London Scuba Diving Group - Monthly Mingle Session
London Scuba Diving Group - Monthly Mingle Session
We are based at the Bridge Tap at London Bridge. Come and join us for our monthly social. It is important to note that the group will have an area reserved. We will reserve a corner sofa area so should be easy to locate on the night. We will also have meetup signs as well. The staff will also be aware of our group so by all means ask on arrival. You will be able to spot us as you walk into the pub. As a result of the group having increased in size and the large number of divers attending the social evenings we have changed venue so we have more space and so that we can have an outside area during the warmer summer months. Come and join us!!! As the pub is a Stonegate pub they have a great variety of ales and all drinks. They have the fantastic ale library which has over 20+ ales and a whisky showcase. They also have a great variety of good quality wines and food as well. POSTCODE FOR GOOGLEMAPS = The Bridge Tap - 32–34 Borough High Street, London - London Bridge, SE1 1XU This venue is right in the heart of London Bridge. It is well known for a large selection of craft beers. We will be located in one of the corner sofas which has enough room for 20+ and provides the group with a much better location. This is a monthly meetup to enable all members to have an input on future meetups and enable everyone to meet new members and encourage introductions. We now have at least 20 divers at every monthly social. Why not come down and join us for a drink and meet the group. It will also be a chance to provide an outline of future trips and diving destinations and provide further information on existing scheduled diving trips if anyone has any questions. This meet up might be an opportunity to meet members who have booked on the same trip as you in advance of your departure. We look forward to seeing you all. DIRECTIONS The easiest way to get to the bar is from London Bridge Station. You will need to exit onto any Borough High Street Exit from London Bridge Underground Station. You will then need to walk further down Borough High Street for a few metres. You can see the Bridge Tap Pub marked on the map below for easy location.
Last Two Places - Nine Days in Stunning Kyrgyzstan - Maximum Nine Places
Last Two Places - Nine Days in Stunning Kyrgyzstan - Maximum Nine Places
**Kyrgyzstan Tour - Bishkek, Karkyra, Lake Issyk Kul** **2-10 June 2026** Kyrgyzstan is famous for snowy peaks, high alpine meadows, broad grasslands filled with the fragrances of plants and flowers, clear mountain rivers, and serene mirrored lakes scattered among the tall peaks. This tour to Kyrgyzstan introduces you to these wild natural spots, as well as the ancient history of the Silk Road. From a luxury yurt camp in beautiful surroundings to watching locals play horse sports or hunt with eagles and to the towns and villages with their exotic bazaars, this will be a unique, off-the-beaten-track experience. **Itinerary** **Day One - Bishkek** Arrivals in Bishkek. Transfers from airport to hotel. 14.00 Optional Bishkek City Sightseeing Tour including: A visit to the main Ala Too Square (formerly Lenin Square) and its monuments to Kurmanzhan Datka (The Queen of the South) and Manas (a 10th century legendary hero of the Kyrgyz people). Then we see the Old Square and see Bishkek’s huge Lenin statue - the only major statue of Lenin remaining in Central Asia. Here are the main governmental buildings and Parliament House, the Old Square and Parliament House. We visit colorful Osh Bazaar for shopping. The tour finishes at Victory Square which is dedicated to victory over Nazi Germany in WWII. **Day Two - Bishkek - Chon Kemin Vally** After breakfast in the hotel, we will drive one hour to see the Burana Tower near Tokmok town. This UNESCO-listed large minaret is all that remains of the ancient 9th century city of Balasagun. It is one of the oldest architectural structures in Central Asia and was used as the template for other minarets. We then visit Don Aryk Village where we will watch horseback riding games at the local hippodrome. A local family will provide us with lunch. We will stay in a guest house in the Chon Kemin Valley. Those who are interested can also learn how to set up a yurt with locals. Dinner in the guest house **Day Three - Chon Kemin Valley - Lake Issyk Kul** After breakfast in our guest house we drive to Lake Issyk Kul via the Boom gorge. Sites we will visit include petroglyphs (ancient rock carvings) and an open air museum. Lake Issyk Kul is one of the largest and deepest lakes in the world and due to its incredible transparency, it is second only to Lake Baikal. Accommodation will be a hotel in the resort area on the shore of Lake Issyk Kul. We will have free time to explore this area. **Day Four - Cholpon Ata Town - Karkyra Valley (Luxury Yurt Camp)** Breakfast in our hotel. After driving along the north shore of Issyk Kul Lake, we reach the beautiful area near the border with Kazakhstan - Karkyra. We will stay in a luxury yurt camp with en-suite facilities where we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and have time to walk along the canyon or hike up the closest hill for panoramic views. For those who ride, horses