**KEY PROJECT: TRADITIONALLY STITCHED AND SEWN EDGED FOOTSTOOL**
*All of our upholstery classes are for absolute beginners. It doesn’t matter which one you choose to take first. Each technique that is offered is part of all the processes that every upholsterer has to learn.*
6-week workshop. Thursday nights. 6:30pm – 9pm.
A perfect course for a beginner. Jumpstart your knowledge of traditional upholstery skills and methods.
Over six Thursday evenings, experienced upholsterers will guide you through the wonderful world of upholstery and help you build a fabulous footstool using traditional methods. You can leave your project at the centre in between classes.
Before the advent of foam in the middle of the twentieth century, the only way to make wooden seats more comfortable was to build up layers using available materials. Our small fabric footstool (above) is built from layers of woven webbing, hessian, vegetable fibre, animal hair and calico and is sewn with specialist needles and stitches. Although this method is more labour-intensive than the modern method of using foam, it is much longer lasting and preferred in more expensive pieces of furniture. This is the method used in many traditional chair seats, so once learned, you can apply this method to your own projects.
We provide everything for the workshop, from the wood frame to the set of natural beech wood legs that are included for you to paint or stain as you wish. Choose from our selection of top fabrics, or bring your own. You will need about a metre of fabric and you will not need it until the final class. The use of all tools and materials is included. We also have a selection of specialist upholstery tools and all the materials that we use in our workshops for sale at the Goodlife Centre for you to continue your new hobby at home.
Beginners welcome.
This course is run on a Thursday evening over 6 consecutive weeks. 6:30pm – 9:00pm

"Words are inadequate to express the uniquely nurturing experience I had during your Aerial Relaxation Pod class... and the music was amazing! The feeling of being securely wrapped in a silk hammock from head to toe, suspended in the air, slowly rocking, with the crystal bowls and ambient music created a sublime and profound atmosphere. It was as if I was in a cocoon of total support, allowing peace to flow into my entire being." - Alison

Join us on a trip to the English-Welsh border – this time of year is particularly special, with carpets of bluebells and wild garlic filling the ancient woodland! 💜
We’ve created a list of FAQs to help answer your questions.

Join London Social Hiking on a trip to the heart of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty! The Wye Valley is well-known for its beautiful river landscapes, dramatic limestone gorges, native woodlands, impressive geology, historic hill forts, castles and abbeys. On this trip, we'll discover the River Wye – Britain's fifth longest river and certainly one of the most scenic. Much of the lower length of the river defines the border between England and Wales. We'll be hiking in Wales, with England on the other shore!
We'll do two short hikes, taking in the highlights of the area. On our first hike, we'll visit the famous viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock. This limestone outcrop is perched 120 metres above the River Wye and provides spectacular views of the river snaking its way through the gorge. The pleasant woodland trail will take us through nature reserves to the limestone rock towers of the Seven Sisters and the dramatic King Arthur’s Cave, which provided a refuge for mammoths, hyenas and rhinoceros in prehistoric times. We'll cross the Indiana Jones style suspension bridge and also pass the distinctive red and white house, which famously featured in the Netflix series “Sex Education” (Otis's and Jean's home).
After resting and having lunch and hot drinks, we'll take a short drive to the start of the second walk. This hike features the picturesque viewpoint known as the Eagle's Nest. The Eagle's Nest boasts unrivalled views down the Wye Valley to the rocks of Wintour's Leap, Chepstow, the Severn bridges and the estuary. The superb woodland path will lead us along the edge of an escarpment to the extraordinary Giant’s Cave and the Grotto, before finally descending to Chepstow and its beautifully preserved, 11th-century Chepstow Castle.
This trip is suitable for reasonably fit BEGINNERS – a great way to experience hiking before joining our more difficult hikes! 🤩

