Yoga for Activists
Sun, Oct 18, 8:00 AM**Yoga for activists - a space to ground and recharge, all levels, body types, and backgrounds welcome. Bring a mat and flow with us.** Join us on the third Sunday of each month for a yoga practice for activists, organisers, healers, careworkers, and anyone doing the exhausting work of trying to change things. Here's a chance to actually rest inside your body, not just push through it. This isn't yoga as a break from the movement; it's yoga as part of it, rooted in yoga philosophy's original threads of discipline, non-harm and liberation. With space for quiet reflection or exchange afterward. After practice, you’re invited to grab tea/coffee/cake + hang out, talk, connect, build friendships and more. The inspiration to connect beyond the mat comes from the beautiful Yoga Community Project created by Matti in London – if you’re also longing for community here, come be part of this. This practice is donation based, on a sliding scale from €5-€10. You may donate via Bizum, bank transfer or in cash after the practice. Due to systems of oppression, we find ourselves financially in different places in our lives. When making a donation, we encourage you to reflect on the privileges or lack of privileges you have and consider the opportunities or lack of opportunities that society, systems, policies, and structures have afforded you based on your caste, race, gender identity, class, sexual orientation, and body ability. Tue, Oct 20, 5:30 PM**Nonviolent communication (NVC) is a practice that helps to strengthen your personal and professional relationships, as well as cultivate a more compassionate connection with yourself and others. It offers clear and practical tools to help you speak and listen from the heart.** **Session 1: October 20 - Honesty: Stop being nice, start being honest** Learn the basic structure of NVC and how to apply it to situations from your own daily life. You will discover what universal human needs are and that sharing them honestly leads to more connection. After this session you know how to express yourself and your needs in a connecting way without being nice, polite or rude. **Session 2: October 27 - The art of** **Empathy: Understanding beyond judgement** Through practical exercises you learn to identify other people´s unmet needs such as belonging, safety and many others. You will see the unmet needs behind judgements, hurtful actions, or cold responses. With this skill you can understand and connect with the person on a deeper level. We will practice holding space and listening without taking blame, responsibility or trying to fix things. **Session 3: November 3 - Self empathy: Find inner peace** In this session we will focus purely on ourselves. You will dive inwards to resolve internal conflicts by empathising with your inner critic and self-judgements. Discover what these parts of you are trying to achieve or protect and find your inner strength and deepest needs. **Session 4: November 10 - NVC dialogue; break the circle** With the knowledge, insights and skills from the last 3 sessions you are ready to start practicing a NVC dialogue. In this session you’ll learn and practice shifting between honest expression and empathetic listening to prevent the dialogue from turning into a discussion. You also learn how to stay connected to yourself when things get challenging. After this final session you are ready to resolve challenging situations with NVC, start celebrating life fully and reach more authentic connections with friends, family, colleagues and loved ones. **Including 2 free practice session**: October 25, 17.30 - 19.30h & November 8, 15.00 - 17.00h You will discover it takes practice to embody NVC, therefore there are 2 practice sessions included in this course. A practice session is a community meeting for those who already have experience with Nonviolent Communication and want to continue developing their skills in a supportive and safe environment and (re)connect with other NVC participants. **About the trainer** Karel Salet studied social work and philosophy and completed his CNVC certification in 2018. He worked in the healthcare field and specialized in using NVC in outreaching care for people facing addiction. Later he offered individual and team coaching alongside being chairman of an ethics committee. NVC has always stood out to him for its clarity, depth, and its unique combination of simplicity and power. In order to limit the effects of climate change, the Paris Agreement (2015) set a target: to limit the rise in temperature to below 2 degrees by the end of the century. To achieve this, we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, in particular to 2 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year per inhabitant by 2050. Today, the average French person emits 9.5 tCO2e per year. In 28 years, we need to divide our emissions by 5 to reach this target.
