Key-Chain Bridge Loop - With Rosslyn Metro Start Option (Rating: B)
You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, [https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf](https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf) and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike.
This is a 11.2 mile loop hike with about 300' of elevation gain. We will depart at 9:30 am (please be there by 9:15) from the East end of Gateway Park in Rosslyn, near the Gateway Park sign along Lynn St. (38.89798, -77.06770, 2 blocks North of the Rosslyn Metro Station). From there we will take the Custis/Mount Vernon trail down the zig-zag bridge across the George Washington Parkway to the Potomac Heritage Trail where the real fun begins.
For those that are driving, the parking lot for Roosevelt Island (off the right side of the westbound G.W. Parkway (38.89730,-77.06748) is big, but crowded when the weather is nice, but there is generally turnover around 8:30. Park there, and take the zig-zag bridge up to Gateway Park to meet up with the group.
Once we are all assembled, we will take the Potomac Heritage Trail westbound where we will catch 90% of our 300ft of inclines, and there are a lot of rock scrambles (and is therefore unsuitable for dogs). We will continue westbound until we reach Chain Bridge where we cross the Potomac and take a combination of the C&O Canal Towpath and the Capital Crescent Trail back eastward. These easy flat trails bring us back to the Key Bridge, which we will cross back to Rosslyn (around the 9 mile point) the metro riders may choose to bail out, but I plan to complete the hike with a 1.5 mile loop around the most politically incorrect and least visited monument in DC, with a trip around Roosevelt Island, including its boardwalk.
After Roslyn, there are not proper facilities until we reach Fletcher's Boathouse (halfway down the C&O Canal). I am not sure if the facilities on Roosevelt Island are open, but they are not really close enough to the parking area for pre-hike use.
I generally maintain a 2.5 mph pace on the flats, but do get waylaid by good photo ops (there will be plenty). There is a mix of sun and shade on the DC/MD side, and mostly shade on the VA side, but sunscreen may be in order, and water definitely will be needed, so bring plenty. We will stop for a lunch break at Fletcher' Cove (cold drinks and possibly ice cream can be purchased there), and we will also make a brief stop at the TR Island Manliness Monolith.
Dogs are NOT permitted due to rock scrambles.
Leader: Dale Johnson (540-454-5592 (off during business hours))
Meet: Gateway Park in Rosslyn, near the Gateway Park sign along Lynn St. (38.89798, -77.06770), 2 blocks North of the Rosslyn Metro Station.
Rating: B ā See NOTE below
Please NOTE, this is a DIFFICULTY RATING, not a āFunā rating or a āSceneryā Rating. These are not YELP Stars. The System assigns a point per mile and a point for every 400 feet of altitude gained. 0-7 pts = āDā; 7-10 pts = āCā; 10-13 pts = āBā; 13-19 pts = āAā; over 19 pts = āA+ā. This hike is 11.2 miles & 300 ft for a about 12 pts. If you cannot walk 12 miles around your neighborhood with only brief breaks, donāt sign up for this āBā hike because āit got good reviews," and while mostly level the rock scrambling is legit, with some hand-over-hand climbing involving railings to assist in bouldering is required.

**Host's Philosophy on this event:**
The purpose of this meetup is to create a fun and supportive environment where we can improve our skills, enjoy competitive games, and connect socially. While we do aim to play seriously and challenge ourselves, the focus is more on growth and enjoyment than simply winning at all costs. Thatās why the title doesnāt include ācompetitiveā or āsocialāāwe want a healthy mix of both. This is a space where you wonāt be judged for making mistakes, but we do expect a mindset geared toward learning and getting better over time. That said, this group isnāt intended for total beginners; a basic understanding of the game is expected so that everyone can contribute to meaningful and engaging matches. The host holds the right to remove you from the game if they believe that you are at a C level.

