Do I need any experience to join?** No. This weekend is for anyone curious about being more present, playful, and connected. Impro experience or none at all—you’re welcome. Some participants have been doing it for years, and some are just starting. **2\. What if I’m shy\, nervous\, or feel out of place?** That’s completely fine. This retreat is built to include you exactly as you are. Nothing to prove, nothing to perform. Just start where you are and let things unfold. **3\. Will I have to perform?** Not if you don't want to. It's all Open Space: you only do what feels right for you. Sometimes things will be funny, but we’re not aiming for it. **4\. Will I have to be funny?** Sometimes things will be funny, but we’re not aiming for it. **5\. What actually happens during a class?** We breathe, stretch, move, play, speak, and rest. Some games are full-body and wordless. Others are about listening, timing, and presence. If it's a retreat, there’s food, silence, laughter, and space to do nothing at all. **6\. What should I bring?** Clothes that you can move and rest in. If it's a retreat, shoes or boots for walking, swimsuit, mosquito repellent, allergy medication if needed and anything that helps you feel at ease. We’ll take care of the rest. **7\. What do people leave with?** A quieter mind. Looser body. Sharper attention. A sense of having been part of something real. **8\. How many people will be there?** Usually around 6 to 8 people for a class or a retreat. Enough to play, small enough to stay close. It can be much more in a jam, six to 40 in our experience. This is a journey into the heart of improvisation inviting you to rediscover the joy of play, the beauty of improvisation, and the transformative power of connection. Through original exercises and guided explorations, you'll build trust with your partners, engage fully with your intuitions and tap into your audience's "secret wishes" to improvise compelling scenes and stories. This workshop celebrates the courage to leap into the unknown, conjuring an environment where mistakes become gifts and collaboration sparks magic. Whether you're a performer seeking fresh inspiration or simply someone eager to explore the art of being present, "Now or Never" offers a supportive space to practice active listening, fearless vulnerability, and the art of doing rather than trying. DIY IN A DAY – DRILLS

A perfect starter for all those annoying jobs around the house that you feel you should be able to tackle…if only you knew how. We know it’s frustrating to wait for it to be done and then get charged for it and we understand it can be a bit daunting to head into a wall with a power drill. Pick up the skills to hang curtains, blinds, and simple shelves on any wall. Learn to drill into wood, brick, tiles, or hollow walls with confidence. We will show you how to judge what is behind the walls before you drill. An enjoyable ‘ hands-on’ one-day workshop that covers many of the common aspects of basic DIY. If you have just bought your home and have realized it didn’t include a landlord to fix stuff, or just don’t want to rely on someone else, this day is for you. There is plenty of time to practice on several exercises over the day. The workshop also covers hanging pictures and heavier objects like mirrors, cupboards, and flat-screen TVs. You will learn how to hang a hook, fix a baton, and then a pair of level shelf brackets. Finish off the day learning how to fit shelves into awkward alcoves – a handy skill you can use to fit work surfaces too. Learn how to select the correct drill bit, wall fixing, and screw to secure things confidently. The day will also include a chance to fill small and medium holes in wood and walls to prepare your surfaces for painting. Along the way, we show you how to remove old wall fixings and what to do with the ones you can’t. This a fun fast day with plenty of tools to try and lots of advice on which tools to have in a basic toolkit. If you are thinking of upgrading your drill, you can test all of the ones we use and feel more knowledgeable about what you want to buy. This course is especially suitable if you are not handy or if you are able, but not that confident, about tackling small but important tasks in your home. We will also suggest how to tell if a task is appropriate for DIY or GSI (Get Someone In). You will take home a set of skills that will last a lifetime. All tools and materials included. INTRO TO FURNITURE RESTORATION – 1 DAY

Get the Ra Ra back into your furniture – jazz up those car boot finds and old junk. Many of us own items that wouldn’t star on ‘Antiques Roadshow’ but are pieces that would benefit from a gentle sprucing up. In this one-day starter class, our tutor will walk you through how to tackle those forlorn but beloved pieces of less valuable furniture that need some tender loving care. You will learn how to apply a solution to a problem piece-whether it’s a white ring left by a cup or a scratch in the varnish and have hands-on practice of removing varnish and refinishing woodwork. You will also explore the world of glues and clamps to learn about tackling a wobbly chair and re-attaching loose trims and veneers. Please bring your own piece to work on. Lots of charity shops sell old boxes and shabby cabinets. You can pick up a bargain on eBay. We have easy step-free access to the centre and you can find a place to park fairly easily nearby. It may not be possible to finish your own work, but if it's a wobbly chair we can show you how to re-glue it back together and the tutor can help you identify what needs to be done. We don’t cover furniture painting on this one day course. The use of all tools and basic materials is included. Beginners welcome.