🥾 **Hike Description**
Our journey begins in the Georgian market town of **Farnham**, with its history spanning nearly 1,000 years. From here we follow woodland trails to **Mother Ludlam’s Cave**, once said to be the home of the White Witch of Waverley. Passing the grand **Moor Park House**, we reach the evocative ruins of **Waverley Abbey**, England’s first Cistercian monastery founded in 1128, and the nearby **Waverley Abbey House**, set beside a tranquil lake.
The trail then brings us to **Tilford village**, a picture-perfect English setting with a cricket pitch, riverside pub, and two medieval stone bridges across the **River Wey**. Continuing on, we pass an **800-year-old oak tree** of remarkable size and a nearby farm where pigs — and often piglets — can be seen in the fields.
Next we enter the **Bourne Woods**, an enchanting mix of heathland and coniferous forest. Here we actually pass through **specific filming locations** used in *Gladiator, Robin Hood, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, War Horse* and more than 20 other films. Walking these paths, you’ll stand where legendary battle scenes and cinematic moments were filmed.
We return to **Farnham** to complete the circuit, finishing a hike rich in history, folklore and cinematic scenery — a trail through time that captures the very best of Surrey’s countryside.

🥾 **Hike Description**
Our adventure begins in the historic **Roman city of Chichester**, whose roots stretch back nearly 2,000 years. From here, we set out toward **Chichester Harbour**, the largest natural estuary in South East England and a protected wildlife sanctuary. The harbour’s expansive tidal waters and saltmarshes are alive with birdlife, making it one of the UK’s richest coastal habitats.
We follow a scenic trail past the **Bosham Channel**, a picturesque stretch of water that has inspired painters, poets, and writers for centuries. Soon we reach the **Chichester Channel**, once used as a wartime shipping passage and immortalised in a painting by **J.M.W. Turner**. Here we cross by the traditional ferry, a unique highlight of the day and a chance to admire the waterway up close.
Arriving in the old village of **West Itchenor**, our route continues to the bustling **Chichester Marina**, home to more than 1,000 boats and one of the South Coast’s most vibrant harbours. From here, our path meanders past ancient villages, coastal meadows, and historic sites before concluding with a refreshing visit to a local pub — the perfect way to end this coastal journey.

Happy Hour at Green Lizard Cycling
## Details
Please join local travel enthusiasts to share travel experiences and swap tips and ideas for future travel. This is our third meeting. It's been a while and we've all been busy, so let's regroup!
Expect a non-structured, casual hang with some interesting people. I aim for this to be a welcoming environment and my only real goal is for everyone to make a new friend. You don't have to be a raging extrovert to participate. All are welcome.
About the Group:
This group is for anyone who loves swapping stories about far-off places, planning future adventures, and trading travel tips. Whether you've been around the world or you're just starting to explore, you're welcome here!
We meet at local breweries for laid-back conversations about all things travel — past trips, upcoming journeys, bucket lists, favorite hidden gems, and insider advice. It's a friendly, casual space to connect with fellow adventurers, get inspired, and maybe even find your next travel buddy.
No tickets required — just curiosity, good vibes, and a love for discovery.

Some trips are wide open.
Some are already locked in.
Weddings.
Funerals.
Cruises.
Family reunions.
You get the idea.
The mistake is thinking the opportunity is gone.
It’s not.
In this special session, JGOOT travel experts Julie and Mira break down what actually happens after a trip is already planned—and how the JGOOT skillset still applies.
Because the truth is:
With the right tools, skills, and mindset… any trip can be a JGOOT trip.
It’s time for:
**Trapped By Travel Plans: How to Turn a “Stuck” Trip Into a JGOOT Success Story.**
Julie and Mira will walk through how they think about fixed trips, where the hidden opportunities still exist, and how to make smarter moves even when everything feels set.
Inside this session, you’ll learn:
• How to approach a fully planned trip without starting over
• Where to still find value when your dates and destination are locked
• How to use points, cash, and perks after your main plans are set
• How to shift from “I’m stuck” to “I still have leverage”
This isn’t about perfect timing.
It’s not about catching the lowest price.
It’s about understanding that the JGOOT skillset doesn’t turn off once you plan.
It keeps working.
And when you know how to use it, even a “locked-in” trip can become a win