NOVA Horror Club Discussion: Piranha (2010) AKA Piranha 3D
**NOTE: This is NOT a screening, please watch the movie before the discussion.**
*"They're organized, methodical. The first bite draws blood. The blood draws the pack."*
Spring has sprung, and Lake Victoria has just been hit by a tidal wave of college kids ready to cut loose: a week of boats, booze, and boobs as far as the eye can see. It's the perfect setup for an unforgettable week... but not for the reasons these co-eds expect.
An underwater tremor has just cracked the lakebed open, giving way to an ancient breeding ground. Thousands of primordial, razor-toothed piranha have been unleashed, and they're just *chomping at the bit* to join the party!
Directed by Alexandre Aja, *Piranha* is an absolute splatterfest that embraces its B-movie roots with unapologetic enthusiasm. Packed with outrageous set pieces, a knowing sense of humor, and literal record-setting amounts of gore, the film transforms creature-feature carnage into pure midnight-movie spectacle ā where the body count is high, the blood flows freely, and subtlety is left on the shore.
*Piranha 3D* is streaming on Tubi.
Movie Night: Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
Following the events of the first movie, Grace MacCaullay (Samara Weaving), having survived the Le Domas Family's deadly game of hide and seek, is now pitted against the richest and powerful families in the world in another deadly game of cat and mouse, while protecting her younger sister Faith (Kathryn Newton), who is also marked for death.
I'll be seated in F7 for the 7:15 pm showing.
We'll meet over at Atlas an hour before the movie starts. About 15-20 minutes after the showtime, then we'll go in. Afterwards, we'll go back to Atlas.
Project Hail Mary @ Regal Gallery Place - 3:30pm show
Let's see Project Hail Mary, the new scifi Ryan Gosling. I heard the trailer majorly spoils the book which I'm frantically trying to finish it off before the movie in a week.
Same directors as the Jonah Hill/Channing Tatum 21/22 Jump Street movies, so it could be fun.
I'll be in seat H8. We'll get food afterwards.

š©āšš¬ PROJECT HAIL MARY (PREMIUM EXPERIENCE)
**š In a world full of uncertainties, sometimes a leap of faith is the only move left.**
**š Hey guys!** Letās diving into this curious sci-fi tale produced and directed by **Phil Lord** and **Christopher Miller**. The movie is based on the novel **[Project Hail Mary](https://www.geeksundergrace.com/books/review-project-hail-mary/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23139483815&gbraid=0AAAAAqvjQFMYnc3ud9V-P6SSY-qXebUwV&gclid=CjwKCAiAqprNBhB6EiwAMe3yhlboGns-cQO3Mv9lFvsWTJAIiuzsCE9i5o0NSll4xoYqRNMRq343BBoCDP8QAvD_BwE)** by **Andy Weir** (The Martian.) and was a hit back in 2021 blending science, suspense, and humour. **Ryan Gosling** was so drawn to the book, that he jumped on board as producer.
The film follows a man who wakes up on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there and soon realises heās on a mission to save Earth. Definitely something to chat about over drinks and bring to life in a nutshell.
**The plan**: Weāll keep things easygoing with a casual pre-social at at the Look Dine-In Cinema Bar. The movie will be on **Screen 10** \- Iāve chosen **seat** **F7**, but feel free to sit wherever youāre most comfortable. Then after the film, weāll wrap things up with a quick **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse/)** review chat for anyone who wants to stay and talk fun Sci-Fi concepts.
I've been hearing a lot positive of buzz about the film so far, either way t should be a fun watch!

The film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Lionel Boyce, Milana Vayntrub and Ken Leung.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VYsnngkS_U
BUZZ AND REVIEWS: The buzz and reviews for PROJECT HAIL MARY are off-the-charts good! The film is earning a 95% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it an āold school blockbuster crowd-pleaserā and āa new sci-fi classic!ā Itās ādeeply hopeful,ā well-acted,ā funny,ā ādramatic,ā and āexceptionally rousing throughout!ā Others call it āsomething truly magicalā and one that āweāll be talking about this one for decades to come!ā And I believe Slashfilm says it best: āIt will lift up and squeeze your heart, crack you up with laughter, and give you a sense of hope and wonder in a way that few movies have been able to inspire.ā