are available (extra cost). Lunch and dinner will be provided in the yurt camp. **Day Five - Karkyra Valley - Karakol Town** Breakfast at the yurt camp. On the way to Karakol Town, we will stop at the Tepke Horse Farm where Kyrgyz racing horses are bred. Horses are an extremely important part of Kyrgyz culture and life. The farm has beautiful views and gardens. They will serve us a delicious lunch here. We visit Dungan Mosque which was constructed in the shape of a pagoda and built entirely without nails. The Dungans, Chinese Muslims who fled warfare in China in the 1880s, built the colourful mosque with a pagoda instead of a minaret. Next is the Russian Orthodox Holy Trinity Church whose story goes back to 1869 when Karakol was basically a garrison town established as an outpost on the edges of the Tsarist Russian Empire and a church was needed to serve the Cossacks and other troops. Dinner will be in the village of Yrdyk where a local Dungan (Chinese Muslims who emigrated to Central Asia over 100 years ago) family will teach us how to make Dungan specialities. We will eat with the family. Accommodation in a hotel in Karakol. **Day Six - Full Day in Karakol Town** After breakfast, there is an optional early morning visit to the Karakol Animal Market (every Sunday, ends at 10am). Karakol is the gathering point for nomads in the surrounding valleys, especially for the popular animal market. There are sections for horses, cattle and sheep and you may even see the occasional donkey or even camel. Return to hotel for breakfast. Visit Slavic market and “One Village One Product” factory where they produce local felt products. Free time to walk around Karakol and see the Tsar Russia legacy and visit the local bazaar. In the evening we will have dinner with a Cossack family. They will show us their traditional costumes, taste their homemade drinks (!), show us how to bake black the bread and prepare a unique meal for us. **Day Seven - Karakol Town - Djety Oguz, Barskoon and Skazka Gorges - Kadji Say Village** Breakfast at the hotel. A stunning drive will take us through changing landscapes and we will see the famous “Broken Heart Rock” and “Seven Bulls Rocks”. Next we will visit the lovely waterfalls of the Barskoon gorge and after a beautiful panorama of Issyk Kul. In the evening we will arrive at Kadji Say Village where we will stay at a unique hotel and will have dinner there. **Day Eight - Kadji Village - Bishkek City** Breakfast at the hotel. We drive to Bokonbaevo Village where we visit a local woman’s cooperative who produce some of Kyrgyzstan’s most popular presents and souvenirs. The Kyrgyz rugs here are beautiful and not difficult to transport. Nearby we also have the opportunity to watch an eagle-hunting demonstration. We arrive in in Bishkek and check into our hotel. Free time and an optional farewell dinner in Bishkek. **Day Nine - Bishkek** Breakfast in the hotel followed by airport transfers This tour is limited to nine people and transportation will be provided in a Mercedes Sprinter. **Price - GBP £1780 per person. Silver Tuesdays Nordic Walking in Brockwell Park
Silver Tuesdays Nordic Walking in Brockwell Park
Over the last nine years, Silverfit has been able to offer exercise to everyone over 50 in Brockwell Park. Together with Silverfit, I have done my best to keep the exercise fun for everyone, no matter if you are fit or not so fit, strong or not so strong, sporty or not so sporty. And, over all, I think we have done that pretty well! We have had some glorious years, and we made many, many friends over that time. Silverfit managed to keep it going through the good times and the hard Covid years, but unfortunately, the reality of the current economic climate is hitting Silverfit hard. Many councils and charities that have supported Silverfit over the years have stopped funding, and without funding, Silverfit just simply cannot keep going. Recently, they have had to take the hard decision to cut quite a number of their activities, and unfortunately, Nordic Walking in Brockwell park is one of the sessions that needs to be stopped. Yesterday afternoon was our last session for Silverfit. But…. I aim to keep your Tuesday walk going! So many of you love our Tuesday session, and it would just be too sad to stop completely. I would like to keep the Silver Tuesday session going under my own company, Fit and Happy Outdoors. Sadly, I cannot do this for free, as I do need to make a living. But in order to keep this session available for everyone, I plan to keep our Tuesday afternoon session at a highly reduced rate compared to my normal rates. New rates for our Silver Tuesday walks: 10 sessions for £45 (my normal rate is 10 sessions for £90). For those of you who struggle financially, I am happy to reduce this rate to £30, or even offer it for free. I can of course only do this if enough of you pay the normal rate, and I trust you will only ask for a reduction if you really need it. As I said, I do this for my living, but I don’t want money to be the reason you miss out on the benefits of Nordic Walking and spending time with our lovely group of friends. If you are already a member of Fit and Happy Outdoors and you pay monthly, then the Tuesday session is included in your fee. No extra payment is