Jap Cemetery - Last Kampong - AMK Walk
Meet: Kovan MRT Station Passenger Service Centre
When: Thursday Jan 15th, 4:30 pm\*\*
\*\*This is a Rain or Shine event. Please take a good lunch or bring along some snacks if you feel hungry along the way. Our walks are usually between 8 - 12 km long. Just so you know, the weather may be hot but as the sun sets, the weather should be cooler.
Please be punctual. You are encouraged to be slightly early to avoid disappointments. There will be 5 minutes grace for attendance taking. Please remember that we cannot wait because this would be unfair to those already present.
Did you know a Japanese Cemetery is nestled right in the middle of a housing estate in Singapore? Or in our 21st Century, Singapore has a Kampong?
Start our walk at the Kovan MRT as we head to the nearby Japanese Cemetery Park. Then, let's explore the last Kampong in Singapore! We shall end our walk at AMK for dinner.
The **Japanese Cemetery Park** ([Japanese](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_language): 日本人墓地公園; [rōmaji](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C5%8Dmaji): *Nihonjin bochi kōen*) is a Japanese cemetery and park in [Hougang](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hougang), [Singapore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore). It is the largest Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia at 29,359 square metres, consisting of 910 tombstones that contain the remains of members of the [Japanese community in Singapore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_expatriates_in_Singapore), including young Japanese prostitutes, civilians, soldiers and convicted [war criminals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes) executed in [Changi Prison](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changi_Prison). It was [gazetted](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gazette) as a memorial park by the Singapore government in 1987.[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Cemetery_Park#cite_note-Bose-1)
**Kampong Lorong Buangkok** (alternatively *Kampung Lorong Buangkok*; [Jawi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jawi_alphabet): كامڤوڠ لوروڠ بواڠكوق; [Chinese](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplified_Chinese_characters): 罗弄万国村; [pinyin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin): *Luónòng Wàn Guó Cūn*) is a village located in [Buangkok](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buangkok) in [Hougang](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hougang), [Singapore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore). Built in 1956, it is the last surviving [kampong](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Village#Southeast_Asia) located on [Singapore Island](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_Island) in the 21st century.

[WOMEN ONLY] Social Sisters SG Weekly Dinner Meetup! 🎉
We’re so excited to host our **Social Sisters SG Dinner Meetup!** 🎉 Come join us for a relaxed, casual dinner session— a perfect chance to meet new friends, share stories, and exchange cultures in a fun and friendly group setting! 🌸
Location: **Asia Square Food Garden**
Time: **7-9pm** (Feel free to come and leave earlier or later!)
Price: **$2 to RSVP. Paynow to 89897063**
📍**Note:** Social Sisters SG is a space for genuine connection and friendship — not for business promotion or MLM (multi-level marketing) activities. You’re welcome to exchange contacts, but please do so at your own discretion.
📌 We try to keep our events **small and cosy**, with slots limited to **12 participants** per event. However, with the number of RSVPs and potential no-shows, it can be hard to gauge whether someone who has RSVP’d will eventually turn up. This sometimes means that interested attendees remain on the waitlist unnecessarily.
Hence, from **15 January 2026**, we’ll be introducing a **$2 RSVP fee to ensure attendance**. This will help us plan better, potentially reduce no-shows and keep events fair for everyone 💛
Follow us[ @socialsisterssg](https://www.instagram.com/socialsisterssg/) for real-time updates on our exact location within the foodcourt or any unexpected venue changes on the day itself ✨

Friday Walk
Meet other Arlington remote workers for a walk around the block.
Just a casual stroll through the neighborhood to get some steps in and have an in person convo.
Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05.
Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half.
Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day.
This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend!
By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.
