Studio City Speakers Toastmasters Club - Bimonthly Meeting

Our club, like Toastmasters clubs worldwide, is a place for people to conquer fears of public speaking, learn speaking skills, and practice for upcoming needs at work and in the community. We meet regularly on the second and fourth Mondays each month. A typical meeting has about 10-15 attendees, ranging in age and genders, with opportunities for everyone to speak each session. Visitors and guests are warmly encouraged to check us out. Pay us a visit and see why we're the friendliest Toastmasters in town! Chess and Oware Club at Beverly Hills Le Pain Quotidien

Welcome! All levels of chess players can join whether you're a beginner or a grand master. We'll be at the big table in the middle of the restaurant. Some chess sets will be provided but feel free to bring your own equipment. Please RSVP with number of guests if you plan to attend. We play chess between 1:30 - 6:00PM. Parking is FREE on Sunday in the parking structures between Santa Monica Blvd and South Santa Monica Blvd. I look forward to seeing you all at Le Pain! Since early 2026 We've also been playing **Oware** as well and now I'm making it an official part of the club. We play the international tournament version with Abapa rules. It's very easy to learn and a lot of fun to play. So, if there are any Oware players out there, you are most welcome to attend. Feel free to bring your Oware sets if you have them. Here's some info about Oware from Google: Oware is estimated to be roughly **7,000 years old**, making it widely regarded as one of the oldest continuously played board games in human history. Oware is a famous two-player abstract strategy board game in the mancala family, originating from West Africa and widely considered the national game of Ghana. The board has 12 small pits (houses) with four seeds or beans in each, and the goal is to capture 25 or more seeds to win. **A special note to new members and first time attendees:** There are may times where it looks like the only person attending the meetup is the organizer. Don't let that throw you. We have a core group of regulars who show up every week but are allergic to RSVP-ing. Getting them to RSVP is like trying to declaw a feral cat! We also have members who are not part of meetup so they can't RSVP in the first place. When we *do* get RSVPs, you can pretty much double; sometimes even triple that number to estimate attendance. So, come check us out even when it looks like there's no one attending. Hope to see you there!

Next Century Toastmasters Meetup

Want to develop your speaking skills? Join our one and a quarter hour meeting. We start with prepared speeches. Each speaker will then receive a 2-3 minute oral evaluation to help him or her understand what was done well in the speech and what areas offer opportunities for growth. The table topics section provides the opportunity to practice thinking on your feet and impromptu speaking for 1-2 minutes. Our meetings are always fun and guests are always welcome. You may bring lunch (take out is available on the "A" level from Trimana). Parking will not be validated (rates as of 09/27/16, $4.25 for each 12 minutes, maximum $34).

Dance with Marc and Jan in La Canada

We dance on Thursdays 8:00 - 10:00 PM at the Nourishing Spirits Center on the campus of St. George's Episcopal Church, 808 Foothill Blvd., in La Canada. Whether you're new to folk dancing or experienced, we hope you’ll join us for fun and beautiful dances from around the world. This may be long, but we think you will find it helpful. This event is part of an ongoing group, and you are welcome to come any week. For your first visit, please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can say hello before teaching starts. We will teach several dances appropriate for both new and experienced dancers for half an hour or so, and there will be more dances you can join in after that. You will be dancing the first evening, even if you have never danced before. The particular dances we teach each week will depend on the dance experience of our participants. We'll have a break at 9:00 for refreshments and socializing and then dance again until 10:00. (If you can't stay that late, it's perfectly fine to leave early.) Your $5 helps pay our rent. This is not a business. We dance for the joy of it. We are a very friendly group and very supportive of new participants. The teaching is extremely popular. No one is ever pressured or put on the spot. Our only goal is to have fun together. We no longer require vaccinations or masks, but we encourage good health practices, and some participants wear masks. A recording studio experience for women creatives where poetry, music, storytelling, rhythm, and community come together. This interactive session combines a masterclass, hands-on learning, collaboration, and recording opportunities inside a professional studio environment at Pirates Studios. Whether you're a poet, singer, songwriter, beatmaker, storyteller, creative entrepreneur, or simply someone who has always wanted to explore recording, this space is designed for you.