necessary (unless you’d like to sponsor someone who cannot pay) How does it work? 1) Please email me at Ailien at Fitandhappyoutdoors dot com, and let me know if you agree with me sending you an invoice for the full rate, or if you need a reduced rate. 2) I will then send you an invoice with my bank details on it. 3) Once I have received your payment in my bank account, I will hand you a 10-session card at the first session I see you 4) Every time you come walking on Tuesday, I will stamp your card 5) Once you have walked 10 times, I will send you a new invoice for the next 10. Payment: I really, really, prefer bank transfers. If you really do not do bank transfers, then you can pay me in cash. No cheques please (I really try to avoid having to go to the bank, it is just too much hassle). If you or a friend only comes once in a very blue moon, then they can pay £5 in cash for the session (only banknotes please. Help a girl out, I do enough weightlifting already 😊) Are you a walk leader? You are always welcome and do not have to pay me. I am grateful for your help! Do we still need to sign up? 1) Have your own poles? No need to sign up. But, if there is a weather warning, please check in with me as I might have to cancel and if I don’t know you are planning to come, I might not be able to tell you it’s cancelled 2) Happy to use the Meetup app, then sign up for your walk here? If you sign in, I will know you are planning to come, and it will be easy for me to let you know if I do need to cancel a session. 3) Need to borrow poles from me? Please text me ON THE DAY OF THE WALK to ask me to bring a set. My number is 078 078 3456 4. Just use normal text, no Whatsapp please, as I will probably miss your message. Any questions? Feel free to reply to this email, or text me on the number above.

Amberley to Worthing – South Downs backcountry paths & Cissbury Ring
Amberley to Worthing – South Downs backcountry paths & Cissbury Ring
**WHAT TO EXPECT - HIKING INFO** Distance: **25km** (c. 15 miles) Ascent: c. **585m** Estimated Duration (approx): **7 hours walking (moderate pace 4km/hr)** Difficulty: **Energetic** **HIGHLIGHT** · Great views from Amberley Mount and Rackman Hill · Undulating paths over the downs heading south towards Worthing · Slow ascents and descents on remote paths away from South Downs Way · Visit the ancient and most historic hill fort in Sussex – The Cissbury Ring. · Optional sea swim at the end! **DESCRIPTION** *This walk is on paths less travelled over South Downs rolling hills with fantastic views along the way. There is an optional sea swim at the end for those who want to cool off after a good day’s walk.* This is a beautiful part of the south downs with fantastic views and rolling hills - and with some neolithic and bronze age history along our way. We start our walk in Amberley as we head up our first hill onto the South Downs to Rackman Hill for fantastic views looking north towards the North Downs – hopefully we will have good views on the day. We then head south over rolling hills and forlorn paths, meeting locals who know the less travelled parts of the south downs. I have chosen a route which meanders past other settlement hills and hopefully with views over to the sea. We pass Finden for a refreshment stop after 14km (no pub stops before then). We then head over to Cissbury Ring – the oldest hill fort on the South Downs Way. It boasts much history - a neolithic flint mines, bronze age burial ground, iron age hill fort, a roman mint, a tudor vantage point before it was investigated archeologically by the Victorians. Then onto Worthing for a drink and a swim! Option at this stage is to head back to London or go down to Worthing Pier and have a swim. *ps. My walks make time to enjoy the views, take in local history, and look at interesting buildings along the way.* **PROGRAMME** You can choose to **meet at London Victoria or the Hike Starting Point**. Folkestone → Deal Coastal Traverse (27k)
Folkestone → Deal Coastal Traverse (27k)
We are taking on 18 miles along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK. Think sea air, big open views, quiet chats as we walk, and that steady rhythm you only get on a long hike. It is not just about the distance - it is about the experience. The moments where the group spreads out, then comes back together. The snack breaks that somehow taste better by the sea. That feeling when your legs are tired, but your head feels clear. **The plan:** Distance: 18.5 miles Difficulty: Hard Time: 8–9 hrs Train tickets: purchase off-peak return to do Dover Priory with national rail card. Sea views + cliffs + iconic Kent coastline We will start in Deal and follow the coast towards the cliffs, moving at a steady, social pace. There will be time to pause, take it in, and enjoy it — no rush, no pressure, just a shared challenge. By the end, you’ll have walked 18 miles, met some great people, and probably feel a little different than when you started (in a good way). **Bring:** * Comfortable walking shoes / boots * Water and snacks * Weather-appropriate clothing **⚠️ Important: Refund Policy & Weather Notice** This hike runs rain or shine. No refunds are available, but spots can be transferred with 48 hours’ notice. Are you in? Spaces are limited - RSVP now!
