A Poetry Workshop
A Poetry Workshop
Hey Poetry Lovers! This group is on a roll. Here’s the gist: We meet at the **Capital One Café in Chinatown** from **12pm - 2pm** every other week. For enrichment, we start by reading and reflecting on a **“published poem”**, suggested by someone in the group. No advance preparation is necessary. But feel free to check out some of the poems we’ve read [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSyE_wCLQCPHRrKmN5F9tOIeeRQUZESxjRXGVBoCF2uU8Gm0_d0uECiCBCQXEy6ksxfsBOhtRIOpW3T/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true&widget=true&headers=false%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E). Or submit suggestions for future meetings [here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexGc2Z2Kp6bZW0D3_hfJ7NUUkfNHf7TXX-43FglCeBd9EF2Q/viewform?usp=send_form). Next, we **share our work and offer feedback**. Depending on attendance, everyone gets \~10 minutes to use as they like. (No need to share, though; you’re welcome to come even if you prefer just to listen.) We maintain a **Discord server** to help share our work and communicate outside our bi-weekly meet-ups. If you haven’t used Discord before, take a moment to download it and create an account before arriving. When we meet you on Saturday, we will add you to our server, the “DC Poetry Workshop”, and can help you navigate the app if you have questions. Finally, if you plan on sharing a poem, consider how you will do so. Some options include: * Print 5-10 copies to distribute in person * Take and share screenshots in the Discord chat. * Copy the poem into a google doc, change sharing settings to “anyone with link”, and copy the google doc link into the Discord chat. Most importantly, we’re excited to meet you! Catch you on Saturday, Diego / Ian / Cayden / Nate / Otasha / Lia / An

VSDC LGBTQ+ &ALLIES History & Hang
VSDC LGBTQ+ &ALLIES History & Hang
Please join the [Veg Society of DC (VSDC)](http://vsdc.org/) for an LGBTQ+ &ALLIES walking tour of LGBTQ+ historical spots in and around Dupont Circle. We will also plan to end the outing with some vegan pizza from [Protest Pizza](https://protestpizza.com/), if space allows, since the restaurant does not accept reservations. If necessary, the group will collectively decide on alternate dinner plans at one of the other vegan options in the area. Note that individuals will be responsible for the cost of their own dinner. The total distance walked during the event will depend on the wishes of the group as to how many of the [addresses associated with DC's LGBTQ+ history](https://rainbowhistory.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/rainbowhistory_dupont_03-1.pdf) we want to view, but at most around 3 miles. ***Note that this event is open to allies but please see "About the Group" section below for more details on requirements for participation in VSDC LGBTQ+ &ALLIES events.*** **Where** We'll be meeting at the [Dupont Circle](https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/stations/dupont-circle.cfm) South exit at 3pm, and will leave by 3:15pm. Starting from Dupont Circle, we will slowly make our way around a variety of addresses that were important to Washington, D.C.'s LGBTQ+ history while chatting. The exact itinerary for the walking tour will be decided upon by a majority of event participants. In the event of heavy rain, the walking tour portion of the event will be replaced with games and queer-centric conversation at the [Board Room DC](https://boardroomdc.com/), providing there is space to accommodate our group at that time. (Closest Dupont Circle metro exit is North.) After socializing indoors, the group will decide dinner plans together, if folks are feeling up to it. The host will post an urgent comment on this event if we are moving to indoor venue. **When** Saturday, April 25, from 3pm to 6pm **Transportation** Dupont Circle is on the red line and there is limited paid parking nearby. ***About the Group*** *Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. If the event is an "& ALLIES" event, it will be clearly identified as such in the name of the event. Any person who participates in an "& ALLIES" event must be supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, their lifestyle, and their gender expression; unsupportive or combative individuals will be removed from events and banned from future VSDC LGBTQ+ events. Please note that any and all questions related to gender/LGBTQ+ issues that may arise during either LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ & ALLIES events must be posed ONLY to event host, Susan, and not be asked of any other meetup participants in order to respect their privacy and promote their personal safety.* **Update Your RSVP** Please change your RSVP if you can no longer make it. **VSDC: More Than A Meetup** We are delighted to have you as part of The Veg Society of DC Vegan Meetup group, and we look forward to seeing you at our events. Did you know that [VSDC](https://vsdc.org/%20) is a nonprofit organization with membership benefits? Come enjoy authentic Ethiopian food at the highly-rated [Effoi restaurant](https://www.effoirestaurants.com/), or discover it for the first time! After the lunch, we can walk around and look at the craft booths at the Spring Makers' Market, which runs from 10 to 4. [https://www.downtownsilverspring.com/events/spring-makers-market/](https://www.downtownsilverspring.com/events/spring-makers-market/) The restaurant is a 12-minute walk from the Silver Spring metro station. Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! • What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros. 10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! • What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible. See you at The Café on Saturday!
