**Join us for a fun playdate at Quincy Park Playground in Arlington, VA—just outside Washington, DC!** This modern playground features a large climbing structure, swings, slides, and even a music area. This will be a great chance for the kids to play and burn energy while parents connect. A Poetry Workshop
A Poetry Workshop
Hey Poetry Lovers! This group is on a roll. Here’s the gist: We meet at the **Capital One Café in Chinatown** from **12pm - 2pm** every other week. For enrichment, we start by reading and reflecting on a **“published poem”**, suggested by someone in the group. No advance preparation is necessary. But feel free to check out some of the poems we’ve read [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSyE_wCLQCPHRrKmN5F9tOIeeRQUZESxjRXGVBoCF2uU8Gm0_d0uECiCBCQXEy6ksxfsBOhtRIOpW3T/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true&widget=true&headers=false%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E). Or submit suggestions for future meetings [here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexGc2Z2Kp6bZW0D3_hfJ7NUUkfNHf7TXX-43FglCeBd9EF2Q/viewform?usp=send_form). Next, we **share our work and offer feedback**. Depending on attendance, everyone gets \~10 minutes to use as they like. (No need to share, though; you’re welcome to come even if you prefer just to listen.) We maintain a **Discord server** to help share our work and communicate outside our bi-weekly meet-ups. If you haven’t used Discord before, take a moment to download it and create an account before arriving. When we meet you on Saturday, we will add you to our server, the “DC Poetry Workshop”, and can help you navigate the app if you have questions. Finally, if you plan on sharing a poem, consider how you will do so. Some options include: * Print 5-10 copies to distribute in person * Take and share screenshots in the Discord chat. * Copy the poem into a google doc, change sharing settings to “anyone with link”, and copy the google doc link into the Discord chat. Northside Social - Arlington
Northside Social - Arlington
Let’s check out Northside Social in Arlington. This seems like a popular spot, but believe it or not, I've never been. If we've got the weather on our side, we may be able to grab a table outside. It'll be a chill vibe and relaxed conversation. Always a nice break from the stress of the week. (No discussions on politics, religion or potentially controversial topics. We're here to relax and have fun. Just be respectful and we'll be alright. Pay your own way, and enjoy!)

We'll be getting food at a Latin Grill food truck near our volunteer site right after we're done. It's super local and under the radar but good. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qSPXrRAaGhJkhUhH6 They've got grilled meats, tacos, fajitas, Latin soft drinks, even fresh pressed sugar cane juice, and more. I haven't tried their Guatemalan loaded sandwich, shuco, yet but will be giving it a shot this time around.

VSDC LGBTQ+ & ALLIES Collaging, Creating, and Community (2.0)
VSDC LGBTQ+ & ALLIES Collaging, Creating, and Community (2.0)
Back by poplar demand! You are invited to join the [Veg Society of DC (VSDC)](http://vsdc.org/) and your fellow LGBTQ+ vegan and veg-curious folks (and their allies this time) at another event where we'll share in community while making collages or otherwise being creative. We'll be meeting at [Southwest Neighborhood Library](https://www.dclibrary.org/plan-visit/southwest-library) (900 Wesley Pl SW, Washington, DC.) in the Large Meeting Room on May 9 from 2:30-4:30pm. The host will bring some magazines, glue, paper, and scissors. There will also be some colored pencils and activity books available as well. Feel free to also bring your own crafting supplies if you'd like, as long as they don't make a mess (no permanent markers, paint, etc.) The host will provide a few vegan snacks as well, but please bring your own water. (The library has strict rules on what refreshments are allowed in the meeting room and they must be pre-approved, so please don't bring in additional food or drink items.) This event is indoors so it will proceed even if it's raining. **Transportation** The library is just a short walk from [Waterfront Metro Station](https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/stations/waterfront.cfm) on the Green line. There is limited parking in a lot at the library as well as street parking. **WHEN:** Saturday May 9, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. **SPECIAL NOTE:** Because this event is being hosted at a DC public library, it must be open to members of the public and the library's patrons if they care to join. Therefore this event is also open to allies of the LGBTQ+ community. The host will ensure that any drop-in participants adhere to the library's and VSDC's requirements regarding creating a safe space for participants. (See "About the Group" section below for more information.) ***About the Group*** *Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. If the event is an "& ALLIES" event, it will be clearly identified as such in the name of the event. Any person who participates in an "& ALLIES" event must be supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, their lifestyle, and their gender expression; unsupportive or combative individuals will be removed from events and banned from future VSDC LGBTQ+ events. Please note that any and all questions related to gender/LGBTQ+ issues that may arise during either LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ & ALLIES events must be posed ONLY to event host, Susan, and not be asked of any other meetup participants in order to respect their privacy and promote their personal safety.* **Update Your RSVP** Please change your RSVP if you can no longer make it. **VSDC: More Than A Meetup** We are delighted to have you as part of The Veg Society of DC Vegan Meetup group, and we look forward to seeing you at our events. Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! • What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros. 10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! • What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible. See you at The Café on Saturday!
