Week Day HIKE:Stunning seaside of Chichester Harbour- and a SWIM

Beach, beach, let,s go to the beach! A gorgeous sandy beach in a gorgeous area of natural outstanding beauty and one of my hikers favourites! It is Wednesday, a weekday meaning that the area and most importantely, the beach will almost be just for us! We will start the hike along the canal until we reach the marina, then along the stunning estuary which could look like paradise until we reach one of Britain's most beautiful sandy beach! West Wittering... Join me on this beautiful hike and visit both Chichester Harbour and town, a traditional English seaside town with sandy beaches, dunes and one of the most stunning nature reserves. We will visit the old town and cathedral and hike the seaside and nature reserve South of this historical place. CHICHESTER HARBOUR is a large natural harbour to the south west of the city of Chichester on the Solent. Talking about sunset, you cannot imagine the beauty of this red sky over West Wittering Sandy beach and the Solent, just mind blowing. If you have to choose a hike this year, this is the one, it has become a favourite for my hikers and is pretty flat, although quite long. It is one of four natural harbours in that area of the coastline, the others being Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour and Pagham Harbour The massive stretch of tidal flats and saltings are of outstanding ecological significance. Very large populations of wildfowl and waders use the mudflats feeding on the rich plant life and the huge populations of intertidal invertebrates. More than 7,500 Brent geese overwinter on the intertidal mud-land and adjacent farmland and around 55,000 birds reside in or visit the Harbour throughout the year. Really, those landscapes are quite unique, you will be surrounded by water and birds and the sunset is exceptional. CHICHESTER, a cathedral town in West Sussex,it is the only city in West Sussex and its county town. It was a Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement and a major market town from those times through Norman and medieval times to the present day. It is the seat of the Church of England Diocese of Chichester, with a 12th-century cathedral. Harbour Heights - Brighton to Newhaven (14 miles)

All round the North Sea "haven" is a universal word for a harbour: from the Norse *hofn* and Old English *haefen;* Germans say *hafen,* the Dutch *haven,* in Norwegian, Danish & Faroese it's *havn,* and here many harbour places are named *haven.* Leaving Brighton, there will be heights in the South Downs. Telscombe Tye is the highest point. Returning to the sea, Harbour Heights are Newhaven's white cliffs with a 1860's Palmerston fort and a nature reserve. Below is a small beach and the Hope Inn is a hospitable harbour-side place. Fish & chips in the inn. Perhaps a ship passing in the night, or at least a *Transmanche* ferry to France 🚢 TRAVEL Take the 9.15 train from London Bridge to BRIGHTON. An off peak day return ticket to BRIGHTON is £12.10 with a Network card or Groupsave. People gather in front of the ticket office to arrange Groupsave tickets. The organizer will meet people on the train WALK DETAILS & RETURN TO BRIGHTON Walk starts 10.20 AM prompt from BRIGHTON station. Walk ends at NEWHAVEN where the Hope Inn sits quaintly between the harbour entrance and the beach. Afterwards there is a very regular bus service 12 (every 10 minutes) from Newhaven Town train station to Brighton station with the £2 or £3 capped single fare. A day out to Clacton-on-Sea

Benfleet, Hadleigh Castle, Leigh & Southend

A truly wonderfully varied 9 to 10 mile Essex coastal walk ! Please arrive by 10.05am so as to buy group return train tickets or use your passes, for the 10.34am train that arrives in Benfleet at 11.16am. The walk will commence by 11.20am. Meetup fee £5 payable in cash or in advance by bank transfer. Train ticket : Return to Southend Central. Or you may decide to drive. Things to bring : packed lunch ( or have fabulous al fresco fish and chips in Peterboat pub ), water, snacks etc plus waterproof jacket and walking shoes/ trainers plus sunhat, suncream and sunglasses. We shall first walk 4/5 miles in a country park along the Thames Estuary to Leigh visiting Hadleigh Castle along the way. Then we shall walk by the beaches to Southend after stopping off for an ice cream at Rossi in Westcliffe on Sea. At Southend there is a great option for £3 to walk there and back along the longest pleasure pier in the world which measures 1.25 miles in length or you walk one way and get the fun train back. Faversham to Whitstable

A most wonderful 10 mile walk linking these two delightful coastal Kent towns and one of the group's most popular walks. Meeting by BOOTS please arrive by 9am for everyone to buy group train tickets for the 9.40am train that arrives at Faversham at 10.49am. Return train ticket : Whitstable. Or you may decide to drive. The walk shall commence by 11am. Meetup fee £8 payable in cash or £6 by Friday by bank transfer, details supplied upon request. No PayPal. Please bring packed lunch, water, snacks etc plus waterproof jacket and walking shoes / trainers. Also sunglasses, sun cream and sunhat. You should have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity and be able to walk at 2.5 miles per hour. We shall have a drink at the end of the walk at a pub right on the beach. We shall aim to take the train back at either 4.50pm or 6.28pm from Whitstable as some way well stay on due to the allure of fish and chips eaten on the beach as the sun goes down.
