps. **Werewolf Tournament / New Card Testing Night** This will be a **small Werewolf session** designed for players who already know the game and want to jump straight into deeper strategy and experimental roles and a more challenging advanced/challenging event. We’ll be running **five structured games with 16-20 people**, each capped at **45 minutes**, using **new cards and role combinations** that we usually can’t try during our larger regular events. This is a chance to test more complex setups, unusual win conditions, and advanced strategies in a focused group of experienced players. **Tournament Format** • **5 total games** • **45 minutes per game (game timer instead of round timer)** • Roles and setups change between rounds • Players stay in the same pool for the full tournament **Scoring System** Points accumulate across all games. At the end of the last game, the player with the **most total points wins the tournament**. **2nd and 3rd place prizes as well.** **Prizes** The winner will receive **special prizes**, which may include: • Copies of Werewolf / social deduction games • Power items that can help for future Werewolf nights (i.e. infinite tower of defense) • Other fun additional surprise prizes **Requirements** Because we’ll be jumping straight into complex roles and faster gameplay: • This event is **limited to a small group** • Players should already understand the core rules and flow of the game If you enjoy pushing the game further and want to experiment with new roles and strategies, this is the night for it. Werewolf setups: 45 minute game timer, I will keep all night phases moving, days only end with a kill Village team - 1 point Werewolf team - 1 point Independent team (vampires etc)- 2 points Independent solo win (lone wolf etc)- 3 points 5 rounds - whoever has most wins is 1st place in the tournament, 2nd and 3rd win prizes as well In the result of a tie in any of the top 3 places we play one final small tie breaker

Then you will LOVE this event! Here is your opportunity to have some fun playing our Live "Bingo" game. You will also get to socialize and make other friends from the comfort of your home.
