**Thrilling live classical music!** **Pasadena Community Orchestra** **Friday May 8, 8:00pm** **Pre-Concert discussion at 7:15pm** The [Pasadena Community Orchestra](https://www.pcomusic.org/) performs free concerts featuring musicians from the local area. Live orchestral music is a special experience! Join us as we listen to wonderful music, enthusiastically performed! So many talented American composers of classical music - like Florence Price - deserve to be recognized more. We have a winner! Hear the winner of our *Young Artist Competition*, Rachael Kim *-* before she becomes famous! **Program:** * Mozart - Overture to The Marriage of Figaro * Florence Price - Dances in the Canebrakes * Julius Conus - Violin Concerto with Rachael Kim, *Young Artist Competition Winner (Open Division)* * Arturo Márquez - Conga del Fuego **Meetup:** in lobby at 7:15pm to chat about music, or go into the auditorium to hear the pre-concert discussion. Storytelling games - No Stress Hydro-Gardens

Nobody knows what story they are going to tell. It's time to truly connect again in the way that only sitting in real life, with real people, telling real-life stories can. Storytelling is the capability we have used to connect with one another and create the modern world. And yet, especially on social media, we have reduced storytelling to story-selling and mostly share opinions rather than real-life experiences. Our events are simple, timed, unprepared story prompts that help everyone who listens connect to our unique and yet relatable experiences. Often, the stories told are intensely funny, sometimes emotional, but always interesting. I call them games rather than exercises because they are fun and often frivolous, but there's no competition and no one loses - except those who don't attend! 😀 **Arrive before the start.** [No Stress Hydro-Gardens](https://maps.app.goo.gl/P5tUAQkbz2Sd8Hk87) We have a lovely room at the back of this hydroponics and exotic plant store for our use. Please arrive on time so that we can start promptly at 7 pm. **Let the Games begin.** We will start with a couple of simple story rounds for the storytellers. The first is almost always 'The Story of your name' because everyone is **the** world's expert in living their life with their name. **Break!** We host these events to encourage connection and community, so this break is there to keep it light and cheerful. So stretch your legs, or stand in line 🚽! **Part Two.** Now that we all know this evening's storytellers, it is time to play a couple more story games to complete the structured part of the event. **The End!** There's a little time to chat with your new friends while we clear up and reset the room.

FORAGING WALK — WILD FOOD OUTING

Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m. WILD FOOD FORAGING AND ETHNO-BOTANICAL WALK To attend and for exact directions, register [HERE](https://www.schoolofself-reliance.com/event/ethno-botanical-walk-2/) Join us for our outing where we explore the edible, medicinal, and other useful qualities of many of the plants found in the environment with many introduced plants. Both natives and non-natives will be seen. This will be leisurely and you will get a chance to taste some of the plants. We will introduce a few basics of systematic plant identification, and ways you can take your own records. We’ll also bring up another important point: Many of the wild plants that we see — and especially the non-natives — can be easily cultivated in your own yard for ease of harvesting. Also, we’ll tell you about some of the local native plant nurseries where you can obtain native plants — such as toyon, ceonothus, oak trees, mulefat, elder, etc — and grow them in your own yards, which is an ideal situation. Wear comfortable footwear and bring water. Bring a bowl for eating. This class can be credited towards the Ethno-botany certificate. Directions sent upon registration. $65 (Seniors and students $45).