INTRO TO WOODWORK – WOOD STOOL WEEKEND

Enjoyable for everyone. One weekend workshop. 10am – 5pm. By popular demand – a content-packed two-day basic carpentry woodwork course spread over one weekend. Beginners will be given plenty of help and more experienced students may work at their own pace. Make your own pine wood stool and take it home with you to be admired by friends and family. This is a great starter workshop that introduces the skills of how to measure accurately, cut precisely, and join planks together using dowels. In addition to this, the legs- made from class broomsticks – are connected to the base using a ‘wedged through tenon’ which is a classic woodworking joint and produces a very strong and pleasing result. The tools used include handsaws, chisels, planes, and spokeshaves and you can even get a chance to try an old-fashioned ‘bit and brace’ drill if you choose. If you are contemplating our longer ‘[Carpentry for Beginners](http://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/beginners-carpentry/)’ course, this can be a great way to gain confidence. Beginners will be given plenty of help and more experienced students may work at their own pace. If your knowledge of woodwork is a feint but a fond memory of CDT or carpentry at school, you are in the right place. Our experienced tutor will guide a small group through the design and making of an elegant pine stool using traditional hand tools. The workshop focuses on jointing wood with dowels, using and caring for a plane and chisel, using spokeshaves, and drilling with an auger. Intrigued? Come and find out more. INTRO TO WOODBLOCK PRINTING

No prior experience is required. **About:** Spend a day learning to cut a wood block to create layered relief prints. Printing onto paper. This one day course is a great introduction to the craft of reduction woodcut printing onto ‘Awagami’ paper. Even if you have never cut into a piece of wood or have any artistic experience, You will be able to explore your creativity and learn wood cutting methods to create prints. You will be guided through the techniques to carve your own woodblock, creating a layered image as the surface of the block is cut away at each stage, printing each new colour as you go. A single block will be carved and printed in layers, lightest to darkest, until a final unique piece reveals itself. You will learn to use different woodcarving tools to make various cuts into your woodblock taking inspiration from iconic Japanese woodcut prints (like The Great Wave of Kanagawa), well known artists, nature, and patterns to create your own design with guidance from tutor Ollie Norris, or perhaps you may already have your own designs in mind? The woodcuts are shallow and do not require great strength to make, so the workshop is open to all abilities. All use of tools and materials supplied Bring an apron or wear old clothes in case some of the paint jumps onto you.

LINO BLOCK PRINTING

No prior experience is required. **About:** Spend a day learning to cut a lino block, ink up and print onto fabric. On this one day workshop you will gain an introduction to the lino printing technique onto fabric. You will create your own one color lino print on fabric, an artwork ready to hang on your wall or perhaps as a gift for someone. Taking inspiration from natural objects, plants and images provided and learn to free your hand and mind with the process of mark making itself. Katharine will guide you through the process of carving your own piece of natural linoleum which you will then ink up and print onto your prepared piece of fabric multiple times using a brayer roller. You will make your own creative decisions as you go with as much or little guidance as you need, while always bearing in mind mistakes can lead to positive and new outcomes!

A way of extending the life of your wardrobe pieces or much loved textile items. The beautiful art of sustainable repair. Extend the life of your clothes by fixing holes and adding character. Darning, once a common household skill, is regaining its popularity as people look to avoid fast fashion and textile waste. Join us for a day of darning and leave feeling confident and ready to tackle rips, holes, wear and tear. During the day, you will go through woven darning and swiss darning. You will use multiple hand darning methods as well as a darning loom. Learn different stitches and techniques necessary to make mends on all types of clothing, from old jeans to knitted jumpers. Experiment with patterns and colours to bring a new life to your old clothes. Bring along a piece of clothing or two to practice the new techniques on and mend throughout the day!
