1st Annual Venice Beach Honoring Yemaya the Ocean Mother

1st Annual Venice Beach Honoring Yemaya the Ocean Mother

Sun, May 24, 4:30 PM
From Circle Temple of the Divine Feminine

HONORING OF YEMOJA May 24 • 9:30 A.M. • Venice Beach Gathering begins at 9:30 A.M. outside Café Gratitude on Rose Avenue & 5th Street in Venice Beach. Nearby landmarks include The Window at American Beauty, Vin Anima Mundi, and StretchLab. From there, we will walk west along Rose Avenue to the shoreline, arriving at approximately 10 A.M. This is an open devotional gathering in honor of Yemojá, La Virgen de Regla, the Divine Mother, and the sacred spirit of the ocean. All are welcome, whether coming in devotion, prayer, reverence for the sea, or simply to gather in peaceful community. Participants are encouraged to bring biodegradable offerings for the water, such as: • flowers • fruits • natural herbs • or small liquid offerings/spiritual waters. A limited number of devotional offerings, such as flowers, will also be available at a modest price for those wishing to participate. This is not a formal or heavily structured ritual, but rather a communal procession and offering to the Ocean Mother. Together, we will carry her image to the shoreline, sing, pray, make offerings, and honor the waters in a simple and heartfelt way. We are also seeking volunteers, helpers, singers, drummers, flower bearers, and community members who would like to participate more actively in helping this gathering grow into an annual tradition. Bring items for our community altar at the beach. Hosted by Ricky Mars (Awo), lasirenes.etsy.com

KFC Coastal Mission- Shore Dive

KFC Coastal Mission- Shore Dive

Fri, May 29, 2:00 PM
From Kelp Forest Club - Los Angeles Based Scuba Diving Group

At the end of each month we organize a coastal mission somewhere along the Southern California shoreline. The exact dive site depends on conditions that week - visibility, swell, surge, and what the ocean feels like doing - so we will finalize the location a few days beforehand. Anywhere from Orange County up through Ventura County is fair game. If you’re interested in joining the mission, RSVP here so we can send updates once we lock in the site and meeting details. The plan is simple: meet up, gear up, and spend a good day along the coast with other divers. Sometimes that means a couple dives and calling it a morning. Other days we hang around longer, stretch out on the beach, hydrate properly, compare notes from the dive, open a favorite beverage, maybe watch the sunset or wander off on a coastal hike. Some missions are calm blue-water days. Some are classic SoCal shore adventures. Either way the recipe stays the same. Cold water. Prepared divers. Proper hydration.

Let's Restore the Arroyo Seco - Hybrid Program

Let's Restore the Arroyo Seco - Hybrid Program

Thu, May 21, 2:00 AM
From Sierra Club Pasadena Group - Hikes and More!
4.8

Pasadena has a historic opportunity to restore ecosystem health to the Arroyo Seco by bringing a forgotten stream back to life: Seco Creek, which flows through Brookside Park just below the Rose Bowl. For thousands of years this stream supported birds, fish, insects, and native plants. Now the City of Pasadena is planning to use it to recharge groundwater beneath the Brookside Park parking lot. Wouldn't it be far better to reconnect some of the stream flow to the Arroyo Seco stream and restore wetlands at the confluence? Our presenter will be Tim Brick, Executive Director of the Stewards of the Arroyo Seco and a former chair of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Over his long career in public service, Tim focused on water resource management and environmental stewardship. Program begins at 7:30; join us for socializing 7:00 - 7:30. Can't be there in person? **You can also attend on Zoom. To get the link, please register separately on the Sierra Club website \*before 12 noon on May 20\*:** https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=701Po00001fgv9qIAA . **Signup Restrictions:** If you are feeling sick or have been exposed to someone who has recently (within the past 10 days) been sick from or tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend in person. **Organizers:** William Joyce, bill@rollingtherock.com, (909) 596-6280 Erik Peterson, epetersoneditor@gmail.com, (626) 833-4818 **This program -- and many more -- are also posted on the Sierra Club website, so we always have more attendees than shown on Meetup!** https://www.sierraclub.org/angeles/outings-events-schedule-activities
